I rang and placed an order at a different indian shop (i thought it was this one whoops) went into this store and gave my name, they didnt have it (obsioully) but told them what i ordered and they said they had it there (someone elses order) they asked if i ordered online i said no phone order (so they must of known i hadnt ordered there?) The butter chicken was terrible, unlike any ive ever ordered from here in the past (there normally really good) i really believe it wasnt butter chicken at all, tasted more like your typical curry powder flavour and cream.. and the cheesy garlic nann i ordered and they said they had it there had no cheese whatsoever the curry was luke warm, i had to heat it up at home (a couple mins drive away) i feel like they might of had a not picked up order and tried to pass it off as mine, when they realised my mistake.. i only realised as the place i actually ordered from called and said they had my curry waiting...

Good ambience, great staff. Food was excellent and tasty. Good clean wash room. To our surprise one of the staff was from our native and could speak in our local language. Wonderful job team little india. U guys make us feel proud.

I enjoy little India very much. The owner is a gentleman and his family and staff are some of the best Ive encountered in a business. The food is delicious but I just felt the portion size was a little small for an evening meal and the chicken pieces were quite small within the buttered chicken dish itself as well. I left feeing like I could eat a couple of pieces of bread to fill myself up. Sorry.

Generally pretty decent curries, far best in town, a bit hit and miss with the meat options but most vege & chickens options are great. Though I feel they have been saving on the rice, you only get one cardboard container for two curries which is alot less than it used to be and absolutely does not cut it for two hungry people that cant eat naans. Other than that, its a fair feed.

This is the best Indian restaurant in town, its one of our regulars. The owners are lovely and friendly and weve always had great service and food. The dishes are a generous size and we usually share as we like to have a starter first and some garlic naan with our main. They dont use any artificial flavour enhancers, just real ingredients. And now also the option of cauliflower rice for anyone wanting to reduce carbs. Excellent.

The lady of the restaurant was lovely... just a tad pushy when taking our order. We were seated at a bare table... while there were other tables around. The menu book was great! Clean and nicely presented.... but pages very stiff. Loved the Spice art work! Our meals (4 people) came out one by one (30 seconds to a minute in between)… with the last one taking over 5 minutes to come out after everyone else. The butter chicken, Chicken Madras and Lamb Madras was unusual and so much different to what we have had in the past at other Restaurants, did not taste or looked like what it was. The fish dish was nice, but lacking in flavour a bit. The Naan bread was spot on. Unfortunately we will not be dinning here again... we will stick to our local. Yet since our local was shut for the day (being Labour Day) and we had wanted to try this Indian restaurant out for a while, we thought we would give it ago.

I had the keto cauli rice biryani, it was delicious!! So nice to be able to eat some delicious indian food without worrying about the carbs.The staff were so accommodating, they hadn’t made a biryani before using the cauliflower rice Can definitely recommend.

We ordered for takeaway.. food was ok but the behaviour of resturant manager was very weird. We really dont like her behaviour with us.. not satisfied at all with this restaurant

Very disappointing unpleasant experience. It was very busy day due to the recent all backs game between Argentina. As we didnt have a booking request us to be there after 7pm and its understandable. We have ask two different dishes and one of them was Lamb Biriyani. This was one of the worst Biriyani ever had in NZ. No aroma or briyani taste at all. Normally biriyani comes with at least one papad and a rytha. Non of these additional not there.As per understanding, due to an unexpected crowd they may have run short of food. What they have done, was lamb curry mixed with basmathi rice and served. If that was the case, they should be honest with out compromising the quality or their pride of little India. Next time please be count on the comments of google review. Thanks

The worse and the most expensive butter chicken I ever had. The rice was chalky and the butter chicken was tasteless. I meant to go to The Indian Cafe but accidentally called Little India. Wont make that mistake again.

I brought a group of 14 people in and they were very accommodating, they served drinks and the meals relatively quick as well. They accommodated for all dietaries while most of there food is gluten free, they had plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well. The place is reasonably priced for what you get averaging $20.00 a main and $5.00 for rice

Easily the best Indian cuisine weve had in NZ. Fresh fragrant spices and attentive, gracious owners added to the enjoyment. We asked several questions about the dishes we ordered and were treated to knowledgeable answers and enthusiasm for their offerings. Well definitely be back.

Eaten there many times over the 12 years Ive lived in nelson. Only had 1 or 2 bad meals a few years back. Nice staff and service. No1 Indian restaurant in Nelson in my opinion.

