Nice place to visit. But theres no more water around the palace. So its just the name and no water. The gardens nearby is well maintained. The structure is being renovated as well. You can go under the bridge to see a very beautiful scene of the repeating pattern of the pillars.

Built by a Mughal governor of Narnaul, the structure currently serves as a tourist attraction.......The Jal Mahal was built in 1596 AD by Shah Quli Khan, a member of the nobility of the Mughal empire and the governor of Narnaul. Khan was a protegee of Bairam Khan, an important official in the Mughal court and one-time regent of the empire.[1][2] He was also a successful military commander who served in the Mughal army under Akbar the Great. The campaigns of Akbar to conquer northern India made Khan wealthy, and the commander distinguished himself by wounding the Suri general Hemu at the Second Battle of Panipat. In gratitude for Khans service, Akbar granted him titles, wealth, and appointed him as the governor of Narnaul.[2]In addition to being a competent military leader, Khan was a noted architectural patron.[2] Upon being appointed governor, he began a series of construction projects in Narnaul; these projects, the first of which was a tomb (built 1574-75)[3] for himself, are described as being of a personal sort and as being different from some of his projects elsewhere in India[2]; furthermore, Khans projects were noteworthy enough to be recorded in contemporary Mughal texts.[2]15 years after completing his tomb, Khan began to construct a new palace in Narnaul; this structure became what is now the Jal Mahal.[2] Khan began by creating a square artificial lake (often described as a tank or reservoir[2]) with an island in the center; this lake was intended to form a second Kausar (the Pond of Abundance in Muslim paradise) for the palaces occupants. Khan then ordered the construction of a fortified gateway on the northern edge of the lake. Following this, a causeway was built out into the center of the reservoir, where a foundation was laid and a palace built. The construction of the Jal Mahal, its gate, and the lake took 2-3 years. The palace itself was decorated in the style of other Mughal palaces and pavilions; the structure was adorned with art and carvings, including inscriptions that celebrated Khans famous victory over Hemu.In terms of area, the compound encompass 11 acres.In the centuries after its completion, the palaces pool gradually filled with earth. The place is a memorandum of mughal architechture but unfortunately the maintanence is very poor. Moreover, the youth of India has made a shame out of it by scribbling their love on the walls. The place is spoilt to such an extent that its ethnicity is lost!

History and description -: Jal Mahal happens to be the remnant of pleasure, is a palace situated in the middle of a tank known by the name of Khan Sarovar. According to a Persian inscription over the main entrance, it was built by Nawab Shah Quil Khan, who was the Governor of Narnaul for 52 long years. The entrance to the palace is in the north through a gatehouse, with rooms for guards constructed over a bridge resting on sixteen arched-spans. The palace consists of a square central chamber with four small chambers on the four corners. Four staircases, two each on the northern and southern faces, give access to the upper storeys. The roof of the central chamber is crowned by an octagonal cupola surrounded by a hemispherical dome balanced on four smaller cupolas placed over the corner chambers . The Jal Mahal was constructed during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar in 1590-91 AD. The construction of the tank was completed in 1592-93 AD.

It is one of the best medieval architecture in Narnaul. This could be the major tourist attraction but it requires proper care and attention from the authorities.

Amazing place for quick visit and for photos. No ticket etc needed or no need to pay for visit. Water is only seen during rainy season other wise the surrounding of palace are dry. Best timing for visit is on early morning during sun rising.

Its on the outskirts of Narnaul. The place was built in 1590-91 AD. The park near to the place is well maintained. The cleanliness level is good. The monument needs more care. A part of the wall of reservoir is fallen. The water is also not filled in the reservoir all the time. It looks very beautiful when filled with water. Its the best place to visit in Narnaul.
