I did Turkey Trot trail and it was beautiful. If you prefer flatter trails, this one is a little steep and part of it joins Castle Trail where bicycles are allowed. That said, I would consider this an easy/moderate trail depending on your ability (about 2-3 miles of you do the full Turkey Trot trail including the Castle Trail part it joins?). Will definitely be going back to do Castle Trail because I loved the views.
This was a good trail and had great views. The trail starts off steep for the first couple of miles. I’m from Kansas and am not used to mountain running so it may not be too bad if you are used to mountains. I ventured off onto the Meadow Trail and Tower Loop trail and they were both nice. Saw about 30 deer while on the trail. I arrived about 7:00am on a Tuesday morning and only saw a few other people on the trail.
Been one of my favorite parks since I was a kid. In recent years, this trail tends to get very very crowded. They did build a second parking lot a few months ago, so parking shouldnt be an issue anymore. This trail doesnt have a lot of shade. And the first mile or so can get a little bit steep. Beautiful views of red rocks, and you can see downtown Denver in the distance. After a snowstorm, some parks of the trail will have spots of ice that take a while to park. Dogs are allowed, one trail is hiking only(turkey trot), and the second trail(castle trail) is for bikes and hiking.
This place is beautiful and peaceful the nature and the scenery is out of this world! If you have pets just be careful and keep them on a short leash I ran into a couple of rattlesnakes! But if your cool and keep your distance you should be good other than that a great place to visit.
If you hate great views, excellent multi-use trails, and historic structures, this is not the place for you.The trails werent too busy on a Sunday afternoon. While there was snow for most of the hike, the hikers without spikes didnt seem to need them. There are several cool historic sites along the hike, including an old log cabin, overlooking the mountains, that was covered into a big picnic shelter.I recommend this park to other humans.
Only a short drive from anyway in Denver. This park offers 2 major trail heads. The One on the east side is a very challenging with lots of elevation gain and little shade. The west side trail is way better very friendly trail to all ages and abilities. 2 different historical sites that we have found and we only did 2 out of the many trails there.
I like that this trail has entrances at top and bottom of the hill, so you can get dropped off on one end and picked up at the other. Its a windy trail, and well maintained. There are picnic tables, and even a bike maintenance station! Great place nearby Denver for a good little hike. Sometimes, you even hear the music from Red Rocks Amphitheater.
This is a great place to hike! The trails are well maintained, there’s lots of signs and benches along the way, and there’s several cool destination spots. If you park at the West Trialhead parking lot, I would definitely recommend the Walker Home Ruins, the Eagle Eye Shelter, and the lookout tower. All of those are short and relatively easy hikes. If you want to hike a little further, the Summer White House Site is cool as well.
Beautiful with many trails for all level of hikers. Great to get out of the house and see natures beauty.
This is one of my favorite hikes when I want to stay close to town. I use the east parking lot just outside of Morrison. You can take a quick loop on the Turkey Trot Trail in about an hour and a half to two hours. It is moderate difficulty with a steep incline in the beginning of the hike. If youre in for a longer hike you can continue on the Castle Trail which leads you all the way 2 the west parking lot off of 285 in Indian Hills. Beautiful scenery and a good photo op with Red Rocks amphitheatre in the background.
This is a great place for hiking, dog walking, sketching and taking pictures. The East parking lot fills up fast and the trails have limited shade for the first couple of miles. The West parking lot has more spots, but is a little harder to get to. The West lot has both wide, family trails and smaller, rocky trails with various levels of incline. Check out the Eagles Eye Shelter for great views of the sunset.
This trail is one of my favorite that I have been on so far. Equal parts easy and challenging. Parking is simple and is a short walk to the beginning of the trail. Great photo opportunities for scenery and wildlife. Watch out for people on bikes because they come up fast and out of nowhere. Be cautious of elderly and children, I did see lots of them struggling. Make sure to bring lots of water and snacks because the trail is pretty long. If you happen to not finish and turn back, the trail is a good practice for jogging downhill. Watch out for loose rocks and definitely wear good shoes.
