Great place on Collins street for delicious food, relaxing milieu and very pleasant service. The Lobster Termidor was delicious and the seafood platter really satisfied our taste buds.The owner Adrian was very attentive and kind,suggesting the best of the day and seafood specialties as well as offering a complimentary limoncello at the end of the meal.He surely contributed to the great food experience in his restaurant.I would recommend to check this place out if you are in the CBD and you are a seafood lover.;) We would definitely go back again.

Outrageously poor!I don’t even know where to start. Let’s start with the WAITING.Reservation was at 7.30, entrees arrived at 9.05. Mains were served 9.35 for 3 out of 5 of us and the other two got their food 15 minutes after us. No food is good enough to wait this long.THE FOOD. Overall the food is probably a 3/5. But the inconsistency of everything makes it impossible to even judge if the food is good or not.Pic no1, saucy was to overpowering, taking over everything on the plate.Pic no3, on the specials menu and very rich in crayfish which was awesome. But it was supposed to have saffron in it and there was not even a hint of it.Pic no7, was not even cooked, it was just warmed and did not taste anything like it has previously done (according to the guest that ordered them and been there twice before).At this point I stopped taking pictures of the rest of the food due to my patients running out with this place which I will explain in a bit. The last plates to come out were prawn dishes. We asked how many prawns came with the Main size, as suppose to entree size and we were told that is was 10 prawns. 6 prawns were on each plate and one of the plates was served without rice. apparently they ran out of rice in the kitchen. We had to notice and figure that out ourself and no compensation was even offered for the lack of rice... not even bread was offered.That is enough about the food, average.THE SERVICE. This is we’re it gets really bad. The waitress was kind and polite, nothing bad to say about her. The manager though, is rude and could not care less about its customers unless they are his friends. 5 other tables were seated after us and they all had food and payed before we had even received all our food. But the only ones to leave with a smile and without complains were the couple that seemed to be friend with the manager. We asked about our food twice before asking for the manager and when he came to us he was brushing it of and offered us a bottle of champagne, even though 2 of us were not even drinking alcohol. We were offered to have olives as we wait, assuming that they were complimentary due to waiting for SO LONG but we were charged for those. After receiving half the mains and still waiting for the rest (with the restaurant half empty) we asked to speak to him again and I was furious about how rude he is and not apologetic at all about anything that was going on with our visit there. We didn’t know what to say to him to realise that this experience needs some sort of compensation or complimentary SOMETHING to at least feel like it was worth the wait. So we proposed to have our entrees deducted from the bill and his response was “I like your style” with a smirk on his face that not even bleach could get rid off. Instead of managing the situation, he was only making it worse and he could not care less.In all honestly I would go back to give the food another chance, due to what I have heard. But I will never recommend anyone to go there or go back there again due to the service we received from the manager and the lack of even remedying an escalated situation from patrons that were willing to be understanding due to circumstances.

This was my first time at box seafood and had a lovely experience. the food came very quickly and it was perfect for pre theatre. however, when emailing beforehand asking about dietary requirements we found the staff to be a bit cold and unhelpful, as we had to prompt them a few times over email to find a dish that would work. pictured is the mushroom risotto and it was a very large portion and very filling which is great. the service could have been a bit better as staff seemed a little preoccupied however we enjoyed our night.

Australian Lobster to die for !!! Delicious food, friendly staff and the owner is very welcoming... this place has everything you want and need when it comes to a great night out.My husband and I have eaten seafood in some of the most finest restaurants around the world and the seafood here is exceptional.This place really does tick all the boxes including the fact that they support our Australian fisherman and farmers. Great location in the CBD on Collins, with a very small front that’s easy to miss. The atmosphere in the narrow but deep dining room is simple and pleasant. The menu is extensive, not surprisingly focusing on seafood.The service was good, but not remarkable. The food, however, was a bit hit-and-miss. I tried oysters served 3 ways: thermidor, kilpatrick, and beer battered. All were excellent. Unfortunately, the next course of ‘crispy soft shell crabs’ was disappointing. They were not crispy, but a bit doughy, and tasteless. It seemed as if the oil they were fried in wasn’t hot enough, and then they sat too long before being served. The main of Morton bay bugs was better. The bugs were well prepared and delicious. However, I’d suggest a preparation other than pan seared with garlic, ginger chilli and spring onion. It was very tasty, but the flavour of the bugs was lost.Overall recommended if you are in the neighbourhood looking for some good seafood.

