It was my first time visiting Sasson Dock, and trust me it was a whole new experience. The life of a fisherman is not easy. Climate change is impacting fishermen big time as the fishes are moving away and it is becoming more and more difficult for them to catch good quality fish.this year the harvest of Sea Parana has increased, these fishes eats all the big fishes and hence leading fishes to migrate.

If you want to buy fish in bulk then this is the place. Must reach here early by 5 A.M. or 6 A.M. One must have a slightest knowledge about selecting the fishes or can be easily fooled. And always bargain. Never buy at the amount they are offering. Try negotiating and the amount of the fish depends upon your own skills.

One of the best fish market of the town.... Visit this place even if you dont wish to buy fishes.. youll get to see fisherfolk life...women cleaning and selling fishes...Men unloading fishes from ship...some transporting and other storing in ice.

Sassoon Dock is a famous Navy Nagar area of South Mumbai. Over here ships board to various regions of coastal of Mumbai harbour. This dock was built by Albert Sassoon in 1875 when it was East India company ruled this area. Today it is one of the largest fush market of Mumbai and colaba in particular of South Mumbai. There is an Oyster island available next to dock which belongs to Navy. The area is known for two things today- fish market and various art and graffiti which is depicted in and around Sassoon Dock. Do visit and enjoy this beautiful outdoor place yourself ❤️

Good place to buy fish. Be early. Some bits of adulteration take place to give the fish gills the red colour. Do not go around major holidays, no fish comes in. Its much cheaper than buying it at the door step and mostly fresher.

The place of amazingly always available fresh fish.Opens a little before 5am, where fish is unloaded of the many Koli fishing boats that dock here.Fish are first auctioned at break neck speed in Marathi. If you are buying large quantities then this is the place to be.If you are buying smaller quantities either come as a group or wait until the Koli ladies start their stalls around 7am onwards.All fish sold here inside the dock are 100% fresh.The variety of fish is unmatched to any other dock in Mumbai.It can get crowded very fast, and you will definitely get covered in fish water, so wear something old . It can get mucky, so please wear safe footwear.Parking is not available inside the docks. Mostly cargo vehicles fill every spot.A great place to visit for a truly different Mumbai experience.

We didnt go there to buy fish, but just to look around. It was early morning and very crowded with people selling and buying fish. Fish was getting unloaded from fishing boats. People were knitting fish nets. I liked the crowd as well as the calmness when you go near the sea. Nice view. Nice graffities. And we met some nice people.

Try not to disturb the folk , they are too busy . Dress to blend , no fancy clothes. A short 30 mins or less will be enough. Not a tourist spot. Dont expect to be entertained. Went to this place after reading the reviews, heard this place being good for fresh fish and all. Arrived sasson dock at 5:45am. But to my DISAPPOINTMENT 😞...the fish were not fresh at all. Frozen and cold stored fish heaped with crushed ice. Super expensive 😫even after bargain. The quality of fish was not good. Also could not see much variety just the usual that u see at any big fish market. Probably not the season or Due to COVID-19. Cost of some fish they sell.... Pomfret Big size-4 Pcs they ask 2000(after bargain 1500), Halwa Medium size 3Pcs they ask 1500(after bargain 1100). Small fingure size white prawns Big basket approx 8kgs 🧺 they ask 3000(after bargain 2000) Surmai aprox 1.3kg ea they ask 1000 (after bargain 800) Crabs 🦀 Male medium size-400/kg Female 350/kg, Pala(Hilsa) cold store aprpx 1.3kgs for 700-800 after bargain. I reccomend what ever price they ask just reduce price by 30-40% and bargain. Donot show them your interest just walk away. Please note the above experience is based on my visit on 28th July 2021.

I went here after hearing about the art project in which artist of Mumbai have painted this 140 year old dock into something very photogenic. This place is used for docking of fishermen boats and supply of fishes in huge quantities, due to this its really smelly.The graffitis here are really artistic but most of the art pieces are inside the building which currently closed for general Public.Overall its a good place for photographers.
