This ruin is also under protection of Indian Archaeology Society.Mandapeshwar caves have sculptures of Nataraja, Sadashiva and a splendid sculpture of Ardhanarishvara. It also has Ganesha, Brahma and Vishnu statuettes. These works depicted the mythical tales of the Hindu gods and goddesses
A good place to visit for quick refreshment of mind. It is pretty far from Borivali West, Dahisar and Borivali both would be same in distance. There is small Shiv Mandir inside the caves. The upper area is very beautiful and must watch for anyone who is interested in history and Nature (recommended for photoshoots as well.) There are usually less people so it would be better if one visits with whole group or at least 3-4 persons for safety purposes.
Place is closed as of now . When I got there it wasnt open . Due to Covid the place is shut down right now.
I have visited hair, there is no maintenance, all archological department,no maintenance
Very poorly maintained. Government has put zero effort in restoring it.Easy to miss the entrance as its very inconspicuous and the entrance is blocked by auto-rickshaws parked and being cleaned.Nearest landmarks are the St. Francis Institute of Technology and the school.Hard to spend more than 30 mins max at this place and thats pushing it.Best time to visit would be in the morning on a run 🏃♂️ when the only crowds are other runners or cyclists.
A great historical location now turned into a shankar mandir. People usually only come here to worship the Shivling. Its a good place for photoshoots. Entry is free. Its literally on the roads amidst the urban life of Mumbai, not in some alley or forest. Looks a little suspicious and unsafe, since alot of guys come to smoke and drink and the security is least concerned. Also girls visiting alone should be a little careful especially if youre going deep inside, since not a lot of people can be seen.
Its closed today due covid19 restrictionsI couldnt make it
A marvel of ancient engineering in monolithic. A stopover place for the pilgrims enroute to Kanheri caves. All these type of caves have water harvesting system. The structure has lost most of its design and statues due to poor maintainence and neglect from Archeological department.Powerful place to meditate and seek lord Shivas blessings. A powerful place to align and recharge body magnetism, aura and chakras. Thus fulfilling your desires.Om Shiv Om.
This place is dedicated to lord Shiva. It is amongst few hidden gems of our city where you must visit at least once. Now this property is protected by government officials and in good condition. Cleanliness maintained.
Caves have rich history and gives us a soothing feeling when entered. Its a must visit place.
Ancient caves succinctly displaying the historical importance of its era. The area requires some maintenance though.
Very nice .. gives the feel of a heritage site :)
Not maintained properly but one can go to pray in temple
An ancient Indian rock cut caves located in Borivli. These caves dates back to the 8th century AD and is under ASI. There are some sculptures and a Portuguese carved cross near the entrance. Sadly, it is being neglected and is under police protection. It is ideal for those who are interested in history.
Nice place to sit in peaceNice Shiv mandir in the caveBut is not very large place and good place for a quick strole
Very good place
Nice place for exploration and witnessing a small memento of Indias ancient past. It was once a Buddhist dwelling for monks
Loved the ruins of the old Portuguese church above the Mandapeshwar caves.
It was good experience to visit there in lovely morning... With bunny..🐇
Caves are clean. Mainly because the temple of Lord Shiva.
It is near from Dahisar Station, also what a nice ancient structure. U should visit if u want to know about ancient structures.
Its not like superb place, but yeah visiting it is not bad. You can visit it for fun.

Parfect unisex salon
This is nice temple on bhagvan Shiva.
Ancient temple of shiva nestled in middle of city
There is nothing very special to explore... Go if and only if you have other works to do in that locality... Otherwise dont waste time...
One of the ancient pride of India yet not much famous..it need to be renovated
Love the overall ambience. The vibe 🔥
Very ancient place in heart of the city ..
Very nice, well maintain thanks.
A lost site in the concrete jungle of Mumbai, this is an 8th century cave, carved by Buddhist monks, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is still active, with regular aartis being performed. This cave bears the brunt of the destruction of conquerers, with an ancient idol being converted into a cross. visit here for a n unexpected tranquility and get lost in the cycle of time.
Nice place
Beautifu God shival temple of ancient time.
Unbelievable to find such old cave in the heart of populated Mumbai City
Cool place ,peacefull
This place is currently closed

It is close due to guidelines
Visit once but dont expect much from it. Nothing great.
Nice & old heritage place
Cleanliness and maintenance is very poor.
