Hidden Perfect Dinner spot with kids!The American Swedish museum has creating a lovely space for kids to play in the courtyard with a cart full of Swedish toys. Adults can sit enjoy dinner, drinks, and dessert while watching the kiddos.I visit several Thursday evenings a year. And I love each and every dish. Our family favorites are the meatballs, egg salad, all of the desserts and the soups!

Loved the creative take on the bloody mary. Amazing color with the beet brine. The baby had fun playing with the toys in the outdoor play area. Great experience!

Delicious but relatively expensive for how much food you get. I highly recommend the swedish coffee though!

Fika is a wonderful café inside the American Swedish Institute. The menu is smaller, featuring artisan style Scandinavian foods. There is a great patio as an option if the weather is good. Fika is a great place, and we try stop by whenever were in the area. Everytime, the food has been fantastic! The chef is very helpful in identifying food allergens. The meals are a little pricey, but not bad for the type of authentic house made food you get. My favorite is the meatballs! Make sure to try some of the Danish rye bread!

A hidden gem of a place you don’t want to miss if you are a foodie and come to Minneapolis. All the food items are made on the premise including 3 types of delectable breads, scones, cardamom buns and danish like pastry. The entrees keep to the traditional Swedish fare exactly and are the next best place to actually having meals in Sweden! The soup was served hot and delicious with bursts of flavor. Breads are hearty and dense buttered and a faint flake salting really make them delectable! I also had the best Gravlax (cured salmon plate) I ever ate in the US! The salmon is cured in-house and served with little dabs of onion marmalade, deviled egg smear, beet sauce, capers, delectable fish eggs and fresh dill sprigs. They also had meatballs, beef stew among many other heavenly things. You have a party going on in your mouth the whole time. The plate was a work of art in itself. I spent extra time eating as to savor the Unadulterated flavors! I’ll go back every time I visit here. Wonderful way to taste the real true flavors of Sweden!

I had the shrimp bowl. A bowl of soup. It was excellent with lots of large shrimp. I was initially concerned that I may have to remove legs and/or antennas, but not the case. It came ready to and very good. Service was great as well. I should have taken a photo of the soup before I ate it. Try it. You wont regret it.

Excellent food. You feel like your body has been nourished after youve eaten here. Your palate has been dazzled also.

Gravlax with mustard seeds, capers, beets, and creme fraiche made for a good lunch after a visit to the museum. A quiet setting with friendly, helpful employees who quickly and thoroughly cleaned tables. All employees wore masks and the tables were well spaced. We will be back.

Delicious Gourmet Swedish Food - So good that it’s worth coming here even if you don’t visit the American Swedish Institute!

Beautiful authentic and delicious Swedish cuisine. Cardomom cream soda, asparagus cream soup and open faced smoked turkey sandwich.

A uniquely Swedish cafe within the SAI. The food presents itself as absolutely beautifully and is indicative of what contemporary Swedish cuisine looks and tastes like: fresh, simple, and light. Fika is a great place for a light Swedish brunch.

There are few places in the world that make modernist food good enough for the most sceptical critic AND traditional Swedish baked goods that rival my great-grandmothers recipes. Sköl to this incredible accomplishment! (And amazing customer service to boot!)

A very quiet little cafe that has amazing Nordic comfort foods. It is worth going to for lunch or a coffee break even if you dont visit the muesum.

When you get your Nordic-inspired food you think, Is this going to fill me up? Then once you finish your perfectly balanced, best-whatever-you-ordered-thing-youve-ever-had, you realize the portions are just right. The ambiance is of high-energy combined with the spirit of Fika (to pause) makes this a great stop on anyones Minneapolis tour.

Fika is one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities! I dream about the salmon smörgåsar (open faced sandwich on Danish rye bread). Their cocktails are innovative and delicious - definitely try the specialty aquavit cocktails! The atmosphere is bright and cheery. They also have a giant parking lot which makes it extra convenient. Great for a date or a family group.

