In memory of Indias first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, the Vikrant Memorial was unveiled by Vice Admiral Surinder Pal Singh Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command at K Subash Marg in the Naval Dockyard of Mumbai on 25 January 2016.The memorial is made from metal recovered from the ship.It is located at opposite side of the Lion Gate.Currently it is not in good condition.
Hardly any artefact of Vikrant
INS Vikrant is the Indian Navys iconic aircraft carrier which won glory in the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971
Beautiful place... Near kala ghoda Festival location. Open 24hrs
The Memorial is dedicated to Indian Navys first Aircraft carrier, which served the nation for 36 glorious years and was decommissioned in 1997.The Vikrant Memorial was unveiled by Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command & Shri Ajoy Mehta, Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on 25 January 2016.The memorial is located opposite to Lion Gate, Naval Dockyard. It is a sculpture created with pieces of metal recovered from the ship-breaking yard and belonged to the decommissioned ship. The memorial is a living testimony of deep gratitude to a majestic ship from all those who served on her as she created the legacy as pioneer of Indian Navys Aviation Arm.
Nice location for Mumbai kala ghoda fort
At the traffic island of Shahid Bhagat Singh Road and K Dubash Marg, bang opposite Lion Gate, Naval Dockyard is one of the latest landmarks in the history of modern Mumbai. A memorial dedicated to Indias First Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant, which played a vital role in the security and defense of the nation from 1961-1997.Sadly all efforts to save the decommissioned ship to be preserved as a Museum went in vain and she was scrapped in 2014 :-(During my NCC days I had the privilege of visiting INS Vikrant on several occasions. For me this memorial is unique not only for its historic value but also as a good landmark created for the city. This great piece of sculpture was crafted out of parts of the ship INS Vikrant by sculptor Arzan Khambatta and unveiled on 25 January 2016.As Tourist, this is a must see for you...also a great photo opportunity (including selfies ;) ). Just make sure you do not take pictures of the Lion Gate. That will be an offense.
Located just outside to Lion Gate, Naval Dockyard. This memorial structure is made out of the remaining metal parts of the ship when it had a cutting ceremony at Daru Khana , Reay Road.INS VIKRANT(R11) was the first aircraft carrier ship in Indian Navy and built by Mazagon dock Limited, Mumbai. It was commissioned on 4th March 1961 in Indian Navy and was Decommissioned on 31st January 1997.
Hate it because couldnt make it following Google maps 😡
The location it points to has only a small metal remaining which is the centre of a circle.
Ins vikrant is no more for display
It is not a park at all, it is just a roundabout
Nothing to visitOnly this image
