It is believed that that the image of yoga Narasimha swamy was installed by prahlada himself. Two ways to go to top hill either by walking of around 300+ steps or go by bike or car to some extent and from their by walk of around 150+ steps. A must visit place, be careful with monkeys. The Temple of Yoga Narasimha is situated at Melukote in Mandya District. It is 148 km from Bangalore, 39km form Mandya Town and 50 km from Mysore city. There are some direct buses going to Melukote from Bangalore via Mandya. But the best way to go is to by own car or hire a car since there are many places nearby one can see when going to Melukote. The temple is dedicated to one of the many incarnations of Lord Vishnu - Lord Narsimha Swamy. From very far on the way to Melkote one can see the Temple on the top of the hillock looking so fantastic. To go the temple one needs to cover hundreds of steps (some 300 steps). This is one of the most sacred temple for Hindus and one of the best attractions in Melukote. The fascinating and alluring temple situated on the top of the hill at a height of 1777 meters from sea level. It is not only very famous temple but its architectural beauty is also very impressive. The panoramic view of Melukote can be seen from the Temple. It is so beautiful around. The temple of Lord Narasimha is considered to be one of the seven holy centers. There are pujas happen there everyday. It is believed one of the ancient temples, and also said that it is the idol of Lord Narasimha was installed by none other than the Prahalada, the great, great devotee of Lord Vishnu himself. Photography inside the temple is prohibited. But having camera there is a must as the scenes from the temple around are just amazing. There are two ways to go to the temple, one is taking steps which is difficult for elderly people and one is a road where one can take their vehicles and reach exact near the temple itself. Still there are many steps from there also to reach the Temple. Timing are there for pujas. So go there but make sure you know the timing, reach on time or else you have to wait for long to offer puja. Once Darshan of Lord Narasimha is over still there few more temples one can visit. One full day one needs to see and enjoy the entire melukote. There are temples, Hills, Rocks, Ponds, Lakes and many more.

The Sri Yoga Narasimha Temple at Melukote is not just a sacred pilgrimage center but also an engineering and architectural marvel. Legend has it that the deity was installed by none other than Prahlada, son of the demon Hiranyaksahipu. The temple itself is perched precariously (seemingly!) on a hill. It is over 1000 years old, built by the prosperous Hoysala kingdom. While I would suggest one should climb the 300 steps, for those who are unable to navigate the entire length by foot there is a motorable road half way up the hill.

Our first visit to Tirunarayanapuram was in the year 1990. We came here from Mysore and were thrilled to be here. We stayed with our friends who accompanied us and guided us to the temples. In the evening we were taken to Narasimha temple on a hill. It was a long climb and we availed of the doli services for my mother-in-law. The climb was strenuous as there are almost 300 steps . The temple gopuram was imposing and the view provided from the top was spell-binding. Narasimha was in seated posture and the aradhakar swami splashed water on our faces which is supposed to remove fears of all kinds. This Perumal pratistai was done by Prahlada and has been endowed with ornaments and puja items by the maharaja of Mysore. We can never forget this Narasimha deva. The temple opens at about 10ish in the morning and it is a blessing to be here. Our next visit was in January 2008 and we went up in the morning at about 11.00 A.M.Proper road has been laid and we went half the way by car and then climbed about 170 steps, still a challenge but we managed with intermittent rests on the steps and had good darsan of Narasimha deva. The aradhakar swami told us about a robbery that took place and we felt that our temples needed more protection. He also told us that he performed pooja at Adivan Satakopans Brindavanam on the banks of Kalyani pushkarni and so his coming up was delayed on some days. It was a nice experience which we cherish .

A statue of Narasimha in a sitting posture with the Yogapatta can be found in the temple. The temple is considered one of the seven holy centers dedicated to Narasimha worship. Aside from the regular pujas, the temple conducts special pujas every year to celebrate the Narasimha Jayanthi festival. There are several stories about the shrine. One of the most common legends about the temple is that the deity Narasimhas idol was installed by Prahalada, Hiranyakashapus uncle.