My favourite spot for Indian in NZ. Lived in London for years and can get great curries there at a fair few places but has been hard to find a place in NZ that hits the mark. This place has nailed it. Have eaten at a few little indias around NZ and they hit the spot but this place in Nelson is a huge cut above. Weve dropped in every summer holidays for 3 years now and its been spot on every time. Really good attention to detail in the food. Meat is tender and good size pieces, full of flavor and spice. My girlfriend always gets a Vegetarian curry and its always colorful and well textured, you can see it is super fresh and authentically made. Keep up the awesome work guys! And see you next year 🙂👍

We’ve been getting home deliveries from Little India for years. Love their food. Tonight I got a takeaway but picked up. The staff were amazing! They saw me approaching the restaurant in the cold and the door was opened for me. They took my order and asked if I’d like a drink while I waited. They then made sure I sat in the warmest place in the restaurant. Very kind and attentive. All delivered with a massive smile and humour. Thankyou!

Have been to many a little India restaurants in the country. This restaurant in Nelson is quite Central and a quality of food is quite good had good chat with the staff theyre all fluent in Hindi and Punjabi which was quite pleasant and they were quite open for the discussion. It will be great if this restaurant does not the display war memorabilia of its founders or the family because many of its customers may not like a reference to wars that India has typically fought with its neighbouring countries and it is a considerable sensitive topic 4 people from subcontinent and I am one of those people who do not see why are reference to war is a matter of pride when it has been fought between two independent countries and does not link it with any kind of humanitarian causes, otherwise food and service is good.

What a great surprise! To be honest, the restaurant did not look that promising on the outside, but my husband and I were in a hurry and didnt want to spend too much time looking for a restaurant and ended up here, near the big parking place. The food was very good and authentic. We can both handle very spicy food, but since everything is freshly prepared you can tell the staff how spicy it needs to be. The staff was friendly and well definitely eat here again next time we are in Nelson.

The Mango lasi are simply the best I have ever had. Excellent vindaloo. The waiter listens to you here. We wanted it nice and spicy hot and we got it exactly as requested. Good value lunch meal, nice staff and location.

Having had Indian food all my life and in some of the best restaurants, I can that say food here was a pleasant surprise. We had the tandoori platter - all the meats were well cooked, tender and nicely marinated. Main course dish was also prepared well. Ambience and service was a delight. Strongly recommended for those looking for authentic Indian preparations in NZ.

Very low grade food quality chicken briyani and other food we bought last night was waste.

We love the food here! Generous portions, well flavoured, pricing the same as other indian places. We only ever order delivery so I dont know about the ambience but our deliveries have always been prompt.

I eat Indian for the exotic mix of flavours. Something Little India seems to have forgotten. Its not a bad experience, and not wildly expensive, but the flavours are so watered down, I wonder if its cost cutting or appealing to the bland European pallette? In summary, OK, you wont hate it, but equally not worth writing home about either.

Very disappointed. We have been customers for 11years and to be completely honest they have been going downhill for the last year. Tonight we phoned in our order at 5.40pm we were told itd be ready at 6pm. Arrived late to pick up our order at 6.20 only to be told that they are very busy and itd be another 10mins. We finally got our food at 6.45pm. Our food was not worth the money or the wait. Poppadoms were burnt and far too fragrant, butter chicken was more like a mild - no heat what so ever and to top it off the rice was old maybe even off - unpleasant smell and unfortunately an unpleasant taste for my partner. Fingers crossed he doesnt get crook.Little India sort it out.We wont be returning

The food was ok but nothing special and we felt really rushed to finish each course asap and leave the table. I had barely put my fork down before my dish was whisked away and I was offered the dessert menu!

In all honesty - I frequent this place many many times, not only because of the absolutely delicious fresh food they provide but also the excellent service too!(Im eating their takeaways as I write this haha) they have some amazing chefs in there I can tell you that!!Mani, his wife and the rest of his team are pretty much the nicest people in any restaurant Ive ever met - I own a cafe myself so I understand how this industry can be busy, stressful and overwhelming -Just know that when you order food from here you are getting fresh, tasty high quality curry as well as the accompaniments that come with ie: (the Bhaji, Samosa (w/ Tamarind sauce), Tandoori etc)Yes, everybody has an opinion and yes there will always be the complainers out there (fair enough if you are genuinely dissatisfied with something) -its easy for unhappy people to hide behind their computer in order to leave a poor review if they feel the need to.But nonetheless Id highly recommend this place if you are looking for a real Indian flavour!

These guys are always reliable. All dishes are always good. They have a wide variety of authentic Indian food. I suggest ordering a few dishes so you can take some home with you. Be prepared to eat more than you originally plan to eat because you will want just a little bit more.
