UmmraoKashmiri cuisine often confused with rich Mughlai cuisine, something that would be spicy, oily and heavy on the stomach. But, the reality is quite contrary. If you are craving for authentic Kashmiri delicacies, head to Courtyard by Marriott in Mumbai. Their restaurant Ummrao is hosting “Daawat-E-Wazwan” festival that gives you a taste of why Kashmir is called the heaven on earth not only in terms of scenery but also in terms of culinary items. The uniqueness of the Kashmiri food lies in the basic premise that is prepared on slow but continuous heat, which makes the food preserve its nutrients and the aroma.Guests are invited to relish the flavors of dishes like Nad Yakhni, Tandoori Kashmiri Trout, Dhaniya Tawa Kukri, Kareli Abb Gosht, Khan Guchhi Pulao and many more. Also, there is a common perception that heavier on Non-vegetarian side. While the menu in the food festival features a variety of vegetarian dishes which was equally mouthwatering as non-vegetarian dishes. The festival is open till 31st January 2020.Food: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5P.S: The review is strictly depending on my personal experience.

We were at the plush Nizami royal dining restaurant Ummrao at Courtyard by Marriott. The ambiance of the restaurant is just outstanding, it is extremely beautiful, inviting and royal. Service by Mr. Yash and Miss. Megha was really good. They made sure to explain all the dishes and the specialities of the restaurant. Chef Gagan doled out the best of the best.We tried the below dishes:1. Tamatar ka shorba - The tomato soup had a hint of dried coriander powder and was served with a crunchy namak para. Really peppery kind of soup, really nice.2. Rajasthani Ghost ke soole - the Mutton pieces were melt in the mouth tender with a lightly flavoured masala. It was served with a crisp spinach leaf at the bottom that lent crispness to the dish.3. Zaffrani Jhinga - The jhinga was humongous and fresh and again was delicately flavoured with saffron.4. Nalli Nihari - it was a heavy lentil based gravy with a whole load of mutton. Quite a rich gravy.5. Bhuna Adraki Chap - this was Mutton chops served on a bed of haleem. The haleem was really rich and flavourful. It had bits of dry fruit in it and it was great coupled with the Mutton.6. Veg Biryani - The Biryani was loaded with olives, dry fruits, peas and was full of masala and jam packed with flavours.7. Basket of naans - we had a basket full of naans and we chose a different assortment. We had the chilly cheese naan which was just amazing. The peas Paratha was also really good. The8. Double ka meetha - the quintessential double ka meetha served with some delicious, creamy Kulfi.9. Khubani Tart - The Tart was really buttery, flaky and thin and was loaded with Khubani halwa and was covered with a coat of Rabri as well. This was a really balanced dessert. Enjoyed it quite a bit.All in all really enjoyed the meal. It was a delectable, rich and classy affair. Much recommended for a special date!

