Matterden Carnival Cinemas-Deepak TalkiesOne more gem from the good old days of single screens, but this ones not yet ready to hang up its boots- yet!Started in late 1920s, has managed to survive and re invent in ways that would put the biggies to shame! Thanks to the present owners who have retained its old world charm, a step into Deepak Talkies is like stepping back in time!At the same time, they have upgraded to the latest sound and projection systems, so this 500 seater ups the game by showing art house international cinema for discerning movie buffs!(sadly cud get only exterior shots due to the lockdown) but raring to step in the moment starts beaming again!
Renovation worked wellParking can be issueBut great assessebilityLot of old memories trying to keep pace with changes...best of luck to mgmnt
I had been to Deepak Theatre in Lower Parel with my colleagues to watch the King King movie years ago. We had seen the movie in the 3D as they had given us 3D glasses. We enjoyed the movie very muvh. The tickets are very affordable at this place.
It’s not operational now it’s a landmark surrounded with concrete jungle and Marathi Chawls
It is at the bifurcation on the roads, when one moves towards Prabhadevi. Post its renovation, a lot of people throng here. It has a single screen. There is ample amount of seating space under open air within its boundary. There are counters for the usual, pop corns, nachos, finger food, water and drinks. It caters 3D movies without IMAX screens. Usually it has all mass appeal movies put up on its screens.
Me and my cousin visited this place CARNIVEL for hanging out . To be honest the theatre is soo good. Even it was budget friendly . I was really happy with the ambience . So much of peace in this place . Even if you want to spend time with your friends i think they have a cafe too which has outdoor sitting. Do use vending machine if you run shortage of money .
This theatre has a legacy of 90+ years.Currently it is managed by Carnival Cinemas. It was revamped by Carnival Cinemas last year itself. It is a single screen theatre.Sound of this cinema hall is loud and clear.Screen is of 70mm and has an HD Clear view.Seatings here are very comfortable. I myself was having lounge seats.Pricing was it was pretty reasonable cinema hall.I loved the experience of watching movie here.
Matterden Carnival Cinemas (formerly known as Deepak Talkies) is a renovated single screem movie theatre. The old shabby movie theatre is much changed and renovated now. The theatre falls short in every aspect in terms of quality screen, ambience, cleanliness etc. There were even mosquitoes inside the movie hall during the movie. Good makeover but still requires to maintained to keep attracting crowd. Very good effort if you compare it with the Deepak Talkies of the yesteryear. One for the memory for the people who have seen the old too.
The theatre is very good, seat compartablity is also nice. But present it is closed due to covid.
Very poor experience. Food is ok. Service is very slow. They also charge service charge which should not be chsrged. Dont go to waste money
This is old theatre and recently got renovated. Seats and ambience is awesome. Gives a feel of visiting old palace. There is good amount of front yard space which gives a garden food festival kind of feel during interval.🥵🥵The worst part of this theater is small and center screen which should be renovated to big screen. The people who are seating on the corners will have worst experience of viewing. Same happened to me as well. Also the seating area is spread on the corners. Put some idea and improve it.
We have come to watch movie here for the first time. And Id like to be honest that I am having a horrible experience.Firstly , we were allowed entry into the theatre 20 mins after the scheduled time. And then the projector refuses to start after interval. We are still patiently waiting for it to start. We have been repeatedly being ensured that it will start in the next 5 mins. Its been more than 40 mins now that it hasnt started. And amidst all of this, none of the staff had the courtesy to even offer water to the guest.Watching a movie is a recreational activity . But now, its becoming a task to complete the movie at this hour.Ideally the movie should have been over by now.
Original Deepak talkies with single screen have been closed and a new multiplex culture theatre,Carnival Cinema have come up with good viewing and facilities.
My Dad used to take me to this theatre in my young age , then it was too old and I never liked it . But now the renovations and upgrades they have made are appreciated . There is only one screen , the food and beverages provided are also nice. Cleanliness is kept well maintained. Talking of seats , they are also great. In all , I like this theatre .
Ever since Deepak cinema branded as new Matter den. Viewing experience completely changed.Creamy Cine goers are flowing high in numbers.I had watched more than half dozen movies here. Best viewing experience is at the center of theater (screen is little dark ) not at the end, so choose your tickets carefully.
Good place. Not so crowded. You can watch new movies without being worried of soldout.
One of the best cinemas to watch movies with friends and family together... Extremely dark theatre, the screen looks extremely crips. If one suggestion I can give about this perfect cinema Room is the sitting arrangements or screening position, either the sitting mustve been done ascending or the screen should be a little higher than its actual position as it becomes non visible enough for some cinema watchers in the back. Thats what I would love. To see an improvement in the cinema hope the Deepak Talkies company works on it sooner... Will update once it is done
Nice place... Good old styled single screen theatre.Never ever go for silver or executive seats.... They are worst. They sold me a 1l water bottle for 70 rupees,!!!!! Twice then an average multiplex. (You compulsory have to buy this, they dont have other source of drinking water.)
