One of my favorites in Nelson. Ask for the vegan menu and they will bring you a list of the meals they can make vegan. My favorite is the Phad Puck Satay with tofu and veggies the vegan Phad Thai is great too. The employees are very sweet people. I always enjoy my time.

Reasonably authentic Thai food - above average for Thai cuisine in New Zealand. While it might not pack a decent kick at the default setting - its definitely got some heat in it. Would recommend this if youre in town for some Thai.

We went there for lunch had a good range of food available at a good price. Service was quick and efficient the waitress was friendly and helpful and generally made sure we were happy with everything. Which we were it was a most enjoyable time.

Our first meal in Nelson but quite a disappointing one. We ordered a main course fish tomyam served with rice for $26 just for my partner, the portion is just small with few pieces of fish and carrots and mushrooms, taste was mediocre, its more of a sour and salty soup than a refreshing and tangy tomyam to our preference. Well maybe we just got tricked by our own expectations, but the staffs were great and friendly though keep checking on us.

Worst customer service ever, Young male waiter had no clue what he was doing. Very rude ,demanding and spat everywhere as he tried taking our orders. definitely not coming back again. Manager should seriously consider the young waiters behaviour.

Excellent service, and mouth watering food. Huge variety on the menu, I am vegetarian and I had no problems. Nicely spaced tables so you dont feel on top of strangers. Friendly attentive staff and generous portions. 👍👍

We ordered rice noodles with beef and thai fried rice. The rice noodle broth was really good! I enjoyed my meal. I would recommend going during lunch time. They have a lunch special price.

Possibly the best Thai food I’ve had in NZ. Staff were very nice, relaxed ambience, clean toilets. We had Thai beef salad, crispy pork penang curry, and spring rolls. All were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Couldn’t help myself saying “so goooood!” out loud many times throughout our meal.

Great food with a pleasant atmosphere. Ordered both entree and main... too much for me. Nasi goreng with seafood was fabulous main (chilli level=hot; perfect!). Friendly, efficient service.

Been a few times for nice meals. Ive not been to a ton of Thai places so I dont have a lot to compare it to, but I try a different main each time, normally a stir fry or Curry and always find them good. When I go to Chocdee its normally off the back of a craving for some exciting flavor and a good dose of veggies. Really great price wise for something you can do as going out to a sit down dinner, mains are around $20 for chicken/pork/beef, tofu, and around $25 for prawns. Meals are a good size too. They do b.y.o, Im not sure of their corkage fee.My two staple go to items are the Thai iced tea - Ive never tasted anything like it and its amazing, and the fresh spring rolls, the best spring rolls Ive ever had, theyre soft and fresh, with prawns in them and a peanut dipping sauce which is beautiful, so much more flavor than generic deep fried spring rolls. Ill put in pictures of both

Recommendable Thai restaurant

A nice Thai restaurants. They cook the food really fast, generous portion, lots of meat, the plate is nicely decorated. Their Thai hot is actually Thai medium, and unfortunately, service arent as good as their food; maybe because I wore a very-very casual clothing - other patrons were at least with smart casual clothing. Took them a long time to take my order, about 5 minutes after I was ready to place mine. Then, they asked how was my meal and whether there was anything wrong/not only about 2 spoons away from finishing my meal - whats the point? what would you do if there was anything wrong anyway? If I complaint, you would easily says: but you finish your meal anyway? Seriously, that question feels like so that you can tick the box. With the price of your meal, its certain that you also sell the ambiance & experience. So, I was happy with the food, but really-really unhappy with your service.

Really love this place, the best Thai food I have had in New Zealand so far. If you like food to taste authentically Thai instead of the more western norm of just adding red chilli to dishes this is the right place. Food is so full of flavour even when its spicy. The only place Ive been able to buy Khao Soi outside of the northern Thailand too

Wow, I had the Khao soi and my partner a Red Curry. I had definitely one of the best Thai meals. Khao soi is a special Turmeric curry from North Thailand served with egg noodles in curry. You can choose all kinds of meat or prawns, or vegetarian tofu which I had. The pinot gris, cant remember the brand, is a great wine. Staff is very friendly. Nice, clean restaurant with a play area for children.Only one minor tip for staff, dont take my partners dishes away while Im still eating...

