Horrible place to study. Especially in the business field. People who are not even teachers think they know better than teachers and could mark better when they clearly cannot. Horrible service to each and every student. Although universities typically do not care about students, RMIT cares the least. They are a money grabbing scam and should be allowed to continue as a place of education. I highly suggest you do not choose this university

As a lecturer in undergraduate marketing and post graduate MBA programs, a past student and mentor, I have quite a bit of the university. It seems students have a hard time with support here. I wish that were different. I can only speak from my experience and as a teacher I try my best to support the students. All of my colleagues do the same. We do care and try to help them learn and develop. It has great facilities and there is potential to do well, but being so big you can also get lost here. I recommend asking your tutors for support and fellow students. If you do, you will get the best out of your time.

One of the most disappointing experiences I have been through. Firstly, they took over 10 weeks to verify my identity even with repeat follow up emails and promises of it getting done soon (which it wasnt). Then once I joined the course in photography, the things they where teaching was outdated, and poorly taught. Not a fault of the teachers, but a fault in the education being provided. They do not care about the education of the students, just money. They have great services and a wonderful campus location, If only they cared about the curriculum and taught students things that would be useful to them.

Spent 3 weeks waiting for a course to get cancelled over and over again, the staff refused to answer any questions on how their website works over the phone, complained about the state government and wasted my time. I lost an apprenticeship I had lined up thanks to the sheer disorganisation that RMIT has. Even if you did VCE they make you do a literacy and numeracy test that is filled with classic left-wing focused questions, Im a lefty and I find the waste of my time offensive. This place was good, it is awful now, I hope you people get swallowed by the recession, youre not the working class and youre not better than us.

I am a graduate student in my second year here. I have had some great lecturers and very interesting subjects, but dealing with RMIT is absolutely the worst experience I have ever had. They dont care about students or their wellbeing; there is 0 flexibility to assist students even during COVID; RMIT Connect is useless - I waited an hour in the queue only to learn there is nothing they can do to assist me. Additionally, there is a number of compulsory subjects for the program I am in that are really easy and boring. I feel like the money I am paying for these subjects is wasted, because I barely learn anything new.

I have completed 15 units with this university. I would only recommend about 4 or 5 of them to others because they were actually well designed, provided quality study materials and good instructor support for students. The rest of the units were mediocre to poor and didnt meet the requirements of todays job market. It felt like they were provided by those who didnt actually care about teaching their subjects.Once RMIT gets your money, the service becomes terrible and you no longer warrant any of their attention. This is illustrated by how long it takes to get through to their new enrollments and support for existing students respectively on the phone:I made several unsuccessful attempts to get through to the student support yesterday, with announced wait times of over an hour, and the calls just got disconnected after 15 to 25 minutes.Today I waited on the phone for an hour and twenty minutes to finally speak to somebody in the student support, and the person was rude and actually hung up on me after I suggested that she focus on my query because I waited for that long, saying Im not going to assist you and just dropping the call! When I rang back, I chose new enrollments and got through in 2 minutes. So they are nice to you before you hand over your money and completely ignore you once they got it.

DO NOT BOTHER, not worth the hassle. I wasted 3,5 years for an X RAY degree I DID NOT OBTAIN a few years back. The course was outdated and we were not taught practicals properly. I was always sent to MIA radiology clinics with bad reviews to be set up for failure. Local Lecturers were racist towards students with an Indian background. I think lecturers are pressured to fail a few International students to obtain more money. I was NOT an International student and I am NOT from India but the racist ITALIAN Australian lecturer would not accept it because I did not grow up here or have the Australian accent. This is a migrant country, so people need to be educated on that. Lecturers would not take student concerns seriously. I encountered bullying and racism as well as my assessments were not done on those placements but the racist ITALIAN Australian lecturer name started with R would not hear of it and EXCLUDED me from the course, this is a trap because they want students to come back to pay more money, so she knew what she was doing, but it was racism of course. The course was run like a business than an educational facility as most students in my class were White and Oriental with few Brown skinned people. They looked at students names because there were Sri Lankans and Egyptians of Brown skin in my class and the White Female staff were fond of them, it was just Indians they disliked. I am upset because there was favouritism and bias because when I complained about racism on my placements, this ITALIAN Australian coordinator/lecturer told me that it was a serious statement to make, now I originally came from a Western country where people of colour were oppressed like myself and denied opportunities such as education, so I know what racism is. The course was also dodgy because an elderly female student in my class who was struggling in the beginning said that we got the same test questions as another UNI offering the same course every semester, she circulated the questions but I did not give me, although it would be an ethical issue for me, so who knows how many students passed simply because of that. This lady graduated and I found out that a few students lost their internship upon graduating because they did not know how to use the old system for taking X-rays, they had to wait the following year for another one. I now have a huge HECS debt and had to study something else, I have been UNEMPLOYED for 6 years, thanks to this horrible UNI who does not care about students futures. So basically I was scammed out of money. The department restructured after I left with new staff and is now a 4 year degree, this ITALIAN Australian lecturer is now working as an MRI Tech at the Austin Florey, she also embarrassed me in front of another lecturer still working in industry by having her sit in on our conversation for my second failure. A horrible and racist UNI, wish I read the reviews before coming here. Do not bother making complaints, nothing gets done, lecturers still keep their jobs and they still send students to those horrible clinics for placements because there is not enough clinical placements.More info: Studying here was most stressful, I would really have liked to work as an X-Ray Tech, they were happy to take the money but treated me badly. I am >39 years old and this was a career change, thanks to this racist ITALIAN lecturer, I have not been able to see my elderly parents for 6 years back in my native country because I need money to do so. Do not study here, lecturers pick and choose who they consider local and foreign, I am an Australian Citizen but always have to prove this. The way I was treated at this UNI and on placements would not be tolerated where I am from. They also play the blame game on students. I studied something else because I did not know what to do and I am struggling for a job. If you value yourselves do not study here.

I think the experience differs depending on the program you choose to enroll in. Although the infrastructure and the easy access to the facilities are certainly a pro, the disorganization is unbelievable. Most of the lecturers were really nice and supportive, especially throughout the pandemic season. A minority on the other hand were unexplainably unprofessional and biased. One thing that’s often left out by education agencies is the fact that once they issue a student visa based on an educational package (diploma+bachelors), even if the university cancels your CoE before the program starts (e.g. IELTS validity date expired), you’ll be required to apply for a release letter. Or else, they’ll just put a block in your name to make it impossible for other universities to issue another CoE.The process of getting a release is not easy. It often takes such a long time and has minimal success rates.Escalators and elevators in some buildings barely work. So expect to climb those stairs in building 56/57.Opportunity wise, most times, you’ll get a second attempt for each written assignment/ exam or practical so it would be less likely to fail.

However the university scalps you with exorbitant prices, no amenities and the use of student spaces for private events.Studying at this university is a constant slap in the face as they charge student fees and then dont follow up with the resources you have paid for. They dont explain tasks properly and have the nerve to fail you and try and make you out to be a bad student rather than admit their failings and laziness as educators.