Very diverse trail - started in Morrison Town Park and hiked about 9.5 miles with 1600 feet in elevation gain. Made a great loop - castle trail, meadow trail, tower trail, summer house and turkey trot back to the parking lot. Saw the Walker Home Ruins (my favorite - see pic below), Summer White House, the Tower and the Eagle Eye Shelter.
Great trails. Lots of choices eith variousl every of difficulty. Well-mark. Bring enough water and wear sunblock!
This place is my jam! Either trailhead is amazing for different reasons.
My boyfriend and I love this place. Great trails/hiking during any season! In the winter we use spike shoes to keep from slipping but it’s a blast. Great workout, some spots are steeper than others but overall a pretty easy trail! Great views of the Red Rocks Amphitheater as well. If you’re looking for a new trial you should consider Mount Falcon!
Great mountain bike trail! Tough climb. Great downhill!
Beautiful hike. My wife and I, along with our pup, parked in the East Trailhead lot, and we took the Castle Trail. On the return route, we took Turkey Trot. In all, pretty easy hike if you hike regularly. We saw quite a few people (of all ages) for a weekday, many folks with dogs, and some folks who were trail running. I’ll go again.
Excellent place not too far from Denver to feel like you’re getting away from it all. If you want a really steep hike and a good workout, start at the east entrance and hike up the hill to the west entrance. Or, drive up to the west parking area to hike around in the woods and fields and explore the ruins of an old castle built at the top of the hill. If you pay attention, there are beautiful pegmatites full of crystals scattered throughout the park.
Awesome trail and not too crowded in the mornings.
Ive hiked from forest/vine road trail-head to the top 7-10 times and each time I L O V E it! Just went up again this past weekend.Dont let the parking lot scare you, it can seem crowded at times, but once you get on the trail everyone is so spread out. I usually take turkey trot up as its more scenic.Ive visited the castle ruins 2x and found them interesting, but after that I just hike up for the views (and the workout!) and jog down. GREAT workout 6-7 miles with just under 1000ft elevation gain.
Get there early as it gets crowded. Good for pre work or post workday local hiking.
One of my favorites close to the city parks for hikes and taking visitors
An amazing hike. The scenery will blow you away no matter what time of day it is. We went at night and saw an amazing mountain sunset. I recommend it to all who love mountains and hiking.
Moderate trail with a interesting ruin at the top. Some great views.
Fun place close to red rocks to walk around and enjoy the view and outdoors. It gets busy on nice days so it’s best to go early if you like more nature and less people. If you are less acclimated with hiking there are lots of less strenuous walks. Great for family and dogs and views.
Scenic Mountain views beautiful area of Colorado great trails
Great place! Many places to sit inside and outside. Good food and drinks. Fun atmosphere.
Great hike for training. Good view on the way up. Turkey Trot is hiker only and lovely. Castle Trail is all sun and bikes - if you go early, fewer bikes. Not my fave hike but a good one
Popular trail, parking can be a challenge ~ worth the effort.
Hikers and trail runners should be aware that mountain bike traffic can be extremely heavy on the Castle Trail. Use the hikers-only Turkey Trot Trail to avoid bikers on the lower half of the Castle Trail if this concerns you. Go during the week if possible, or before 9am on summer weekends to get a good parking spot. The Castle Trail is a heavily-trafficked, multi-use single-track trail that provides a strenuous workout for hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. When starting from the east side trailhead youll gain roughly 1,600 over 3 miles between the parking lot and the castle ruins, and another 100 feet between the castle ruins and the west side parking lot. You can combine the Castle trail with the Meadow and Tower trails for a roughly 8-mile loop with over 2000 of vertical gain.
Mount falcon park is a great place to go hiking and is only 30-40 minutes outside of Denver. With two entrances to the park an East and a West entrance. The East entrance is a much harder hike with an attitude of around 1000 feet to hike, the West entrance there is very little altitude change only around 100 free and is a much easier hike. With breathtaking views and multiple paths to explore this is a great hike to enjoy in the summer or even the winter months. If entering the park from the West entrance this hike can be rated easy, if entering the park form the East entrance this hike is rated at moderate just because of the incline and altitude change. Overall this is a great hike and I would recommend it to anyone who wants an amazing view of the mountains but does not want to travel far from Denver.
