My first time at the famous owl of Minerva. Always heard about here and it didn’t disappoint it. Restaurant is simple causal dining. Everything we had was excellent. Very tasty and rich in flavour. You get house kimchi, cucumbers and bean sprouts as starters. It was very good. The kimchi is strong but tasty and the cucumber and bean sprouts balance it nicely. Will visit again.

We got Chicken Dupbap and Bibimbap. They gave the food in plastic containers which may actually make the portion of our food smaller. The chicken DupBap was very delicious as the spiciness paired nice with the bell peppers and button mushrooms. The chicken was juicy and went nice with the egg. The bibimbap came with bibimbap sauce, a sauce that is reminiscent to that of ketchup but sweeter. The bibimbap was not that good as the seaweed, (shiitake) mushroom, bean sprout and other cold veggies in the dish were not satisfying to eat. Imagine eating a warm egg with warm beef mixed with cold vegetables… they should perhaps keep the vegetables for bibimbap at room temperature in advanced because it ruins the experience. Each dish was $14.99. They give you free side dishes if bean sprout, cucumber, and kimchi. The bean sprout and cucumber, cucumber especially, were nice however the kimchi was too sour and honestly disgusting. When you first arrive they ask if you want tea or water, now I don’t know what type of tea they have but it tasted not like green or black tea. Maybe it was turmeric I honestly don’t know. But they do give okay portions for the price. Now, the customer service is excellent, she was attentive to our table the whole time and was very nice. Near the end of us eating many people came inside to eat and she didn’t even seem to be under much stress, that is a good thing!

The food and atmosphere of the restaurant (when it is open) is great-- with the occasional subpar meal. In addition, the takeout option has been done excellently with sealed containers making it easy to keep the food warm and fresh on drives home. However, the service can sometimes leave a bit to be desired with standoffish staff and a resistance to correct mistakes in orders.

Disgraceful and dishonourable service. Ordered via Skip The Dishes. Received notification to pick up my order from a driver named Abigail. Go downstairs - no Abigail, no delivery. Called the restaurant - got told someone else took my order. Turns out Abigail doesnt ask for ID. Restaurant goes even further by saying not their issue - go contact Skip The Dishes. No apology no assurances theyll look into it. Just go figure it out. So lesson learned - avoid Abigail the Delivery Girl and avoid this restaurant. Whoevers enjoying my lunch right now...enjoy. :S What a disappointment.

The restaurant is super busy! We were there at 9 pm on a Friday night. The food was great. All of us were happy about it. The beef soup I had was so so I would say. It was not very tasteful. They left a small plate of salt on the table. I added some. I guess it’s not for me. The kimchi pizza was good and I am not a fan of kimchi. I recommend the famous owl of minera.

Awesome korean comfort food, try the Dubu Kimchi, tasty stir fried pork with kimchi on tofu. For a family of four, try the Jokbal, pork hock wrapped in vegetables with korean spices and generous servings of kimchi. Go-to place for good bulgogi and japchae noodles. As well, take out or delivery containers are amazing. Soups are kept hot or warm as the containers they use are properly sealed.

My boyfriend, family, family of family, friends and I are so dedicated to coming to this location of Owl of Minerva. Their food is always so delicious, our mouths water at the thought of it. The portions are all shareable between 2 people, the price is more than reasonable. Very authentic taste of Korean cuisine even the waitor/waitresses are Korean which is awesome. (I always thought it was strange if the genre of food didnt match the wait staff). Our all time favourites is Tteokbokki, Kamchatang, L.A Kalbi (Large), all the side dishes 😍 and Kalbitang. That is usally what we always order but we have tried many other items on the menu like bossam, jok bal, chapchae, spicy squid, sundae, everything is amazing. 100% reccomend everything 😊

Not sure what it is with this specific location but I’ve had two bad experiences with my order over the last 6 months. First one was with my pork bone soup order. It was very watery, little flavour. The second was just a long wait Outside the restaurant. There was little organization. Uber drivers just cut right to the front frustrating other customers waiting. In the end they mixed up my order after 1 hour wait. I won’t be returning. The other locations are great. I’ve just had terrible experiences with this one. The staff were great but I think they are just overwhelmed resulting in the poor quality experience.

I have been a loyal customer for a long time and always order Korean food from here. But today I had the worst customer service experience in my entire life!!! I tried to order a take out from this place and I am not Korean but I tried my best to pronounce the items from the menu. Of course, I didn’t get it right, instead of confirming the order with me, the staff raised her voice and keep telling me it is the location in Mississauga(which has nothing to do with my order), I then told her that I knew it and will pick up in that location. Finally after she correcting my pronunciation on every single dish I have ordered, she then ask for my phone number. While I was giving her my number, I missed a digit so I apologized and corrected myself multiple times. However, she didn’t listen to what I said and keep repeating the same number that I missed and gave up on me. When I arrived to pick up, she recognized my order and rolled her eye on me. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS STORE AGAIN!!!! So disrespectful staff!!!