Loved it.Nadru ki shammi... Rich, smooth, flavorful and delicious Kebab made with lotus stem. Yum.Coming to mains, we tried a Vegetarian haleem which was made with mushrooms. It was decent. Had it with a Laccha Paratha.Seasonal mix of 5 saag.. leafy vegetables.. Spinach, dill, methi, onions and ambada. Tempered with garlic. So flavorful and delicious. Went along well with garlic naan.Kali daal was delicious. Creamy and rich.Dum Gucchi Biryani.. was excellent. Stuffed Morels cooked with fragrant long grain basmati. Perfectly seasoned and delicious. Before I begin my review, would just like to say that I was in awe of this place, the dining experience, the food, everything about Ummrao! Loacted at Level M of Courtyard by Marriott Andheri East near Airport, the restaurant has recently opened (2nd week of October). Ummrao serves Awadhi Cuisine and the menu and all recipes are curated by Executive Master Chef Mr Mukhtar Qureshi. He has been a part of ITC and Neel.Currently the place is open only for dinner. Every ingredient used in the dish has been especially sourced from different parts of India. Ummrao also has a private dining room where you may book as a prior reservation and hold parties.Talking about what all we tried -Moving on to Starters, we had Paneer Trilogy, Nadru Shammi, Galouti Shatavar and Jaituni Khumb. All the starters were amazing but a special mention for Jaituni Khumb and Nadru Shammi. Nadru Shammi a chefs recommendation has Lotus Stem and whole wheat Paratha used as the base and tikki is made of a mix of anjeer, carrots and beans. Absolutely loved the taste and rich texture. Must try.Jaituni which means Olives and Khumb means mushroom. A fantastic starter of Stuffed Mushroom with Olives and Cheese. Base used is Aam Ka Muraba (mango chutney). Tanginess of the dish is retained and the rich flavours of olive, cheese and mushroom burst in your mouth the moment you have your first bite. Another fabulous starter. Must try.Paneer Trilogy has 3 different types of Cottage Cheese marinated in different flavours and spices. One is of Smoked Bell Pepper, other is Classic Mint based Paneer and last one has Dil Leaf marination! Cottage cheese lovers and those who dont prefer Lotus Stem or Mushroom must go for this starter! Galouti Shatavar is tikki made primarily of Asparagus and the base used is a Zaffrani Paratha.Moving to the mains - we tried Vegetables recommended by the Executive Chef and all of them were very different from each other. Tried the Kaliya Paneer Pasanda, Korma Seb Wazwan and Awadhi Bhindi Makai do Pyaza. Paneer Pasanda is the regular all time favourite for all Vegetarians and those who dont prefer experimenting. The best part is that every Vegetable is recommended along with its own special Indian Bread. Paneer Pasanda is recommended with Bhakumas.Korma Seb Wazwan is Kashmiri Red Apple Curry which is recommended with Taftaan bread. Red thick texture and sweetness of the curry along with spices play an important role. Lovely curry and must try for those open to experimenting. Awadhi Bhindi Makai Do Pyaza as the name suggests, Lady finger with Makai and onions in white curry recommended to have with Pudina Paratha! Awesome. All of these tried along with Dum Ki Kabuli Dal. One of the best Black Lentils dal (soaked overnight) till date. It will be a crime in case you miss ordering this Kabuli Dal. Along with other breads we also tried the Saffron Magaj Naan something again one should try. Before the desserts, we decided to have Biryani. Was really excited to try Biryani since it is one of the most important part  of meal in Awadhi cuisine. Being a Vegetarian I tried the Bagare Gucchi Biryani which is Wild Morcel Mushrooms from Kashmiri. Extremely rare, extremely expensive mushroom and you get to each such delicacies only at such premium places. Rice used was the long grain aromatic rice mixed well with other spices. Simply out if this world! Finally moving towards desserts, we tried couple of them - Slow Cooked Double Ka Meetha which was Shahi Tukda served with Vanilla Ice-cream topped with almonds and pistachio and Purdah Khubani Tart which was apricot tart topped with plenty of berries served with Traditional Kulfi. Both the desserts were really good, not too sweet but just the right amount to end a fantastic meal and an experience!All-in-all fabulous time spent at Ummrao, would especially like to thank the executive chef for such amazing food and experience, one to be cherished for a life time. Would recommend all to visit and try Ummrao incase you are in the area.

Ummrao is a Fine Dine nestled in the very popular hotel Courtyard by Marriott, Andheri.Known for Moghlai cuisine, the menu is curated by Master chef Mukhtar Qureshi. The place wears rich and luxurious ambience with elegantly designed interiors. Nawabi style setup is sure to give you that ultimate Royal dine feel.Well trained and prompt with service, the hospitality is top notch.Quickly let me take you through food and beverages journey.Tried the cocktails Ada Coleman, a whiskey based cocktail fresh minty cocktail with sweet and sour notes coming out from Jaggery and tamarind extracts.Victor Trader Vic Bergeron, fusion of Vodka and rum in a coconut milk based syrup added with special twist of tempered curry leaf.Galouti lovers, why not try their Puraane Chowk ki Galouti served on mini parathas. So perfectly cooked meat melts in the mouth....sure to ask for more.Indian West Coast Rawas Tikka is highly recommended for the fish lovers in a kasundi mustard sauce and lucknowi masala. This succulent cubes of fish is just mouthwatering good. Also had Ambada Prawns, but the fish counterpart wins my vote. How about combination of Prawns with mango, sounds interesting???Then try their Jhinga Kairi Curry. This unique combination of perfectly cooked prawns in a base of raw mango, onion and coconut milk is irresistible and combines beautifully with the accompaniment Bagaare chawal.Murg Yakhni Pulao, another outstanding mains here. A very aromatic and flavoursome Pulao with well cooked chicken cubes is must try.For the desserts, tried the classic Kesar pista phirni....happy end to such an amazing meal. But it does not end here though, we tried another dessert too.Purhad Khubhani Tart, again an innovative combination of rabri on an apricot tart is brilliant served with a Kulfi.Delightful experience at this place will stay for long in memories and happy that Marriott group is keeping the Awadhi Cuisine alive trough Ummrao.

