The term Dandadhari appears in history during the Hindu period. In the development of police rule in India, the punisher of that period can be considered as equivalent to the policemen of the present period. The local rule of ancient India was mainly based on rural panchayats. The work related to justice and governance of the village was carried out by an officer of the village name. The village elders used to assist and direct it. These villagers were not salaried officers of the state, but the people of the village would choose them from among themselves. There were officers called gop for arranging 5-10 villages above the villagers and spatial for arranging about a quarter of the district. Ancient Greek historians have written that the crime of prevention of crimes was done by these elected rural officials smoothly and under their patronage the public used to do their business industry-fearlessly.The tradition of gram panchayats and local village officials remained intact even in the Sultanate and Mughal period. In the Mughal period, the village heads did the important work of collecting Malguzari, settling disputes etc. and with the help of the construction chowkidars established peace in the village. The watchman was divided into two categories - (1) high, (2) ordinary. High-level watchmen used to get information regarding crime and criminals and helped to keep order in the village. He also had a duty to safely deliver passengers from one village to another. Ordinary grade watchmen used to protect and monitor the crop. The head of the village not only used to do crime administration in his village, but also assisted the chiefs of nearby villages in their area against crimes. On behalf of the government, the rural areas were looked after by the military and civil areas by the Kotwal. The tradition of rural governance continued even after the decline of the Mughals. It must have happened that the power of the officials appointed by the government gradually disappeared. In 1765, when the British took control of Bengal, the responsibility of the people came upon them. By 1781 Warren Hastings conducted experiments with the help of military and rural police to design a police regime and finally found them successful. Lord Cornwallis believed that for the prevention of criminals, a wage earner and a permanent police team was necessary. For this, district magistrates were ordered to divide each district into several police areas and each police area should be assigned under the supervision of an officer named Daroga. This is how the burger emerged. Later the rural chowkidars were also given the authority of the inspector. Thus, Lord Cornwallis was the originator of the outline of the present police regime. In the present day, the unit of crime prevention work in our country, whose responsibility is on the police, is the police station or police station. These duties are performed by the officers and employees appointed in the police station. Based on the Police Act of 1861, police rule is established in each state. Under this, district police rule is established under the chairmanship of Inspector General and under the supervision of Deputy Inspectors General. In every district, police work in the operation of Superintendent Police. According to the Act of 1861, the District Magistrate has been considered as the head of the crime related administration of the district and the director of the functions of the district police in that form. In the development of police rule in India, the punisher of that period can be considered as equivalent to the policemen of the present period.