Regretted going to the cinema the moment we entered the hall. The screen is very small (Ive never seen such a small screen in Cinema Halls). And the screen was Dim. I removed the 3d Goggles many times to get a better view.Food options available are good. The AC wasnt enough in the back seats. The seats and speakers were good.
Worst ever experience in my life... Show was half n hour late.. they kept everyone waiting outside for half n hour.. there were approx 300 people waiting outside.. no seating arrangements.. nothing... Singe screen.. the front seat comes in between. You cant see the movie properly...Please please avoid this theatre...
This theatre has been renovated amazingly. It’s a transformation of a simple single screen theatre to a chilling and hanging out place plus a single theatre with amazingly upgraded interior and seating. I love the cafe specially the pizzas and kulhad tea. You may enter the cafe without the ticket. The only issue here is a bit of parking which is there but due to one way it’s become hassle and moreover because traffic it adds to the pain. Rest all good.
Didnt know this existed until I did.Great place to catch a quick movie.Centrally located. Helpful staff and revamped interiors. Movie lovers can bank on a comfortable experience here.Food is alright. Nothing exceptional.Parking available.
A pleasant and different experience. Old-world charm of a single screen cinema hall carefully renovated to provide all modern, neat functionalities and yet retain the character of the place. Comfortable seats, good leg-space and bright, clean blankets and cushions too in the platinum class. Inexpensive snack counters with tasty offerings and pleasant service staff. A welcome and rare change from the multiplexes.
A nice theatre to watch movie within your budget. The theater is renovated and the place is good now. There is a open cafe as well. The premises is good. Only one issue is that the height between seats of two rows is a little less. So opt for seats towards the screen for better viewing experience
It is an amazing experience this theater. They have a nice cafeteria where if you have arrived early for a movie, you can sit have some good stuff. The theater also is a good experience. The seats are extremely comfortable and the hall is very spacious. It is a single screen theater and hence limited options to go and enjoy. Still one of the best theaters around. :) Good experience overall.
It’s a decent theatre with reasonable ticket price. The crowd who attend mostly belong to upper class. The seats are comfortable and the sound quality is good. The screen is decent enough. You get different food items inside the theatre which are again affordable. The washrooms are clean. Most importantly you get free car/bike parking which is made available by Lodha, the parking is at walking distance from the theatre. The place is quite near to Lower Parel Station. Also you can find good eateries outside the restaurant. You can surely visit this place and give it a go!!!
Biggest drawback here is No Parking facility.Otherwise its fine. Tickets are fairly priced. Location is good.
Very very crowded. Entry and the exit points are the same. The screen is small.. better you dont choose the balcony seats. The seats are very comfortable and leg space is nice. Tickets are reasonable. The theatre has NO PARKING.
Theyve done it up quick well. The seats are comfortable with very good leg room. This place has decent food options as well.
Seating arrange should be improve. if you seating after first till last you you will see only 75% part of screen. remaining 25% head of others
The movie experience is very much great. Four stars for the reason that the screen appears to be much small and also the inclination of the platform for audience is also very much low. But the speaker system is very much great!!!
Beautiful experience. This theater has mesmerizing outdoor space. And showcases international films every Sunday.
A place where you can watch a movie with your family and friends at a affordable price and they are really good at service and this single screen cinema is way good in this area! So go and watch your favourite movie. :)
Best cinema hall in that area, bathrooms and all facilities were very clean and hygienic, it was great to be there at such a wonderful place
Deepak talkies has now made its place tremendous. Theatre is very good, seats are comfortable and clean. Sound system is improved a lot. Now its better than PVR cinemas. Its having a huge space or gallery between theatre and main entrance which makes it a great place to chill with friends during intervals or waiting time. And most importantly the tickets are very cheap. Dont miss it ever.
They have completely refurbished the movie hall. The screen is slightly small but the ambience is terrific and so is the sound. For the money it had the best value in south Bombay. The best seats to have would be row M and K and not the back ones as these offer the best view. The snacks counters do not have enormous options and is very crowded for full shows.
Seats positions are not good. If you are seating behind you will not get a full view of screen. Better to choose first row after entrance. Sound Quality is not bad. Food options are nice but costly. Place for eating is beautiful. There is no parking of Theatre you need to park at public parking near The Park
Must go! Very well done cinema. Great place to lounge before the movie too. Still has some of the old world charm. The sound and video are also great. Overall it was a great experience, I highly recommend watching a film here, I surely will be watching a lot more here.
One of the best place to watch your favourite classic old movie that you would never watch in theatres. They play only best movies and tickets are cheaper than most theatres. The outside campus is simple short and sweet but vibrant, full of artists, musicians, movie lovers (most are the real ones). I like this place and the vibes I get there. I Watched the Danish girl, 8 and 1/2, mullholand drive and, many movies in Deepak talkies.
Its a amazing, I never ever experienced going in such theatre at cheap. You can get the tickets starts from 118 to 250 last.Even I saw Avengers Infinity War in 3D at 118 Rupees can you imagine? Is it awesome or not? All the premises is clean and hygiene maintained. What a theatre, its very close to from Kamla Mills. In my opinion its equivalent to PVR cinemas.
