I visited the University of Mysore in the year 2016 for the Indian science congress 103rd edition.I was a participant in the KVPY contest. The ISC was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. During the 5 day event, we visited the Regional Museum and I would say that was a once in a lifetime experience being at age of 16, I was very fascinated by watching all the historical Items and the information shared by the guides. We observed various rock samples, evolution of Humans, butterfly samples.I would like to thank the Museum authority for providing us the opportunity.

The entry to this place is free, this is the best part because now a days anywhere you go you cannot enter without a fee. The museum has different divisions one is on the seed and plants, then evolution of Earth and living beings, forest, endangered animals etc. It is a great place for kids (age group 6 and above) who start to know and learn about evolution, animals (real stuffed animals, taxidermy insects displayed) plants etc. A must visit place in Mysore, well maintained, quite and educational.

The Regional Museum of Natural History at Mysore, was set up in May 1995 by the government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The museum is located on the banks of Karanji Lake, with the Chamundi Hills in the background. The museum has exhibits of several plants, animals and geology of southern India. The various galleries reinforce conservation of nature and natural resources while showcasing ecological interrelationships among plants and animals. The museum has been made friendly to the visually challenged students, who can feel the exhibits of animals which are on display. The museum also provides extracurricular activities for schools and earnestly promotes environmental awareness. The museum has several sections.Biological Diversity has multiple sections. The 1st section lays special emphasis on the Western Ghats. It exhibits the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats. Then theres the section on tropical rainforest, of various countries that have these forests. Theres the section on the significance of wetlands  and the mangrove forests. Theres the section depicting a variety of marine habitat. Then, theres a large exhibit educating against the destruction natural diversity. The section on Life through the Ages is a walk-through tunnel, depicting evolution of life on earth. There is also a section on the different theories about how dynasaurs came to being on earth. The museum is well connected by buses, rickshaw, & cabs. Kids in high school & middle school will find it interesting. Having said that, much more needs to be done & better displayed, to make it more interesting to all learners, not just school kids.