Absolutely brilliant taste experience! The unconventional, spice based mocktails and taste filled mains were lip smacking. I had Justuju - a turmeric based mocktail with lychee and dragon fruit. It was one of the best I have had. Followed it up with simple seasonal veg mix that had a variety of saags mixed and garlic naan. Once again, one of the best tasting naan I have had and the flavours in the veg mix were amazing.Thoroughly enjoyed it!

For a really amazing Indian gastronomic experience, that’s a little on the upmarket side, then Ummrao is a great restaurant to try while in Mumbai. It’s located at the Courtyard hotel, by Marriott and offers a great selection of Indian options, from a full set menu, veg and non-veg options or you can decide on something on the à la carte menu.We were recommended to try a selection of their local Indian meals and then share them amounts the party, with an array of breads too - which was a super idea, as everyone got to try different meals.Service with a smile was always great, helpful and always eager to offer some guidance on items that pair well together. There is also a full private dining area, if you are entertaining clients or celebrating something, it’s definitely worth booking the room.

Ummrao - Dining at UMMRAO was an amazing experience yesterday. There are chefs and there are Master Chefs. Mukhtar Qureshi (Ex ITC / Neel) has curated a lovely menu and has giving his best. Culinary experience reinforced by the royal kitchens of Lucknow/Kishangan/Rampur/Murshidabad/Hyderabad/Malihabad/Faizabad. As far as the decor of this place goes, one word - Royal. Food and Service was up to the mark. Since we ordered for small portions could not figure out the plating however coming to food - WOW. Chef has cut down on the richness and over spices. This Place has some amazing cocktails to try out and a private room as well. One needs to have a look in the kitchen as well. Here is what I experienced.Restaurant Opens at 5 Pm, located at Courtyard Marriott. Menu has Small Plates (half portion) Set Menu and A la Carte. Take your pick.Once seated you get a small Portion (complimentary) Shorba for Veg they have the Chil Goza Santra Shorba - has a citrusy touch rich, tangy to start with and then settles down. This is Basically Malta and Root vegetable soup. Non Veg the ever popular GOSHT AWADH SHORBA - Smoked marrow soup. Perfect in spices/Herbs and perfect balance. RichStarters: VEGETARIAN------------------------Nadru Shammi (Lotus Stem) Chefs Signature dish. Its Lotus Stem all the way. Boiled/chopped/Mixer adding spices (Fresh coriander/green chilli/cumin etc) Shallow fry placed Small Paratha. Loved the texture and taste. Garnish of Yellow Bell pepper rings and Ricotta. Herbs/spices subtle not over. Perfect start.Badam Gulhar Ki Tikki - something different. This has got the spices balanced well with the fig and almond. Rich at the same time. Pan seared. Placed over Crispy lotus stem and garnish of tamarind/Fig chutney.Non Vegetarian------------------Jahangiri Murg Seekh - presented well. Tasted awesome. Basically Minced chicken light in spices at the same time packed with flavours and aroma. The outer layer had a crunchy texture from the Boiled egg crumble. To get the richness chef has added a bit of cheddar as well. Overall good.Ambada Jhinga - loved the marination. Takes you to Hyderabad. Flat Prawns marinated with Ambada (also known as Sorrel) or Gongura leaves along with the spices. Tandoored and served in a deep bowl.Purani Chowk Ki Galouti - Who can make a better Galouti then the qureshis. Not going in details. This is a must try dish at Ummrao. Its a classic. Here the chef has reduced the spice level, let the mutton speak for itself. Served over Zaffrani Paratha. Winner.Mains:-------Vegetarian - Seasonal Mix, This is basically 5 saag melange. He has used Ambada/Palak/methi/dill and hara Pyaaz. Texture rusty. Taste was subtle at the same time had the flavours of the light spices. Not oily however he has topped it with Ricotta cheese cherry tomato and a couple of walnut. Overall a winner of a dish goes well or paired with Garlic Naan.Korma SEB WAZWAN - this has to be the star dish of the day. Been having this from Neel. Its all about how one can get a beautiful Velvety texture gravy from Kashmiri Red apple. A semi thick curry made out of apples. Spices play a key role. Got it correct. Garnish of pistachio. Loved the Julienne Ginger garnish balances the taste. This Dish goes well Zaffrani Naan.Non Veg:------------Murg Mullah Do Pyaza - Boneless pieces of chicken in tomato and onion gravy with spices. Texture was good. Balance of Herbs and spices just perfect. When we say Do Pyaza its related to 2 onions. This dish technically is a south-Asian curry dish. Has two stages of cooking. Even the garnish is onions. Goes well with Pudina paratha.Biryani -Qureshi are known for some amazing Biryani. We tried the BAGARE GUCCHI (Kashmiri Morels) or mushrooms one can call. Guess its a very costly ingredient. If its the correct ingredient used its around 200 per Gucchi. As usual the Long grain rice was aromatic. Found some grains stuck. (Chef please look into this) Saffron and other spices went well. Served with Raita. Go for it.