A must if you visit the American Swedish Institute. A little bit pricey, but you will find some really nice typical swedish dishes. The salmon based ones are delicious, and the cardamom bread pudding was really good. They also have meatballs and a nice selection of wines

Ive lived in the area by the SAI for some time, and was glad that I finally got a chance to check it out!! That being said, I was impressed with how cute the dining area was, and appreciated the open flow design of everything. The tables are all white, and adds to the clean vibe. I ordered the Salmon open-faced sandwich, and my date ordered the Swedish meatballs. The meatballs were amazing! The sandwich was good too. My only issue was that the Salmon was far bigger than the slice of bread. I also wish they had more variety in bread. I wasnt a fan of the Rye bread. There were so many yummy looking items on the menu. I definitely plan on going back and giving them a try!

Very well prepared food at a good price. The menu is pretty short, but unique enough to be a treat. The room is a big and bright and busy atrium of the museum. Service is very good. The hours are also a bit unique, so check online. Lunch oriented. I think it is as good as the critics say it is.

Absolutely a great find. Stumbled upon this place on accident and I must say, I was amazed at the food and service. Truly impeccable!

I visited the museum with a senior group a while back. I decided to take them to lunch before a scheduled tour started. Ive had a good experience with my group before. On this day, however, it was a different experience. I had a few in my group who decided to seat themselves at a table they chose and before I could talk to them about needing to wait to be seated a staff person/waitress quickly moved over to them and scolded them for sitting there. She spoke quickly and in a demeaning tone and the guests didnt understand what they had done wrong. They were told to leave and go up to the podium to check in and wait to be seated. At another point there was a straggler from the group who had gone into the gift shop before eating. She came over to find a place to sit and after sitting down she was told to leave, to go to the front podium for check in, before she could be seated. This woman uses a walker and is unsteady and the fact that they made her walk all the way back to the front to then seat her by herself was disturbing to me.I was quite surprised by the service and the lack of compassion for those I brought who needed assistance or were compromised physically in some way.

The server suggested their BLT special and sold it well. It was even better than I expected from her excellent sell. Fresh made mayonnaise, thick cut pork belly, arugula salad, and a slice of heirloom tomato all on a thick slice of Danish rye. If they have it when you come, just get it.

Carrot soup was bright and delicious. Meatballs and juniper fennel sausage were excellent. Capped off with a cardamom bun. Great modern space with occasional chatter in Swedish within earshot. Staff were courteous and efficient. Worth a visit even if youre not Swedish or of Swedish heritage.

Great smørbrød or whatever Sweden calls it :) open faced salmon with tangy mustard sauce on almost-crisp rye bread. Very flavourful - ridiculously good sauce. A little on the pricier side for the fancy cafeteria experience, but the limited hours likely demand premium prices.I recommend heartily.

The food is phenomenal! Gorgeous presentation, so many interesting, well-thought-out flavors, and perfect portions. Be sure to try the Bloody Swede of youre a fan of Bloody Marys!

Tasty food, friendly service. We ate the cardamom roll and a fruit tart, (kolacky). Both were very good! The fruit on the kolacky tasted fresh and sweet. As refreshing as a pastry can be.

The service was dismal and the food WAY overpriced. I ordered the steelhead trout; the vegetables were great, but the trout was raw in the middle. I let the server know, and his response was, Yeah, its a little undercooked from our usual, but it should still be okay. The side of bread we ordered was dripping in butter (there was an oily pool under it), making it inedible. We mentioned that and the server just walked away without comment. The only bright spot was the house salad. The server did take half off the trout entree, which was appreciated, but that didnt make up for the rude service and poor quality of food.

Went on a Friday afternoon for lunch and service was good. Food was good and different from what I normally eat; Im not familiar with Swedish cuisine. Reasonably priced.

Interesting place. A bit pricey for the portions but its all unique eats. Im not really an eat at the restaurant in the museum kind of person, but I enjoyed my lunch here.Recommend coming here if youre visiting and want to try Swedish style food.

I give it a 2 star, since my fiancé and I waited 31 minutes for a Swedish ham and egg quiche. It was great, but we waited far too long for this. We sat there waiting and waiting, but no one ever came up to us. We want to go back for lunch, and give it one last try before deciding on this establishment. Until then, my review will remain at 2 stars!

Had lunch on 12-17. We each had a salad and gingerbread with tea. Food was tasty but portions were very small. After tip bill was over $50. Many people had to wait for 45-60 minutes.