Was looking forward to eating here as I had heard good things. Turns out it’s not a very professionally run establishment. Food was average and not what was ordered. Sorry for 1 star but that’s even too much.

I got food poisoning from this restaurant. Woke up with vomitting and diarrhoea was from the off mussels. Called to let the manager Adrian know and he said ‘you shouldn’t of eaten here if you couldn’t afford’ very messed up.Adrian you have been reported to Vic health for investigation. In reply to your response you rudely hung up on my partner Nathalie after your rude comments. we will not be engaging in contact with you directly again.If other people experienced a similar experience from this restaurant please report it!!

Third time at Box, previous visits lovely, this time a disaster. Recommended to friends about the great food, organised for 5 of us to have a lovely seafood meal. Well......waiting 1 and 1/2 hours for entree, oysters and saganaki could tell the Kilpatrick oysters had barely been heated through...mains nearly 3 hours after ordering... my morton bay bugs were overpowered by the ginger, chilli, garlic sauce, main prawns dish turned up with only 6 prawns and no rice. Risottos were bland.Complained to manager told they had run out of prawns and rice and kitchen had been to busy with customers ordering lobsters!!We complained and didnt end up paying for entrees...Will not be going back.

We discovered Box Seafood restaurant online and as it is adjacent to the Regent Theatre was a perfect choice for an early dinner. Staff are friendly and helpful and were happy to offer suggestions when asked. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot seafood platter, which we could not finish. A wide variety of small, tasty and well prepared dishes including oysters, scallops, fish, crab and bugs made for an enjoyable experience. Would highly recommend.

The ponzu oysters are some of the best I’ve ever had. Had a dozen and ended up ordering another dozen before our meal even came out. Good service and awesome atmosphere.

Came in for our anniversary dinner & was very excited. Was greeted with a frozen distasteful atmosphere and seated in the direction of the draft. No heating nor did they close the main door when requested several times. My partner asked the manager to turn on the heating and he rudely pointed to my partner’s jacket and said “put your coat on then” then got the empty water glass bottle and stormed off.. The pasta is store bought (NOT FRESHLY MADE). The Scotch Filet was raw instead of medium. My coconut battered prawns were deep fried for too long and weren’t golden and were extremely dry. Only the female waitress was nice, the male manager was rude and couldn’t take criticism on honest feedback of food... SAVE YOUR MONEY!! OVER PRICED FOR POOR QUALITY!!

No trip to Melbourne can be complete without a trip to this absolute gem of a restaurant. If you want to end your day on a high note, this is certainly the place for you. My daughter who is not that keen on seafood was a total convert by the end of the evening. The menu isnt limited to just seafood and there is something for every palate. The owner, Adrian goes the extra mile to ensure that the guests are well looked after and his palpable passion for food is obvious in every delectable dish. They believe in service with a smile and you cant help but leave the restaurant smiling.

This was a great find. We had different dishes: one had mussels followed by fish and chips and the other coconut crumbed king prawns followed by Moreton Bay bug tails done mornay style. All dishes were delicious. The service was also excellent, attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely go back

Box of love and friendly staff love the place

Saturday evening always busy, but we found this restaurant and we decided to try it. Even thought they were busy because of the show at the Regent Theatre, they were very attentive and accommodating. The food was great and the portions reasonable. We had an entree to share and a main each. Food was well-cooked and very tasty. For wine we got a very good recommendation to match our seafood main for our waitress. We finished off with a dessert and a coffee. In general, great experience and for sure we will be back. Highly recommended.

