St. Thomas Cathedral is an Anglican Church built in British Empire era, first ever Anglican Church to be built in Mumbai and dedicated to the first apostle of India. The building is a mix of Neo-Classical and Gothic Revival styles. The latter only obvious from the high altar both in the interior and exterior by walking around to the back of the church, as it looks like there was some restoration worked with a different design from the nave up tot he high altar. The exterior is predominantly white with bands of yellow. Inside the church is well maintained and very Protestant, that is, theres not that much in the way of decorations. However, there are many bas relief sculptures of memorials and a few stained glass windows behind the high altar worth a look. The church is located in the historic area of Mumbai and theres many landmark buildings around the stars, so its worth a detour.

It is the the 300+ year old Cathedral church. It is very imperturbable place. The church is dedicated to St. Thomas, who was responsible for spreading Christianity to these parts of the world. The stained glass windows showcase him with a Bible in one hand and a T-square in the other, reminding viewers that he was a builder by profession. The name of nearby Churchgate station refers to this church. The Cathedral contains many carved stone memorials. Its entrance has an ornate Gothic style fountain.

An excellent example of the true grandeur and legacy of the British (the first Anglican Church in Bombay City), this beautiful edifice of Gothic and Victorian architecture stands tall amongst the many surrounding heritage buildings in the busy Fort area of Mumbai and is the proud recipient of the Asia-Pacific Heritage Conservation Award.. Currently undergoing restoration and conservation works as part of its TRICENTENARY CELEBRATIONS (1718-2018), this architectural marvel also houses the zero milestone which was the focal point from which Bombay spread out into the city that we see today. The church was opened for divine worship on Christmas Day, 1718, and was dedicated and named after St. Thomas, the Apostle. The church has since undergone several restorations, the last being in 2003.

St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai, is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Mumbai of the Church of North India. Named in honour of Saint Thomas the Apostle, the Cathedral is located in the historic centre of Mumbai, Horniman Circle, and is close to Flora Fountain and Bombay House. The 300-year-old church is oldest church in Mumbai[1] and is controlled by the Cathedral and John Connon School.Credit wikipedia. The foundation stone of the church was first laid in 1676, although the church was only finally consecrated for divine service 1718 as the first Anglican church in Mumbai (then called Bombay), within the walls of the fortified British settlement. The Cathedral then lead to the creation of the Cathedral & John Connon School in 1860, in order to provide choristers to the church. The cathedral is a landmark in South Mumbai and is one of the oldest churches in India. It is used by the school for its Founders Day Service on 14 November every year, Carol Service on the last day before the schools Christmas vacation and other special occasions. The Churchgate railway station derives its name from the St. Thomas Cathedral, as the station was linked to the cathedral by a road way leading through one of the three gates of the fortified island city of Mumbai.[2] The walls of the Bombay Fort were demolished in 1862 and the gate leading to the church was replaced by the Flora Fountain in 1864.[

St. Thomas Cathedral, named after Saint Thomas the Apostle, is the very first of Anglican type of church in Mumbai. It is located in the historic prime center of Mumbai on Veer Nariman Road, in close proximity to Horniman Circle Gardens and Flora Fountain. The structure or the building that houses the church has been lately reinstated. It is worthy to mention that St. Thomas Cathedral had been conferred with UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award in the 2004.Standing under a white façade, this church was shaped in Neo Gothic style and bears stark resemblance with the St. Thomas Cathedral of Ireland, and even today it upholds its beauty and grandeur. The entrance has been decorated with a fountain and there is also a memorial for the first Bishop of Bombay. The interiors are made of brass, glass work, plaster of paris with arch shaped windows and cannon-ball-proof terrace. There are colourful stained glass windows that depict St. Thomas, portraying him and reminding visitors of his great contribution to Christianity.