The sitting is way more than the screen size. The screen size is very small and the 3D experience is not at all good. Its better to opt for 2D instead of 3D is available. The sound quality is good.
Its an average theatre with a (very) small screen. And There is just one screen. The screen is dark aided with3d goggles makes it even darker which stains the eyes.Seats are great but not enough air conditioning.Food options are good.
Deepak Talkies/Matterden is a really cool place to visit on weekends. They usually have a classic film playing and an annual membership for the same works out to just under Rs. 50 per movie. The only down side is that the screen isnt the biggest or best. Still, this is a very good place to spend some quality time over the weekend without breaking the bank.
Nice ambiance, Good theater place & Dolby sound quality. only problem is that as the movie screen is very small as compare to theater. seating arrangement is comfortable but height between of two rows is very less as compare to other theater.
Its a very good setup .. the area outside the theatre but actually inside the premise.. feels like an open restaurant love the ambience chill and watch a movie or watch one and then chill.
The theater is fine. for the price point it is placed at.. Everything is good.. the seats are comfy the screen is ok, decent sound. A single screen which is good enough.Food wise its not as expensive as well.. so overall a good experience
Good place for movie lovers, in South Mumbai we can watch movies without burning hole in the pocket... Nice ambience and couple friendly... certainly can go with family
Very disappointed. Very bad seats. An avg height person is not be able to watch movie comfortably. Screen is very small for capacity. None sound effects. Crowd is also very noisy. Will never visit it again. Carnivals worst cinema theatre.
With a complete new makeover the theatre has now become trendy and comfortable. Cushioned chairs, more than adequate leg space and cheap snacks make the movie viewing experience awesome. Only drawback is you have to grab the front seats to enjoy the most.
Good food options like subway etc. and tickets obviously cheaper than multiplexes. Mostly quite crowded. Special discounts on Wednesdays. Ticket counter staff isnt very efficient though.
The theater has been completely renovated by carnival and is a good place to watch movies with family. The tickets and food are reasonable and yes, it has balcony too.. which makes it a perfect place to get a breather from stereotypical multiplex environment where everything is expensive and ac is too cold for no reason. The only minus about this place is the screen which could have been better ( you might want to skip sci fi movies here) but its good enough for any typical drama movie.PS: check out the elephant in the compound..its where Coldplay had shot song hymn for the weekend
Comfortable seats. Good Screen and sound system. Amazing theatre. Good pricing for the tickets as well. Worth visit.
Good theatre. Good reclining seats. After Deepak Talkies, Carnival has made it awesome.Just that the screen size should have been larger
The revamped theatre is cute in ambience. Also decent crowd. Single screen so check the shows before going.
The theater is nice and more over it has ample of space to sit before the movie. The food courts are also good with a good variety of things to eat. Just the service is bit slow but overall it is good
Me and my husband reach early so for time pass we ordered popcorn the guy at the counter 3rd class popcorn which was not crunchy so we requested to give us fresh or preheat in popcorn machine but it was the same, and when movie was about to start, they start the machine... I mean Wat the hell, and also they were taking it very lightly...Very disappointed 3 rd class managementI have worked with cinema theater industry. But we never gave such kind of popcorn. Please look into this matter and teach and give proper training to your staff. We are customers and not beggars that you are providing pathetic popcorns.
Quite little old school theatre in the middle of bust Lower Parel. Love their old movie screenings. Check the local papers for updates.
Good
They have recently renovated the hall and its pretty nice and new. The screen could have been slightly bigger but even this is not bad. The sound quality is good enough and the seats are really good and comfy. Its much cheaper than a lot of other halls of this standard in the area. I wouldnt mind revisiting Deepak
Very comfortable seats. Good location.I used to like their earlier strategy of no breaks/intervals. But now the have intervals like other theatres.Loos are clean.Options for food are ok, can improve.Pizza here is good.
A very charmed place. They have the old world decor. Very very nice ambience.
Decent place. Small screen. Clean, well maintained. Middle rows, center seats should be preferred. Incline is not steep so shorter people may face problems to watch movies comfortably. Reasonable prices. Dont expect multiplex offerings.
I love what theyve done with this theatre. Its a great, small, cozy single screen theatre with a wide range of movies. This should be your go-to place if youre looking for a quiet place to watch good movies, away from the hustle bustle of multiplexes.
Happy that this theater shows International movies. The ambience was great, sound was good and our seats at Row M were really comfortable. Their concession stand have a lot of options and there is a nice seating area in the open to chill if u arrive early for a movie.
Service is not upto the mark.. we gave order for food they bring wrong food twice.. in btwn the movie.. just ruined our movie time
Place is good, crowd is decent ambience is good only trouble is the staff and technical glitches it started lately.... Like I had gone for a movie - chhichhore where the movie didnt start after the interval for like an hour...The next show got delayed as well...
Better to be seated in middle passage of after 3rows in executive section to watch movie in full view and enjoy it in lowest price
Good theatre located between lower parel and prabhadevi station. There is no parking facility available at the spot but you can park at lodha the park parking facility provided by MCGM
