The National Gallery of Modern Art is to ensure quality and to set and maintain standards of excellence. Amazing paintings great place for art lover, dont know why it was just empty youngsters should visit this place.
Walking Through Soul City - Sudhir PatwardhanThis was an amazing display of art work. Loved the detailing in every painting. Enjoyed each piece of art minutely. A must visit exhibition. Loved the different characters portrayed in each frame. Each one was unique. Each one has an identity. They werent simply human beings. And every painting evoked thoughts in my head and created conversation.
A beautiful gallery just opposite Regal cinema at Colaba. Entrance fee is very reasonable at Rs20 for Indians. They regularly change their display, maybe once a month. They currently have on display, the LIFE OF MAHATMA GANDHI.The displays comprise of paintings, collectables, daily use items, broken negatives on the MAHATMA.Dont miss the display depicting the Dandi March. They have a projector that projects the waves on a wall, and they have made a sea shore with salt. His staff stands straight on the sea shore. And the sound of the waves rises in the background. JUST SPECTACULAR.Another exhibit depicts a loom and threads flowing on the ground and circling alphabets that form a sentence. VERY MOVING AND TOUCHING.You can take photographs, but without a flash and only from a mobile.
This is unarguably the best place to visit in terms of Modern art. The art works exhibited here by famous artists will make you speechless. There is constant change in the arts displayed here. The time I visited this place the an exhibition named Inner Resonance was going on, which showcased the works done by Mr. S.G.Vasudev, which included paintings, drawings, copper etchings and tapestry. The ticket price here is very cheap and you can spend as much time Nas you want and there is also a small souvenir shop selling books related to art, copy of paintings and cups.If you ever go to Mumbai, you should definitely visit this place.
Beautiful gallery of modern art but its quite small in size (Ive expected way bigger gallery). Clean, well maintained. Collection well curated.Entrance 20 rs for Indians, 500 rs for foreigners (if u have OCI card than 20 rs entrance).Theres available cafeteria with extremely affordable prices (omelette 50 rs, pav 20 rs, black coffee 30 rs)Washroom available.
National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai was opened to the public in 1996. It hosts various exhibitions and art collections of famous artists, sculptors and different civilizations. It is situated in the Cowasji Jehangir Hall, near Regal Cinema in Colaba. The idea of a National art gallery was first mooted in 1949,[by whom?] and further developed by Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and Maulana Azad, bureaucrats such as Humayun Kabir and the local art community. Vice-president Dr. S.Radhakrishnan formally inaugurated the NGMA in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and artists and art lovers of the city on 29 March 1954. The choice of Jaipur House, one of the premier edifices of Lutyens’ Delhi, signified the envisaged high profile of the institution. Designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield, as a residence for the Maharaja of Jaipur, the butterfly-shaped building with a central dome was built in 1936. It was styled after a concept of the Central Hexagon visualised by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It was Lutyens, along with Herbert Baker, who visualized and gave shape to the new capital in Delhi. Along with buildings designed for other princely potentates like Bikaner and Hyderabad, Jaipur House girded the India Gate circle.
Nice and cozy place. Been here in February 2009, one painting I cant still forget. Modern artist, dont remember the name. Some psychedelic picnic or something. View from above. People hanging on the lawn, some sitting some laying on a mat. Some objects also on the mat - dont remember exactly, maybe some food, maybe some other stuff. One of the people smoking a cigarette, a classic transparent plastic lighter (green or yellow?) is laying on the mat near the smoking person. Colors are psychedelic, objects seem glowing like you are tripping on mushrooms or acid. If someone could tell me what is the author or painting or what author it can be look like. I tried to ask writing email directly on the gallery email, but they didnt tell.
I love visiting this place whenever I get a chance to go to colaba, the gallery of modern art keeps changing their displays once in 2 months, I absolutely love the ambiance of the place, very polite and helpful staff , + art makes everyone happy.
The art collection of the gallery is vast and contemporary. I could click only one pic inside the gallery as there were strict rules for photography. One can experience the process of nature here as they have put projectors to show the artistic videos. Their art is a dynamic combination of materials, concepts, technologies, and subjects that challenge traditional boundaries and defy easy definition.I really liked the ambiance. A very good place for art enthusiasts.
One of the detailed art gallery Ive ever seen which is extensively for the modern art. I
Very silent, like a library. Wonderful art as well. But there were some things I couldnt comprehend, and some that didnt make a lot of sense. Art is art, anyway. Liked the place!
Have visited this place so many times, youll get to see some amazing pieces here.It is nicely kept and maintained. For art enthusiasts, this is a must visit.