Had the Phad Thai for lunch here and it was good value and delicious. Also tried their Mango with sticky rice dessert which was also pretty good. Food came out pretty fast and there was good ambience.

Amazing food with excellent service, had a waiter called Jedsada who efficiently served me and was well trained. Will be definitely coming back! Chokdee is my new regular, and I recommend it to anyone as this place is Nelson’s gem for Thai food.

Nelson is blessed with several Thai restaurants in close proximity to each other in the CBD. And Chokdee is one of the best. It is popular judging by the busy turnout on a Sunday night. Not surprisingly its the proper Thai cooking thats been the drawcard with traditional favourites like the green curry (best-seller), etc. topping the charts and tantalising both young and mature alike.Dishes from entrees to stir-fries and curries are richly aromatic and flavourful with kefir leaf, etc. aromas evident. Spiciness is measured on the Thai Richter-scale, so hot does mean Thai-hot and not Kiwi-hot meaning, unless you have an asbestos-tongue stay with mild- or medium-hot. This is a good thing; how often have diners had their meals dumbed-down when a cuisine has had its authenticity compromised for the sake of selling more?Service is courteous and reasonably fast. Chokdee also does a fair bit of takeout business so expect a steady stream of that trade and time your visit before or after peak hours perhaps? They are also open for lunch until 2.30 pm at very competitive prices.

Fast service so tasty.

Usually dine here before going to the theatre but last weekend the service was 🐌 as the staff were overwhelmed by the number of people who had booked reservations. Our meals all came out at different times, some arriving 5 minutes before we were due to be at the theatre and 3 people received the incorrect meal

The soggiest Pad Thai I ever had. Good service. The beef salad was just beef threw on top of a Thai salad. The most authentic thing was the Chilli powder I asked for.

Delicious meal, very well priced and excellent service. Highly recommended. The Gaeng curry (with pineapple) is the best curry Ive ever had.

Food is always good here and at their sister restaurant in Motueka. They also have loyalty cards! If you want Thai food at reasonable prices in the top of the South Chockdee is the place.

If you want a tasty dish that brings you to Thailand thats the right spot. Ive been in Phuket and Bangkok and this is the closest you can get as flavours. Prices are average. Recommended

Ordered take away. Food was very nicely packaged. Had a good curry and fried rice with prawns. Unfortunately the prawns did not taste much like prawns. Rather had ordered chicken instead. But overall quality was good. Everything was prepared fresh and quick. Got at 5% discount after drawing a coupon in their christmas lottery right at the counter.

Surprisingly great Thai food in little ol Nelson! 👍Theres a good variety of dishes on the menu, offering both Kiwi and Thai favourites. The dishes are as authentic as you can get with ingredients a long way from home, and for a travelers palette like mine, absolutely excellent. Nice mix of spicy, fragrant, fresh and pleasing. Could have done with a few more fresh herb flavours that I associate with Thai, but it was the middle of winter when I went!Very highly recommended. Dont mess about - order medium or hot if you can handle it, its worth it!

Went with a group of 6 mates. In total we ordered 6 meals 2 extra meals to share in the middle as well as 4 starters. The meals were all served within 10 minutes hot and delicious.We ate at lunch from their $12 menu and they were filling well worth $12 - highly recommend this venue for value and taste

Was thoroughly satisfied with what I ordered. I just kept eating and eating until I nearly exploded. The satay chicken and noodles, the ginger beef, the spring rolls and kebabs were amazing, but damn the chicken wings were incredible. If I won the lottery I would probably hire a butler to follow me around serving those things for the rest of my life.I should mention the restaurant wasnt exactly luxury, and for some reason they had the air conditioning set to about Neptune but the spices in the dishes certainly warmed me up I guess.4/5 amazing eats, but just above average premises.
