Beautiful ExperienceYou sure can’t compare Bombay’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya to the museums of the west but it still is one of the best in India.Fondly still known as the Prince Of Wales Museum by the old residents of Bombay it holds some of the most beautiful artifacts from India. They have designated sections as all museums do and they have a gallery for visiting museums so if you are lucky you may get to see a mummy form Egypt of the Terracotta Soldiers or the Persian Cyrus cylinder.Under the guidance of the new management there is always something new happening and even as a regular visitor I am most excitedly waiting for a new exhibit. They have a lovely museum shop too which sells perfect gifts / give aways. You could spend a full day leisurely there.Wishing the CSMVS team super luck.It has been renamed after Shivaji Maharaj now and seems to be renovated too. It was a great experience visiting this museum with family. It is a visual delight for kids in the section where they have replicas of animals, birds, reptiles, sea creatures... Must visit with family !Fantastic Architecture and MuseumPrince of Wales Museum has the most diverse exhibits ranging from taxidermy to Indian sculptures to those from far east. Exhibit on Textiles of India is impressive and informative. The Museum has a small cafe where you can buy some small eats and drink. It will take 2-3 hours of visit time. The fees for foriegners is INR 500 and 70 INR for India.Audio guide is available in 7 languages. There is an excellent museum shop to buy souveniers.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is the main museum in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was founded in the early years of the 20th century by prominent citizens of Mumbai, with the help of the government, to commemorate the visit of George V, who was Prince of Wales at the time. It is located in the heart of South Mumbai near the Gateway of India. The museum was renamed in 1998 after Shivaji, the founder of Maratha Empire. The building is built in the  Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, incorporating elements of other styles of architecture like the Mughal, Maratha and Jain. The museum building is surrounded by a garden of palm trees and formal flower beds. The museum houses approximately 50,000 exhibits of ancient Indian history as well as objects from foreign lands, categorised primarily into three sections: Art, Archaeology and Natural History. The museum houses Indus Valley Civilization artefacts, and other relics from ancient India from the time of the Guptas, Mauryas, Chalukyas and Rashtrakuta.

Great collection of historical and natural science pieces. You can spend up to 4 hours viewing everything if you take your time. Hats of to the management for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the premises. The washrooms are also nicely maintained. This is very important since the place is frequented by foreigners and leaves an impression about our country. Unfortunately, talking about the nature of items kept, it is strictly average. Contents can be broadly categories into 1. Statues, 2. Weapons, 3. Stones with Inscriptions and 4. Paintings. Since there are numerous statues in the caves in and around Mumbai, going to a museum and seeing similar items is not as interesting. The museum authorities should instead concentrate on getting items that are a rare sight and interesting.

The Prince of Wales Museum is a splendid structure situated in Mumbai and is regarded to be one of the heritage buildings of the city. The foundation stone of this edifice was laid down by the Prince of Wales on the 11 November 1905, and it was established as a museum on 10 January 1922. The facade of the museum is a sight to behold in itself and sits in the midst of an expansive green garden. Adorned with stunning stone and lattice work, the architecture of the Prince of Wales Museum is a blend of Indian, Mughal and British engineering styles. Inside, the museum holds almost 50,000 of some of the most exquisite artefacts relating to the rich and diverse history of India.

Visited the museum twice and my first visit was in 2017, During Mumbai Darshan..It was an awesome experience, Loved the place..A must visit situated in heart of the city..Recommended5 Star ⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐The Foundation Stone of the museum was laid by the Prince of Wales on 11th November 1905 and the museum was named Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. For a long time people had also felt the need for a good museum in the city and finally the museum was established by the public contribution aided by the then Government of the Bombay Presidency. This memorial in the form of a museum was to be erected on the plot of land known as the Crescent Site on the southern tip of the island. The architect of the building, George Wittet, was selected after an open competition in 1909. Wittet is known for the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture of which this museum is one of the best examples. The Indo-Saracenic style combines Hindu and Saracenic architectural forms, at times incorporating some elements of Western architecture. The Indian pillared hall, the arched pavilion, the dome rising above the huge intersecting arches forming a beautiful geometrical pattern–all these together make the Museum building a typical example of the Indo-Saracenic style. Small jalis for light and wind add to the grandeur of the building. George Wittet skillfully incorporated the original wooden arched pavilion purchased from a royal house (wada) at Nasik in Maharashtra, as a circular railing on the first floor of the building. The dome of this building is designed after the Gol Gumbaz of Bijapur and the finial is copied from the Taj at Agra. The building was completed in 1914 but it opened to the public much later on 10th January, 1922. Till then it was used by the military as a hospital and for the Children’s Welfare Exhibitions. Many things have changed since then. Bombay is now known as Mumbai and the name of the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India is changed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. Set against a well-laid-out garden which retains its original plan even today, the museum is an important Grade I Heritage building of the city.Incredible India ❤️😘Jai Hind Jai Bharat ❣️🙏🏻

This is a great museum consisting of numerous sculptures and artefacts. It is a 3 storeyed museum, hence, covering the entire museum will take some considerable amount of time. Photography is not allowed inside the museum. You need separate ticket for clicking photographs inside this place otherwise a fine is levied. The maintenance of this place is top-notch and you will get audio guides available here. Get them and switch on the audio and you will get to know the entire details of each and every thing that is present here. The best part in my opinion are the Harappan and Mohenjodaro section. When you see the artefacts kept here you will relive all the pages of history books that you had studied back in school. You get student discount on tickets, hence, dont forget to carry your college identity card in case you own one! A very good place and a must-visit one too.

Lovely museum. You need to allocate atleast 4 hours to do justice. The cafeteria has a nice view but limited food and drinks. Also, beware - Pot tea means just hot water and black tea bags. The staff was pretty rude when we said that pot tea usually means prepared tea and they refused and said they will charge for the hot water!

Best museum Ive been to till now. It has some of those rare inscriptions that we read about only in textbooks. Ashokan inscription exists here. A very, very large museum. Properly going about it will take three hours. Even casual walk takes 1 and a half hours. Some of the most important artifacts unearthed in India are stored here. Japanese and Chinese section is very impressive. Exquisite Tibetan artifacts saved by Tibetan Buddhists from getting destroyed are preserved here. Excellent collection of paintings. Best part is - mobile photography is allowed at an extra charge of approx half of entry price. Hence, I attach pictures taken within. Bring a phone with good low light photography as it is very dark in some places. Camera photography is expensive. Youll need filters to remove glare from glass.Do visit in Mumbai.

The platform has every facility for one to stay for hours and hours. It has food court, railway Jan ahar, charging points, advertisement screens and information screens. The cleanliness and hygiene is super here. It has full security system and a safe place for to stay and wait for trains. Its near central railway. It has cloakroom, luggage booking counter and information counters. The ventilation is proper and fans are enough for so many people out here.
