Name of the Devotee itself describes how the Bombay got the name Mumbai (Mumba+ Aayi). Mumba is regarded as the goddess of Maharatra histories and in their believes and also Aayi refers Mother.Temple is situated 1.8km from the Marine lines Railway station , probably a walking of 15-20minutes of course.Everyone should visit if you get the opportunity. ❤️😊🤞

I always tend to visit mumba devi. Temple is usually less crowded in afternoons.. mornings they have huge queue outside temple and take hours to enter.. after darshan I tend to eat at bhagatram Tarachand food joint.. there are 3-4 of them.. but the oldest one is the best one to dine in.. it has a ac hall in 1st floor..

This is an ancient Mumbai temple situated in the crowded Zaveri Bazaar district. The city of Mumbai is named after this famous temple. Regrettably, it is not well preserved. However, it is an essential part of Mumbais culture. This temple, located in Mumbais bustling Zaveri bazaar, is one of the citys largest.Though not quite grandly run and definitely not clean or spacious, the temple has a huge following due to the legend that Mumbadevi, the goddess, grants the wishes of any devotee who visits it.

Though the line to enter the temple had around 50-60 people in front of us, within 10 minutes we were inside the temple complex. It is safe to remove footwear where the temple management asks you to.The temple itself is a relatively small space, open to sky so dont forget to look up and admire the old school temple construction when inside. The old but tall residential buildings surrounding the temple area cut out much of the sky view but this only adds to the feeling of being in the old city.Goddess Mumbadevi looks beautiful in silver. A morning visit can feel nice and relaxed. There are 5 or 6 idols in their own smaller temples inside the complex. Some of them are deserted while others have pandits sitting in front. Photography is prohibited. Many sweet shops can be found inside the temple premises selling peda, milk cake, laddoos, etc. for nominal rates. Sweets can be parcelled in a brown paper bag provided by the shopkeepers.