Ummrao ❤️A royal place located in Courtyard by Marriott. This place is a dream for every Food Lover, especially me. Ummrao was a lifetime experience for me.We were just floored by this place form the time of entering it. Superb Ambiance, Great Hospitality and Mindblowing Food.We had the best dishes of Ummrao and when I say best, the premium dishes served in one of the best restaurant of Mumbai. We had lovely Red Wine and a Whiskey Cocktail to go with the Food. In the Food section we had everything from Galouti Shatavar to Norwegian Salmon, Chicken Seekh to Mutton kebabs. In the Main course we had the traditional Nalli Nihari, Prawns Curry and chicken with three different Breads.Desserts were the best part with Kesar Phirni, Double ka meetha and Khajur ka Halwa.I recommend this place to every Food lover our there.Food: 5/5Staff: 5/5Ambience: 5/5Value for Money: 5/5

Experienced fine lunch recently at Ummrao. Nestled inside Courtyard by Marriott, Mumbai on the first floor, Ummrao is a modern take on the Mughal-era royal kitchens of Lucknow, Rampur, Faizabad, Malhabad, Murshidabad and Hyderabad. The word Ummrao is the Urdu translation of “The Nobel” or “The Loved One. They do take mehmaan nawazi very seriously :)This fine dining place is heaven for traditional Mughal cuisine lovers. It introduces its patrons with dishes that the Mughal dynasty introduced to India, and is still quite popular. I tried one such dish which is their Murg Yakhni Pulao. It was presented really well with the yakhni and raita on the sides, very aromatic and flavourful. The raita was so light and almost airy. I strongly suggest that you try this dish at Ummrao.I tried 3 small portions of their non vegetarian appetisers - Murshidabadi Gosht Sheekh Ambada Jhinga and Sarson Murgh Kalimirch. Although all three of them were fantastic, I am more biased towards Ambada Jhinga, probably because I love prawns :) Must try dish!Lets talk about Ummraos cocktails. A unique thing about their cocktail menu was that each cocktail was named after a mixologist of various eras, known for some signature concoctions of their own. This is an amazing thing - honouring and paying tribute to mixologists in this fashion! Among the cocktails that I tried, I would highly recommend William Schmidt, a drink inspired from this late 19th century German mixologist, who was known for his moustache and his signature elixir of a cocktail. This drink is a concoction of pomegranate and basil, with triple sec and whisky. I think Ketan is to be credited for serving this excellent drink! My lunch at Ummrao ended on a sweet note with their royal dessert, Slow Cooked Double Ka Meetha, with traditional Kulfi. The double part is their take on Shahi Tukda, which in this case is bread slow cooked in rabri, and served with a scoop of badaam ka halwa. Some almond shavings on top for garnish, of course :) And the kulfi is one of the creamiest and smoothest I have had in a long time! An absolutely shahi way to end a rich lunch experience! This lunch at Ummrao is one of the finest experiences of 2019 for sure. I would especially like to give Chef Gagan a huge shoutout for preparing all the gorgeous food for us to taste. I would absolutely like to come back here again!