We ordered the pork bone soup because it had been really good before but this time around the stock was very watery and not as rich in flavour as before and didn’t have much vegetables so my mom was upset because she had expected one thing and we had received another. We called to let them know and the person on the phone was incredibly rude and repeatedly cut us off saying “okay, okay” as if to shut us up and then proceeded to just end the call on my mom who was left very upset. I ended up calling on my own cell and I admit I was upset this time around but there was the exact same result as well. Case and point is that this store has rude staff and will not take responsibility for any mistake.

I had the most dried out pork Katsu ever made(worldwide since the dawn of time)!... It was so bad that it went to the bin.. At first I was excited with the portion size but since it was inedible it was just a waste of food.. Also it was a little weird to get kimchee with a Japanese dish ... Maybe the Korean dishes r good but I wont be going back there to try then.

Review №50

I want to preface by saying this IS certifiably my all-time favourite restaurant. It really isnt even close. Ive dined here more times than I can actually count. That being said, I apologise for the photos I have to accompany this review, theyre admittedly screengrabs from my Instagram stories, and not really up to par (but better than nothing). That being said, I want to discuss some of my favourite dishes. Lets jump right in!Pork bone soup (Gamjatang) - PBS : This is overall my favourite dish. Its a rich pork bone infused broth, with just the right amount of spice, slight sweetness, and topped with the unique taste of perilla seeds. In this heavenly bowl (along with the broth), youll find whole pieces of unbelievably tender pork [mostly still attached to the bone], potatoes, cabbage, and green onions. There isnt personally anything Id change about this dish.Korean grilled beef (Bulgogi): This dish comes out fiery hot on a sizzling cast-iron dish and is served with a generous portion of rice in a separate bowl. The meat itself is juicy, thin slices of beef accompanied by tiny pieces of vegetables such as mushrooms, broccoli, sweet peppers, green peppers, and rice cakes. Its very savory, with a hint of sweetness. Theres also a spicy variety available, which is equally as good, if not better.Sweet & sour pork (Tangsuyuk): My friend and I had this because it came in a combo with 4 beers for a reasonable price and we were having a night out. That being said, I wasnt absolutely crazy about it. It pretty much describes itself taste-wise, sweet and sour, but predominantly clawingly sweet. It also comes with large chunks of vegetables such as peppers, broccoli, etc... which maintain their crispness. The meat itself is a bit soggy but still very tasty all in all.Korean dumplings (Mandu): These tasty little morsels are an amazing appetizer or side dish. Theyre formed of thinly veiled dough and filled with an amazing mixture of juicy ground pork (beef is an option as well) and green onions. Theyre pan fried, so they have just the right amount of carmelization, and theyre served with vinegar (rice wine, I believe) to balance the fattiness. In short, incredible.LA Galbi (Korean BBQ short ribs): Theyre pretty self-explanatory in terms of what they are, served on a sizzling dish like the bulgogi, and marinated to perfection. Served with rice on the side, as one would expect with BBQ.I couldnt detect much sweetness to these, very savoury and smokey. So, smokey that if you order multiple, youll be surrounded by a bit of a cloud of smoke. These have the right amount of chewiness to tenderness ratio, not fall of the bone, but thats a good thing in this case. Every bite releases more and more flavour. One of the pricier items, but assuredly worth every penny.Ive had quite a few other dishes from here including (but not limited to): spicy rice cakes (Tteokbokki), stir fried spicy marinated pork (JeYukBokeum), steamed pork (BoSsam), etc... They were all delicious, I mainly detailed above the dishes Ive had multiple times on various occasions and felt I could really attest to.Everything here is served with banchan (small complimentary side dishes), including: Spicy cucumbers (Oi Muchim), soybean sprouts (Kongnamool), and salted/fermented vegetables (Kimchi). One thing to note is that while this place is open 24 hrs, theyre almost always packed. They have a simple ticketed number system, where theyll ask you how many people youre with and give you a number. Theyll eventually call your number and seat you. Theres also a minimum for Interac purchases, $20 I believe, but dont quote me on that. Id have to double check. Be sure to grab a couple guava candies on your way out, theyre in a little basket by the register.

Descent food with long hours. Good for when youre randomly feeling hungry at 4 am. I have to say that their Kimchi is disappointing and has the metallic taste I associate with lower quality Kimchi. Owl has a great variety of korean dishes that are quick to eat and really hit the spot. They lose stars for having poor customer service. We came in and there was a wait time to dine in. We were next in line to get a seat. Someone enters behind us and was given a seat before us. I had to remind them that we were waiting for a seat to get the seat. We ordered right away and patiently waited. I notice the people who sat in after us already had there food. The waitress comes over to us after 20 minutes to say that she didnt put our order in. Needless to say I was very disappointed with the service. The waitress seemed to know the people behind us so it felt like we were being ignored and were not a priority. Onnuri is easily my go to Korean restaurant because regardless of how busy they get, they just KNOW customer service. This isnt the only time either but this is the one I wanted to share.
