Very good place for vegetarian food. Little less spicy for people like me who likes spicy. Ambience is quite old as its very old and running from long time. Puliogare, curd sambar, and there condiments items are absolute worth.

Authentic brahamin food. Place is quite small amd needs some maintenance to be done. Food was tasty. Puliyogare and Pongal were really good. Chapathi was not that good. Puliyogare 40rs, Pongal 40rs, chapathi each 20rs. Pongal had two varieties with sugar and jaggery. They have shop in the front yard where you can buy snacks, sweets etc..

Puliyogare was tasty ,even bsleyelle lunch was good,you can buy masala powders and condiments ,taste is good.

Poulyogare was good but its the same taste which you get in most authentic places. Pongal was tastey but quantity was exiguous.I recommend this if you never tasted authentic food before.

They are serving here since decades & they have a limited menu. The highlight is ofcourse the Iyengar style puliyogare. The taste is unmatched, the service is good the price is reasonable & the legacy of Mr.Subanna is invincible! They do sell a certain packed products you could take home.P.S- this place was recommended by a biker friend whos traveled over all 7 continents. Hence this is a must try place.😉

Pricey... Puliyogare pack which costs 200 at other shops was sold at 300. The taste was not so good. Not sure about lunch, we did not have it. No parking... Due to publicity, the price of all items are a notch high...

Overall its a nice experience, homely feel and subbanna sir greeting every1 feels like attending some family function but food is bit overrated for me all the dishes were bit salt less but sugar pongal is the best pongal I have ever tasted in my life.

DONT GO DURING WEEKEND (SAT/SUN). Call and go to restaurant. We did the stupid thing.They have blocked the entire start point due to Covid. Does not make sense. Instead of shutting the temple and guarding the same, they have blocked the road 2KMs before the restaurant and templePoor business people around temple is suffering because of this stupid decision.

Best place to have bellad pongal

It was very near from the chaluvanarayana swamy temple. Its just 350 meters from there. We had our lunch there. Menu was good and tasty. Pulyogare, 3 types of bhaji, vegetable salad, papad, one type of sweet, butter milk, good quantity of white rice, one big chapati, sambar, rasam. Of you want anything else they will again serve you. Place is crowded usually. So first come first serve. We need to tell the total number of seats required so that they will arrange seats for them. Food was really tasty but quantity is very good. Per plate costs 100/-. It was brahmin mess. If you take extra rice or any item they will not charge separately.

If you are visiting Melukote during morning hours, Subbanna Mess is the best place to drop in for lunch. The food is traditional, authentic and delicious. You can shop for mango thokku pickle (the best one) and other tasty snacks that are not available anywhere else.

We had been there on a Friday for lunch. Food was okay except that the rice had not been cooked fully. It was almost half boiled (normally Brahmins prefer properly cooked rice only, though the mess claims to be a Brahmin Mess) making me feel that I should not develop stomach related issues due to indigestion.( Tha’s why I have given only 3 out of 5). Otherwise food was okay. Except the owner all other boys were very courteous.

This Mess is an authentic Aiyengar Brahmin food place. You can savor traditional puliogare, sweet pongal, kadamba and so on...The list goes... The taste is awesome. Worth the money spent. You also can have lunch here. The staunch foodies must challenge themselves with full and special meal. They have a small condiments shop to buy ayengar special snacks, pickles, puliogare paste etc. The mess premise is small and needs bit cleanliness. Overall a good place for food in Melukote.

Great place to head to for a breakfast ride. The roads to Melkote village where Subbanna mess is located are simply some of the best motorcycling stretches in Karnataka. The food at Subbanna Mess was homely, fresh and hygienic and hit the spot. What more can you ask for after a long bike ride. Spend a while having a looksy at the temple and the village if you have the time and try not to be an obnoxious tourist or biker. Some great places for photos are also to be found in and around the vicinity.

Overrated and overhyped mess. We visited this mess after watching over TV. However, its waste of money as we travelled just to have lunch here. The sugar pongal is only worth here everything else is very average and not good place to have lunch...too crowded for average food.