Overpriced tourist trap. Our $400 lobster mornay was unevenly cooked, some parts hot and some cold. Service could have been better.We asked the waitress if we could eat anymore of the lobster than the flesh they had cut up, the answer was no. We quizzed her a bit more as we know there is flesh you can eat in the legs. She then replied Only the Chinese eat those parts!.Further to the restaurants reply - of course we ate it all. Who wouldnt at $400! Wed rather not send it back to the kitchen to have it reheated in the oven.Lastly, Id like to make it clear that we DID NOT ask for a discount! We in fact said to her when complaining We are not asking for a discount but wed appreciate it if you gave the kitchen the feedback.So thank you for your reply Box Seafood but next time please ensure you tell the truth.

We had a company XMas yearly dinner last night....the customer service all around quite good...however,we had been waiting for about 1.5 hour to get our main food.....7 of us shared seafood platters...all taste just average

The hot seafood platter was very disappointing. The mussels tasted off but the chef claimed it was the salty water. Everything was overcooked and masked with sauces. They werent very apologetic when we gave the feedback. The food used to be great but not on this occasion.

Predominantly seafood restaurant. Food is very delicious and ambiance is great. Highly recommended as a romantic or cozy place. Has the advantage of being close to Melbourne CBD. Service was excellent, was served by an Indian lady, other staff kept visiting the table which adds to the quality of this fine dining restaurant.

Fresh,clean,tasty,lovely atmosphere and not a whole lot too expensive. I suppose that is City dining.... Otherwise really good.

Fantastic shared platter, which is frankly the only thing thats even close to decent value. A la carte seems very expensive, but get that platter and youve got all the best dishes for a really good price. Smallish wine menu which isnt incredibly appealing. We had the Yarra pinot noir which seemed pretty good value to me.

We have always had a great experience here. We know the prices and we are happy to pay the money for such beautiful and tasty food! We have never had a problem, service is great! We usually come very late at night ie: 9pm or ever 9:30pm and they are always happy to stay open for us! Going to the BOX this Saturday at an earlier time (which will be different for us) but I bet it will be just as good!

Stumbled across this cozy restaurant in the heart of Melbourne. Great hospitality and food is second to none. We had the Barraundi, bugs and prawns which were so tasty. We will see you again soon Box on Collins. thank you for a great dinner.

Terrible. Dont waste your money or time eating here. The fish was all undercooked, the scallops were overcooked, and sauces were rather flavorless. The menu in general was unbalanced in that some dishes came with sides, but others (the majority I think) did not, so ordering a side for the table was awkward. Even the bread was uninspired and over-priced. Slow service capped off the evening. The best thing about the place was the cool painting of a lobster hanging in the entrance. We then went somewhere else to get something edible.

Unfortunately didnt enjoy our experience at Box Seafood. Cold atmosphere, overpriced average food, staff were friendly but extremely pushy and incoherent (once our risotto and pasta dishes were served, our waitress asked if we would like hot chips...).

I was on the hunt for great seafood, and THATS EXACTLY WHAT I GOT! My husband and I really enjoyed the style of the restaurant, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly! We had the crayfish (must have!), seafood platter (amazing oysters Kilpatrick! Battered bugs were THE BEST IVE EVER HAD), and the delicious, chocolate brownie for dessert. I will definitely be going back again. Great job, Box!

Great service and food, yet comes at a price $$$

The food was excellent. Prawn spring rolls and Chilli Prawns for Entree and both were excellent. The Lobster Thermador and Garlic lobster were fabulous. The service was excellent and the recommendations on the menu were spot on. Very nice wines at a reasonable price and desserts were excellent. Will be going back again...

My husband and I went to the box resteraunt last night and had one of the most pleasant dining experiences. We ordered SO much food and almost everything was delicious! The lobster was amazing, and the mortan bay bugs are also amazing. Soft shell crabs - also amazing. Ive only given 4 stars because the mussels were average, the garlic bread was ordinary and the cocktails werent very varied. The service was exceptional, felt very welcomed and appreciated!Overall was very enjoyable and definitely recommend!

This seafood restaurant in melbourne cbs is worth to be five star rating. This is probably one of the best seafood restaurants I ever had that delivers fine seafood that cooked beautifully at the modern western way. Both elder and younger ages in my group were satisfied over the food quality and the service provided.