Went twice in the span of 6 months, wasnt open even once
Very beautiful place.
Loved it here. Have visited numerous times and have spent hours poring over the paintings and sculptures. Great way to spend a weekend. One can learn about the history of painting in India and sculpture making by following the carefully curated design. They have a library too!
Unarguably the most happening place as far as modern art is concerned. Its located opp the museum. This multiple storey art gallery displays the most contemporary art exhibits of our times. The presentation and ambience is most captivating. The ticket cost is RS. 20/- per person. The place is centrally air-conditioned and very stylish. A must visit for modern art buffs.
This place is peaceful with great ambiance and the serene soundtrack played in the background. The artwork displayed is well-curated and a good amount of information is provided. This place mainly focuses on the works of Mahatma Gandhi and a strong message is provided along with each artwork. This place has a reasonable entry fee costing 20 rupees.
Beautiful structure in and out. As the name suggests, it is a gallery of modern art. The place is quiet and peaceful. There are huge projectors to display the digital art, as well. The interiors are made beautifully. Tourists can visit this gallery to identify the essence of art and magnificent structures. Its not much crowded and could be difficult to find since the taxi drivers are not aware about it. Spell the alternative name that is used for this gallery to reach faster.
The place has a good vibe. 3/4th of the museum is about Mahatma Gandhi and his entire life. While walking through the stairs of the exhibition, you will find these quotes which are really touching. You should explore more about the works of Gandhi. It is worth it. Photography and smoking in this place is not allowed. The charges are Rs. 20/- for an Indian citizens and Rs. 500/- for a foreigners.
This is possibly the most underrated museum in Bombay. Apart from the beautiful paintings and sculptures, the internal architecture is mind boggling. As you make your way through the exhibits, you climb higher and each level is designed differently. My favourite is the top level, where if there arent any noisy people, you can sit on the bench and meditate in absolute silence. Id recommend going here when it isnt too busy to get the best experience.
Amazing place and very peaceful place to see art...The Night Gallery of Modern Art is a museum of art maintained by government, which has its counterparts in New Delhi and Mumbai. The museum compound is filled with lively plants and water bodies. This place has a peaceful vibe, making one to forget about everything. There are a number of interesting things in gallery which shows contemporary exporters and importers of Indian culture: Indian artists who achieved some international Fame and international artists who have been influenced by Indian culture.
Nice gallery
This place is really good if you are an art enthusiast. There are many exhibitions which are held regularly and fees is nominal for Indian tourists ( 20 rupees only) . For overseas and citizens from other countries you will have to pay 500 rupees. Its a three storey structure and exhibits paintings at all three levels. Properly air conditioned and sitting arrangement for looking at paintings. Please make sure if you can click pictures as some exhibits prohibit this. Also please maintain silence. There is cafe in the premises and you can have breakfast depending on the menu and availability. There is no parking arrangement although there are parking lots at kala ghoda.
Great place. Interior is an art in itself. Well designed. A lot of different arts displayed.Like it if you find it helpful and felt the same.
An experience of art that Ill never forget!!
Beautiful!! Very well preserved.
Entry fee is 20 for Indians. Locker service available. Pictures can be clicked. Its a 4-floor art gallery filled majorly with paintings by Mehhli Gobhai.Great abstract art for the interested audience!
This is an astonishing art gallery. You can experience here the finest art which associated with nature. The presentation here has been enhanced with the vibrant technology. Yes the gallery is filled with projectors which makes you to feel the nature in multi-dimension. I was impressed by the section of Kumbha Mela which made me to dive into the emotion of pilgrims captured by the cameras. Totally it was amazing
The NGMA will never disappoint you. The finest of Indian art with the best of storytelling is always delivered. They typically have one exhibition a month where they feature a prominent artist from India (or with significant Indian roots). The entry fee is really small for Indians and not too bad for foreigners either (Rs. 20 for an Indian visitor and Rs.500 for a foreigner). You cant take pictures of exhibits unless you buy a separate photography pass, which is expensive. Enjoy the art and also the architecture of the building itself.
Its a good place to spice up your art enthusiasm. They have restrictions towards photography. Ambience is good and well lighted. We can spend peaceful time and love to observe the art. They check completely the bags and things you carry inside. Keep your expectations little and it will never disappoint you.
Historic
Minimal fees of rupees 10/-. What more can one ask for. 3-4 levels of art. Different collections. Helpful staff. Good location. Lot of books and posters to choose from.

