I took the steps on a hot sunny day and it was tiring but I enjoyed the workout. It was on a Sunday & I started around 12 PM. People: pilgrims/tourists like any other tourist spot crowds here and throw garbage/plastics (lays packets, ice cream covers, cups, etc.) leaving traces of their presence which I felt very bad. However I wish theyre more eco conscious, hope this happens with time. Otherwise, road route is more pristine is what I felt with good view points.

The giant Nandi is situated on the top of the Chamundi hills view with a fantastic view of the Mysore city.About 16 feet in height and 24 feet long, is the third largest monolithic Nandi statue in India. The creation of this colossal image is attributed to Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar (1659–1673) of the illustrious Maharajas of Mysore.

And if you are coming by vehicle then you need to take a small detour to the right side road in the intersection near Telescope view point. Straight route will lead to main temple.

Nice templeSri Nandi Temple in Mysore:Sri Nandi Temple in Mysore is the bliss to visit when you plan for the Mysore trip from your place. The temple is very near to the Chamundeshwari temple and is just half the distance to the temple there is a 5m tall idol of Nandi the sacred bull of Lord Shiva. The temple premises are very pleasant and a must worth a visit for the devotional tourists.Huge sized granite stone Nandi very well caved and nicely placed on hill. Nandi is mount of Lord Shiva and one finds and one finds Nandi at all Shiva temples. It also called Nandidurg or Nandi Betta. This is Big Mandi a top Chamundi Hills Mysore. Must visit if you are in Mysore. Nandi is not at top most location of the hill but a little down. Either you park in top and walk down through steps a little or on way up or down park your car and walk sideways to be here. We need to walk a maximum 5 minutes. There are lot of stalls on sideways selling cut fruits and sugarcane juice but try them if you are confident of your stomach. A little walk down the steps from Nandi you see a marvellous view of entire Mysore dont miss that. Its the best view one can get !!!Sri Nandi Temple Specialty:The large of the Nandi is beautifully carved from a single rock in the ancient history of the Mysuru. How to Reach Sri Nandi Temple:It is 4.5 km from the city center and is accessible from every part of the city.Every day several buses are found to go to Sri Nandi Temple.Sri Nandi Temple Timings: 9:00 AM-6:00 PMSri Nandi Temple Spending Time: 1 hrSri Nandi Temple Entry Fee: Free

This temple is located about midway along the pathway from the base of Chamundi Hills to the summit where the Shree Chamundeshwari Temple is located. The path is entirely made up of steps believed to be 1008 in number. The statue of Nandi (the bull), who folklore says is the vehicle of Lord Shiva, is one of the five largest Monolithic Nandi statues in India.Daily poojas are conducted, though for most people, it is just a stop for selfies en route to the temple at the summit. The statue was commissioned about 350 years ago, by the then ruler of Mysore.

7.3 x 4.6 metre Seated Bull Statue - Crafted from a Single Boulder -Our group of four, touring Mysuru, visited the famed Nandi Temple located in Chamundi Hill in Mysore, on 15th December 2018. After parking our vehicle, we walked up about 50 metres to reach Nandi statue. On either side of the road are little shops selling souvenirs as well as flowers and other items for offer to the revered statue. There is no charge to visit this attraction. Footwear, however need to be removed as is customary before entry into any local temple.According to our guide, Joseph, this monolithic statue, meaning that it had been crafted and sculpted from a single boulder, is over 350 years old. It sits, by the side of the road on a 4 foot (1.2m) high rectangular platform. It is quite massive, said to measure 24 feet (7.3m) in length and 15 feet (4.6m) in height. It sits in open air with no overhead covering. The statue is beautifully and artfully crafted in sitting position. Crafted with the left foreleg folded, the sculptor conveys the feeling that it is about to get up. With the ears folded back, the facial expression is one of rapt attention. Carefully and masterfully carved garlands of bells, strings, chains etc adorn its neck.I walked around the statue enjoying its beauty and marvelling the patience and mastery of the sculptor. There is a platform in front of the statue, with a bench, where I sat on looking at it for some time. Nandi is revered by Hindus as it is the vehicle of the most honoured god “Shiva”.We spent about 45 minutes here and left after recovering our footwear.

The Nandi sculpture is one of the major tourist attractions of Chamundi Hills in Mysore. The Nandi was constructed during the time of Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar (1659 - 1673), the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore. This beautiful icon of Nandi is situated half-way up to the summit of Chamundi Hills. The bull sits on a higher platform and is an active temple where the priest performs religious rituals on a daily basis. Interestingly, it is also one of the largest Nandi statues in India. 🙏🙏🙏

Nandi of MysoreThis giant image of Nandi (Bull) is located at the top of Chamundi hills in Mysore. More than 350 years old, this is one of the oldest icons in Mysore.According to Hindu mythology Nandi is considered as the vehicle (mount) of Lord Shiva, the lord of destruction. In front of every Shiva temple, on the court facing the shrine, you can see the image of a Nandi.About 16 feet in height and 24 feet long, this Nandi atop the Chamundi Hills is the third largest in India. The creation of this colossal image is attributed to Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar (1659–1673) on of the illustrious Maharajas of Mysore. It is the same maharaja who also commissioned the 1000 stepped stairway to the hilltop.Originally this was a colossal boulder. The image of the Nandi was carved out of this boulder in situ. When you visit this Nandi just look around to see similar boulders around this site. In fact right behind the Nandi image is small cave temple under an overhanging boulder dedicated to Shiva. These boulders are painted with white and ochre stripes. The Nandi is portrayed in sitting position with its left foreleg folded in an about to get up posture. While the image is in great proportions, the finer details are executed equally brilliant. You can see many sequences of bells and garlands dexterously carved over the Nandi. With his ears pointed in rapt attention, the expression on the face is something not to be missed. The whole image sits on a 4 feet or so heigh platform.