Best palce in Borivali.. caves..
Nice place to visit with family
This place is no fun if you go there without background research.— the floor just near the entrance has two ancient board games carved on it, Backgammon and, Bagh and Bakri(or Bagh Chal or Tiger and Goat). One could learn how to play these and try them with friends. The board game with coins on(as in the picture) is Bagh Bakri. It’s a strategy game. On the same board, another game called Alquerque could be played.
Nice
Very lovely place for visiting with family and pals. Entry is free of cost . The government should maintain such beautiful historical heritage
Good
Its good
Loved it . 🙏
Very very neglected place...
5 stars only for the reason that the cave is ancient and is historically important.History can be searched via GoogleNormally the temple is moderately crowded in the morning,Upto 11am.Afternoon people prefer not to go.As it is too hot at that time.Evening some people may visit. The temple is only highly crowded during festivalGenerally organized by local authorities and sponsoredMust visit once due to its historic importanceClick photos and post on Google Review😉
Nice and silent place
This is supposed to be ASI site... Filthy is not the word... People from nearby slums use the caves for many purposes both good n bad. Though there is a churchbcloseby during their festivities they do not head any restrictions or orders. Recently saw barricades all round... Donot know if there is any improvement.... Or is it still dirty.
Very relevant and interesting history. Poorly maintained. Bad hygiene.
Amazing peaceful very good place
Its my favourite
Old Caves which was not taken care, now post 2014 the heritage has been converted into Temple along with Caves. I think this spot is now clean of all the slums and encroachments it had in the past. This is the place to visit in the day and evening to watch the history. Place is in safe hands now. Very clean, if beautification is done by removing slums opposite to caves than this area will be definately a tourist spot for Mumbai. It will become the Pali Hill of Subarbs
Now we love to visit this place. So many childrens performed SHIV BHAKTI program with music & Sanskrit shloka. This year we saw lots of pilgrimages visited, %has drastically increased. Volunteers also taking proper care, PRASAD also served properly. RANGOLI, MANDAP decoration also were attractive.Entire area to be declared/ preserve as a National heritage.Need to clean saround area to be clean.
The Mandapeshwar caves are located in Borivali. The nearest railway station is Dahisar from where one can either walk to the caves which will take 15 mins or you can take a rickshaw. There is no entry fee and photography is permitted. There are just two main caves and has few sculptures. There is also some ruins over the caves.
Maybe I went to the wrong place but the caves I saw, had no similarities to the pictures in the book. No entrance fees are charged but the aeria is quite limited. You can not enter that area on top of th caves
Koi suvedha nahe hai, drink water,in side caves no light,,,,,,
It is one of the four caves in mumbai.Kanheri elephanta mahakali and mandapeshwar.Small site and very few carvings are left. Everything else is either destroyed or degraded in time.
Nice cave not maintained properly but its good to spent some time here.
Nothing much to do. Great heritage but not maintained well. Good place for historic photoshoot.
Small set of caves. A temple built within. Has remnants of the old Portuguese church above the caves which one can walk through
Dirty place😣😖😫😫😩
On the occasion of shivratri
Very peaceful place apart from Mumbai crowd whenever I get time I visit hear for blessing of Lord Shiva
Its a good place to visit in close proximity. Specially during Mahashivratri.
Most devine temple to visit with family, one of oldest temple of Lord Mahadev where we can experience the innermost peace for ourself🙏🙏🙏👍
Its a beautiful heritage site.
Had been to these ancient rock-cut caves a long back ago. These caves were built in the 8th century and is under ASI.These caves consist of 3 caves. The first 2 caves are the main ones. The 3rd cave is known as the Cathedral cave attached to the main cave. The interior of the caves consists of sculptures. Near the entrance of the cave is a cross carved by the Portuguese when they converted these caves into a chapel. Now, these caves are under police protection and are used as a religious place of worship. They have been sadly neglected over the years. Photography is not allowed inside the caves. There is no entry fee as such. One can see slum children playing cricket within the cave premises. Also, one can see a buried well as well as a buried Portuguese cross stand being neglected by the ASI. Above the caves, there are ruins of a Portuguese Chapel and a Monastery. Sadly, there are no tourists visiting the caves as they are not maintained.Due to negligence, I would recommend it for history lovers who are facinated about ancient Indian architecture.
Verry nice guys you visit one time feel good