Its a modern art gallery where exhibits in the form of paintings, projectors, photographs are put up for display. Its about 20 minutes walk from both Churchgate and CST station. Its a small, quiet place and has a curved interior walls that are used as displays. The exhibition changes every month. The charges are not much and is worth to visit for a good exhibition. You can check what exhibition it is on their website.
Amazing gallery very spacious and one of the best places to display ones work. Had gone there to see Shri Sudhir Patwardhans work. They also had prints for sale at a pretty reasonable price.
As the name indicates National gallery of Modern art that it is the best gallery in Mumbai to have a look at the modern art. There are many magnificent arts displayed here from the various parts of the country and to give your eyes a treat you should visit it once you will never regret it.
Must visit place if you like art and interested bin exploring different kinds if art forms and ideas. They have managed a good mix of art work. Keep a day for the visit.
A relatively smaller gallery than NGMA Delhi. A staircase take you up 4 floors to see magnificent works of art displayed. Will not take you more than 2-3 hours to browse through the gallery. Do check out what is on display before you go because they replace their usual collection with the exhibition prices due to lack of space.
You can experience here the finest art which associated with nature. The presentation here has been enhanced with the vibrant technology. Yes the gallery is filled with projectors which makes you to feel the nature in multi-dimension.Thanks For Reading 📖
Went to see a kathak performance. So could not appreciate it fully. That is why one less star! It is an amazing place with a great layout..though not really conducive to a dance performance! Kala Ghoda festival should have organised the kathak performance , which was awesomely fabulous at the cross maidan venue.
Nice curated art gallery with places to sit and prints of famous artists on sale. But removing all great masters for one specific event! I did not like it. Please check on the net before going. Closes on Mondays. Has clean toilets at the back.
One can access only the gallery area, all other amenities like auditorium and libraries are not assecible for public directly and the timmings are 11:00 am - 6:00 pm ( Monday - Friday) and 11:00 am - 8:00 pm ( Saturday - Sunday)
Its a very good museum. When I visited there was a vast collection of modern arts. It will take atleast 3 hours to visit all the modern arts in the building. It has many floors and peaceful environment.
It has great collection, and the facility is awesome. Staffs are very nice and you need to pay for the cameras.
A good place to spend some quality time. Ive been there many times. Mostly during kalaghoda festival during which some theatre or workshops are organised here. This time we went there for a motionless poetical theatre and Ill say it was totally worth it. The actors were great the writer cum director the best. Nice place.
One of my favourite places to visit in town. A must-go for art lovers!
Its something to be experienced, tough to put into words. Brilliant blend of contemporary art and technology, to ensure a complete visual treat for you. Duration 1hour minimum. My 10+ aged kids also enjoyed a lot.
It was a nice congregation of paintings, sculptures and abstract themes. Too bad they dont allow to take any pictures inside. The building is a nice old colonial styled one. Ask for SAARC discount at ticket counter if you are from one of the 8 countries.
They have something new to offer every week. A wonderful gallery showcasing noteworthy works of many. I attended an interactive exhibition of students which was very information & gave me a fresh perpective on the nature.
I am visited these place and love these very well these is all of beautifully place in bombay with all ancient things are here, so climate is very cool and also these place is a near to arebian sea and these is a British times bmeseum
Has a good collection of contemporary paintings, mostly of unheard yet talented ones. The ambience is good. Photography is strictly restricted, although one could sneak out and take one or two.
Great place for people who value paintings and also offers a great opportunity for Students to learn.
Very creative work. Best place for art lovers. Well maintained place. There is photography gallery as well. Loved the creativity
Awesome Management and peace place where you can enjoy many paintings made by Artists, This place is like Heaven for Art and Painting lovers, At least one time you should visit this place.
Display the great artists artwork. Every artist must visit this place.
As you enter the main gate and put your purse thru the xray machine, there is some confusion. You are asked to return to the yard to the lockers to safekeep the purse and then purchase the tickets which is a steal at Rs.20 ( 500 for non Indians). But once you enter the gallery, you are in a different world. The gallery is impeccably designed with several open circular levels. Not sure if the gallery is wheel chair friendlyThe lighting and the temperature are controlled perfectly. There are ample benches to sit and gaze at the displayed artwork. The display is amazingly designed. One can look forward to an enriching experience.
Ive visited the Jehangir Art Gallery regularly over the past 2 years. But I was blown away by the collection here. The collection is visibly better curated, and the artists on display here although not necessarily famous are undoubtedly amongst the most intriguing and diverse Ive seen.
Actually it was a heaven feeling. Seeing the art and sculptures of artist Vasudev I am somuch touched to his skills. I think m in love with arts and painting and portraits.
