Worst indian cuisine in montreal. Food is stale and not tasty. I will never ever visit this place

This listing is older, but the location and phone # are the same as Dosa & Curries, which is what the sign at the location says its called. Ill post the same review here as I did in that other Google listing:This is easily among the greatest Indian restaurants in Montreal. Its location may be a touch hard to see from the street, but the staff is friendly and helpful, and the unique South-Indian menu features many items not found in typical Indian restaurants. The occasional Sri-Lankan dish like Kothu is there, but more importantly a large assortment of dosa (crepe) dishes, curries, and even a coupe of Indian-Chinese recipe hybrids (called Manchurian). The curry is sensational here, especially the lamb roast, and the Manchurian chicken is what Chinese food *should* be: a combination of sweet and spicy, cooked to perfection. The two soups they offer are also both unique and excellent. If you are put off by a slightly smaller curry selection than other Indian places, never mind that. The important thing is that everything here is excellent and incredibly spiced and flavorful.

First things first - they havent changed their name yet. They no more have a sign board for Madurai. Its called Dosas and curries. For a place called Dosas and curries, the Dosas were so inauthentic. We ordered 4 Dosas - Chettinad masala dosa, onion masala dosa, egg omlette dosa and channa masala dosa.1. The batter isnt fresh. Too granular and not suited for a dosa.2. The coconut chutney tasted stale.3. Wayyy too much masala (Im guessing chat/garam masala) in the channa dosa.We ordered 2 kalakkis. They werent on the menu and the staff was kind enough to make it but that had chat masala loaded as well. Took my parents for a birthday lunch and it was quite disappointing! There are other better options for South Indian food in Montreal.

We ordered chicken lollipops and we got about 11 really tiny lollipops. They were over fried so they were rubbery and chewy. Lollipops have to be soft and juicy from the inside and this was nothing like how it should be. The marinate was prolly good but them being fried for too long spoilt the whole experience. Plus they dont serve it with schezwan sauce!!! Thats just criminal! Chicken lollipops always have to be served with schezwan sauce ..its an jndo Chinese dish and thats how its supposed to be had so they gotta learn or get someone who knows to make proper chicken lollipops and schezwan sauce and then put it on their freakin menu

Dosa served fresh and sambar tasted exactly like Saravana Bhavan Sambar.Being a south indian i recommend this dosa to everyone.

Worst food I ever ate in this restaurant. This place is known for good, quality economic food, but in the past two months the quality had went down so badly. The hygiene was so poor, there were flies and eating cutlieries were stained. Wont go again, untill the customer service makes note to correct these problems. I thought chicken chukka was a speciality here, but to my surprise it was one of the bad. The chicken pieces in chicken butter masala were raw, hard. The dissatisfaction about the food was made to the lady there, and we received nothing than a smile. Seriously?

We ordered chicken lollipops..we got about 11pieces but they were really tiny pieces and over fried so they were chewy and rubbery. They need to fry it for lesser time so the chicken is softer and juicy. Also, they dont have schezwan sauce that is always served with lollipops in the indo Chinese cuisine. the pros were that it had some good marination spices that we could taste.

We were the only clients at this restaurant at noon on a Tuesday recently. The temperature was 30C plus and very humid but the air conditioning unit was not on. The place was a steamer!! There were altogether two kinds of chicken, four kinds of sauce, one dessert, dry fried onion, naan and rice. The jug of water was room temperature(kind of warm). The food is not great and the dining experience is not pleasant. There was no toilet paper until I asked for it and the used plates were never collected. The price is $12.97 before tax, you may say its inexpensive but there are other buffet places that cost similarly or less but a lot more choices of food. If this restaurant wants to survive, theyd better work hard on their variety and service. Definitely there will be no repeat visit from me.

I can classify this as close to South Indian mother’s cooking. The balance of spiciness was commensurate with the appropriate dish served. However, it did not burn a hole in our stomach.Service is good. Be prepared to wait a bit for the food as they are prepared and cooked fresh - so it’s worth the wait. There is no doubt that this wont be our last visit.

Wednesday Feb 12th visit: 5 varieties of Dosas can be chosen from 7.Very bad experience and service from the team.We entered the restaurant around 7PM, waited 45 minutes along with a kid to get a table and another 25 mins to get the menu. Later when we ordered the 5 varieties of Dosas, the lady appears to the table and says the BATTER got empty and we can order something else for the same price. We ordered few items and later the waiter comes and tells few items to be cancelled since it will exceed the normal price. In total we spent nearly 2 hours without getting food and the kid was about to cry.Experience:• Very poor management skills and no respect for the customers.• Very rude in talking and not cleanly environment.• If special offer is announced online, the management should make sure enough food and waiters are present during rush hours.• Communication gap is very high and should teach them how to provide a top-notch service to the customers?• Should teach them how they should approach the customers?

Really disappointed with the home delivery food quality. We have been to this restaurant twice food was amazing each time, so we decided to order food from online delivery service twice both time food sent was stale and bad quality. It’s the story of most of the Indian restaurants in Montreal they send stale food on online orders, which is very disappointing and pathetic. We were in Montreal over the weekend and wanted to find a good South Indian restaurant. The name Madurai and the better than average google rating quickly lured us in. We ordered a chicken briyani, chicken 65 and a chicken kothu roti. As much as we tried to like what was placed in front of us, we couldnt get past 3 or 4 bites. The chicken 65 was very hard and cut into larger than bite sized pieces. The chicken itself lacked flavour and was very stringy, felt odd. The briyani tasted like it was re-steamed from a previously cooked batch, because it was watery.. there was an overwhelming amount of fennel and cumin seeds and the chicken looked like it was cooked many days ago, hardened, quite dark on the edges and very rubbery. The chicken kothu had mostly chicken that was not tasty either. All in all, we felt we paid for nothing when we left. Anyhow, if the restaurant takes a little bit of care on what they are serving to customers in the name of the legendary Madurai city, they would have great food fans like us exclusively making a trip to it again.
