One of the oldest temples in Namakkal...its around 600 - 1000 yrs old...Its back entrance is straight away connected to Cauvery River as the Uttsavar(Asala Deepeswarar faces Cauvery) . A standing example of Classic Dravidian Architecture. Such a nice place to spend ur time peacefully.

Amazing temble

A nice and relatively old Siva temple on the Cauvery river bank located in a peaceful place. Well-maintained inside but not as much on the outside the temple premise. Usually not crowded except on festival days. People usually take bath in the Cauvery river before entering this temple but bath in river is not compulsory. During summer and noon times the stone and concrete floor around the sanctum will be very hot to walk on and can be little uncomfortable for some (cant wear footwear inside the temple).

Mohanur is a temple town in Namakkal district.Lord Shiva appears facing west and the Goddess facing east.The shrines are designed as such that the Lord and Goddess appear right to each.The belief is that devotees worshiping the lord after a dip in cauvery river would relieve him from the evil effects of previous births and would ensure longevity. Ayush homas are often conducted in the temple.Those aged 60 and 80 celebrate their birth days in the temple.Devotees perform special abishekam to Lord mother offering vastras. Lot of marriages happen here.People who are visiting the temple in the morning can spend lot of time in the river after the worship, plan for your food as you need to go near the bus terminus for hotels.Separate sannathi exists here for Ragu, Kethu and Sarabeshwarer. Offering tharpanam here for ancestors is considered very auspicious.During Amavasai there is huge crowd for performing rituals for our ancestors. Devara Vaippu Sthalam. Lord Siva is Suyambu Lingam.Lord murugan with Valli Deivanai Temple is just between Lord Siva and Ambal temple.As the temple is closely related to Deepa worship, a lamp is ever burning in Lords shrine.Hence, Lord is praised as Achala Deepeswar. Achalam means that not wavering and firm as a hill. As the Lord is in his meditation posture, the deepam too is motionless.Aadi Perukku and Karthigai Deepam are the main festivals celebrated. Years back water used to flow in cauvery till the foot steps of the temple backside during Aadi Perukku (Tamil month Aadi & date 18th).Now it is very rare to see such event it is because of, the more we damage the nature the more we suffer and the future generations would get impacted very badly.Few years back near this temple peopleused to take bath and wash their clothes daily now it is not happening because all sands has been taken.People who are unaware enter the river and lose their life, many such incidents has happened in past.Sand in river has to be protected else our future generations would hardly see it.Sri Kaliamman Temple and Sri Kalyana Prasanna Venkataramana Perumal temple are near to this temple.

Very important Hindu temple on the east bank of Kaveri in Mohanur. Separate sannathi exists here for Ragu, Kethu and Sarabeshwarer. Offering tharpanam here for ancestors is considered very auspicious. Be careful if you are taking a dip in the river. Its not safe!

Temple 🕉️ HistoryArulmigu Asaladeepeswarar Temple, Mohanur, NamakkalThis place is said to be the deposit of Thevara.The lamp that is lit in Thiruvannamalai during the month of Karthika is special. Similarly, the lamp mounted here on the first day of Karthikas Parani star is very special. Then a special anointing and pooja is performed for Swami.Bijavaba Maharishi, a devotee of Lord Shiva, used to serve Lord Shiva here with devotion to Lord Itala. He worshiped the star of Parani every Karthika month by lighting a lamp on the lamp post opposite the Swami Sannathi here. Based on this, the worship of Parani lamp is still special here.This sculpture of Maharishi is carved on a pillar in the temple hall.Shiva, self-consciously facing west. As it is a place of worship associated with fire, the lamp is always burning in his shrine. Swami is called Asaladeepeswarar because the lamp burns still. Original means immovable. Swami says that the lamp does not move because it is in the meditative sphere.Child Blessing Hope:Mother Madhukaraveni is in solitary confinement towards the east. The idol of Ivalatu is set in the same stone along with Thiruvatsi. When Murugan followed him to invite him to the hospital, this hopeful milk dripped in affection as soon as he saw Murugan in person. Hence she is called Madhukaraveni. A special puja is held for her every full moon. If those who are not blessed with a child at that time worship, it is believed that childbirth will occur.Initially, there was only a shrine to Lord Shiva at Italam. Kumarai, a woman devotee of Itala Shiva, made a living by selling yoghurt. She was not blessed with a child and came here to serve Lord Shiva. Every day the yoghurt is sold and the rest of the pot is used to worship Swami. Once she became pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. The villagers spoke ill of her. She is the only witness to the fact that she is Pathini, and she descended into the river Cauvery and merged into the river. From there Ambika got up and showed the people. She realized she had become a woman selling yogurt herself. After that, a private meeting was held for Ambal at Italam.Because Ambika lived here under the name of Kumarai. Ithalattu Ambika is known as Kumarai and Shiva as Kumariswarar.At this place, Lord Shiva is facing west and Ambal is facing east. Ithalam is set so that both Shiva and Ambika can be seen to the right of each other. It is rare to see such a system. There is a small panalingam near the source. The lingam is said to have been worshiped by Ambika who came as a woman selling yoghurt. Puja is performed simultaneously for the source and the panalingam. The Cauvery River near Italam flows from north to south like the Kasi. Swami gives the view as he sees Cauvery. A special puja is held for Swami Ambal during the Adiperukku. Lord Shiva is seen with Lord Valli and Goddess in the middle of the Ambal shrine.Goat Vehicle Durga:In the prakaram, Ganesha appears in the middle of the dragon. Nearby is Murugan. People with nagatosham worship this Ganesha with milk. Outside the temple there is another Ganesha under a neem tree. Unmarried women beg him to tie the knot. Kalabhairava has a private meeting. Waraki, Vaishnavi and Chamundi are also depicted as embossed on the wall. A special puja is held for the Bhairavs and Muthaviyas at the Tea Ashtami. Outside the temple is the Sarabheswarar shrine.On a stone in the vestibule of the Ambal Sanctum, there is an embossed sculpture of Sivadurga. Durgayaman, who killed Mahishasura, will be seen only with Mahishasura underfoot, in the Shiva shrine shrine. But she is on display with eight arms and a goat car in the back. Turkkaiyai

Aslam (lamp) - The lamp in the temple sanctum is always lit and burned. It is one of the few temples that are very close to the river. But enter the east gate only because the gate from the river is always closed.Very rarely, a rare statue of the goddess Darius, her son and Nandi, is found in the outer courtyard of the temple.