Sunset run
What I thought would be a quick hour or two hike turned into a 5 hour bone tiring but very rewarding day.
Ive been to MT Falcon, What happens when you leave a giant tetherball in the forest swinging from a tree above a game trail. What Happens when you leave a Barrel Hanging in the Forest? What happens when you leave a tether ball in the forest.
Castle rock is very steep so if your first time like it was with me, be ready for those calfs to be on fire. But you got this. My first time was 2 hours and 30 minutes in bad shape.
Nice wife trails. Good maps. Bicycle tools available at the trail head.
It was an amazing place. Great for all the ages.
The trail is usually crowded with too many fast moving mountain bikes. That being said, its a great hike with amazing views.
Great trails!
Nice place to hike however not much shade on hot summer days
It was a good day to go
Nice trail. There is a loop that is about 3 miles long that is great for a trail run or quick hike. Beautiful view of red rocks.
This is a very beautiful park. The castle loop trail is really nice. I recommend arriving no later than 7am if you want to find parking. Any time after that is a nightmare.
This park is beautiful.Interesting story for those that love hiking in Colorado.A friend of mine invited me to hike with him in the afternoon hours on 6/6/2020 at Mount Falcon Park. I was hesitant around 1:30 that day, and requested he send me a photo of the weather in the nearby area. It was clear skies, so I agreed, made it to to the park around 2:30.In a case of miscommunication, my friend thought I was picking him up. He started to drive out that way, as I hiked around the beautiful park. I believe you can see Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the distance. It was amazing.Well, my friend calls around 3:30 and asks about the weather. I respond and say it is raining slightly. He and I both agree that it is best to call off the hike. As I am leaving the park an inland hurricane hits throughout the Denver region. While driving down the road I saw one of the most amazing pieces of nature occur. The wind was so powerful, along with the rain at a sideways angel, (have you ever been to Six Flags and seen the impact of the water of the Tidal Wave ride?). It was like that continuously for over a mile. I drove slow and safe during this intense storm. Made it home safely. I look forward to going back with less rain.
Amazing views with great, challenging hikes
Great place to gather with family and friends.
Every fresh view with conscience transparency clarity and nature with beauty.
Loved the views
Only hiked about 4 miles of it, but it was strenuous with all incline and barely any shade. Bring lots of water
Great hiki. Snow on the trail this time in the season
Challenging for some people not used to altitude, maybe. Worth the effort, though. Take a pic or grab a map at the trailhead of you like. The trails are well-marked, so you probably wont use the map, though. After leaving the Morrison trailhead and making some progress, stop along the path and look back to see downtown Denver and the airport (in the far distance). The wildlife and flowering plants are just as picturesque. Keep going for some nice pictures from the top. And be sure to make it to the castle. While its not hands on, it does add a touch of history and something interesting for all ages.Overall, its about a half-day well spent, travel to and from included. If you get there in the morning, you can still have time for activities afterward - if your energy allows.
Great hiking and bike trails; spectacular views in all directions. Spotless maintenence by Jefferson County.
Some of the best views!
Great hike right outside of Denver.
Beautiful and peaceful
I love it
Very beautiful views. Photo ops. Great hiking trails.
Uphill climb on a rocky path without much shade. Take water and go anyway!
Great place to explore
Wonderful cool trail. Somewhat of an uphill challenge to the castle so be prepared for that! Castle trail is NOT stroller friendly as I read on a different website.
Great hiking place!! Just make sure if youre not on a bike you stay off of the bike path..because they come pretty fast down the mountain...is a bit steep here and there..but great workout....gets pretty busy on weekend...possible rattlesnakes in this area..but we didnt see any..all in all enjoyable place with Red Rocks in the distance as part of your view 😉
Love the immensity and serenity of this park. Beautiful!!!
Easy to get to and nice scenic views
Two parking locations. The easiest to get to is on the Eastern side with the Turkey Trot trail the easier trail. The only one I would recommend with small children. The other good for fitness in adults. The western parking lot is great for weekends as its not as crowded. The trail is good for kids but the ride up has led to car sickness in those under 5.
Great place for a hike. Beautiful scenery.
