In general I favor small hardware stores. I just checked the hours posted on their website (8 am to 7 pm!) and drove over at 5:15 to find it closed. I don’t have a problem with their choice of hours, but please don’t mislead folks with an out-of-date listing of your hours.
A great hardware store in downtown McLean Having pretty much everything you need.. Its nice to see a Hometown hardware store not one of the big Box hardware stores
This local hardware store has the best customer service imaginable. I walked in for the first time 2 weeks ago to rent a carpet cleaner and was greeted immediately by an associate, while they went off to find what I needed someone else came by to ask if I had been helped. After checkout an associate offered to carry the machine to the car for me. I will definitely shop here instead of home depot whenever possible. I only wish their hours were more convenient as they close at 5pm.
Friendly staff. It had this quaint mom and pop store vibe. I didnt find everything i was looking for (regular size ratchet handle) but found something i didnt know existed, a 2 in 1 stubby ratchet handle. I wouldve looked around more if I had the time.
Very helpful. Knows their products.
I love this store. They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and help with all sorts of requests. This place is a gem.
Staff would greet you and answer your questions once you walk in. Excellent customer service. And they make keys for much cheaper than other places.
Great hardware start. Extremely large selection of items. Service was top line. If you want a friendly hardware store with helpful staff this should be your first and only option.
Great local hardware store with decent selection and great and knowledgeable staff
Great little store. One star docked for not opening until 9 AM on weekdays. Im often forced elsewhere because of the hours.
It’s a small local business with great service. More importantly, they hire local teenagers and teach them work ethics. Prices are just a tad higher than at big retailers. Please support this business so that they continue supporting our community
Very friendly and helpful staff. They usually have everything Im looking for
I had the distinct honor of speaking to Debra a short time ago this morning! She could not have been more courteous and helpful if she tried! Purchased Christmas ornaments over the phone. The remaining staff is just as helpful each time i have visited.! Regards,Joe
They always have something I need or want and I love how you have someone waiting to help you as soon as you step foot inside. 16 or 60 they know the store and products well. Very happy long time customer.
Great little hardware store. Much more personable than the big box stores. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Bought a Weber grill. Price was very consistent with Amazon and other sites. For an additional $30 they assembled my grill, and for another $30 they delivered the next day. Doug and Danny Jr. were very helpful. They carried my new grill through some narrow doors and up stairs onto my deck. They then carried my old grill off the deck for me. I am extremely happy.
Tim was super helpful. I really appreciate the willingness to help from everyone there when specialty shops are concerned about giving out free advice.
Have had a fantastic experience every time I come here. The staff is super helpful, and although its not the size of HD or Lowes, they are always able to find exactly what I need (usually some exotic piece of hardware). Support your local hardware store - these guys are great!!
Great selection of old-school hardware store items. Pretty limited open hours however.
Always helpful staff.
They are fantastic. The staff is always helpful.
They knew exactly what I needed to replace the regulator on my old Weber grill and found all the parts, including special fittings, for me.
Always find what I need
I’ve been a customer of McLean Hardware for decades. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. The other day Douglas went above and beyond by going out in the rain to remove the license plate off my car. So kind. Thank you!
I have been a resident of McLean for over a decade and I am a very Senior Citizen. And I shop there all the time - I do not go to big box stores...-I want to compliment the entire Team - for your time and your patience and your smiles!!!You are the BEST!Merci
So friendly and knowledgeable!
Will never change stores like McLean Hardware with other places. I mean I do forced to go to HD when they dont have what I need, but they will always be the first stop. The help you get here worth more than anything.
When Home Depot didnt stock the key blank that I needed, McLean Hardware did. They provided great service, much better than the big box chain stores. Shop small for better service.
Helpful people in an old fashioned hardware store.
McLean Hardware Store is our go-to places for supplies and making keys for our real estate business. Top notch service, trusted, friendly and helpful staff. Karen Briscoe, HBC Group Principal
This is a nice family hardware store. You will be greeted at the door. The owner works at the store. The atmosphere is nice. The prices are a little on the high side. But they’re still reasonable. The store is clean. Overall a very nice family run hardware run hardware store.
Far more expensive than a big-box, but a friendly local hardware store that probably has the one thing you need to finish a project without the hassles. Also a Stihl dealer, so they have all the parts, accessories, and service available if you have invested in that brand. A fun, old-fashioned hardware store worth a visit.
This hardware store been around for a very long time. They use to be on Old Dominion and moved here. They still are very helpful and things may cost a little more then the bigger company but you do not have to drive to those areas and deal with all of the people. Isnt all about convenience plus they have wonderful restaurants on either side of them and ABC store what else can you ask for!
This was a nice, small, family-run hardware store. This is the kind you dont see very often anymore, and the owner actually works there. All the staff were young but exceedingly energetic and very helpful. Was nice to see people who seem to really like what they were doing. I was able to get nearly everything I needed for my weird list of items, and everything was reasonably priced. If youre tired of the Big Chain stores, this is a terrific one to go to, well worth the trip.
The most selection and most space around for independent hardware stores. Its notable that they carry an alternate line of bulk hardware/screws/bolts than other stores, which can be very helpful if you need specialized items. Lots of choices here.
Its close by to most of the job sites that have a fairly good selection
Well provisioned, great service. Love our local store!
It might be hard to imagine a small town hardware store atmosphere just minutes from the nations capital. No need to imagine, this is the real thing. Always people waiting at the front to greet you and assist with whatever you need. Whenever possible, I try here first before going to a big box stores or online. Most of the time, they have what I need so I can keep my dollars in the local economy.
Great service! Good folks.
What a fantastic trip to McLean Hardware today! I was greeted at the door and asked if I needed any help by a gentleman named Dana. He promptly escorted me back to the items that I was looking for. Seeing a I was in a rush, this was a perfect solution for me. As I was leaving, another set of items in the store caught my eye, and a gentleman named Mark came by asking if I needed help making a decision on them. He talked me through the various options and helped me find what worked best for the problem I described. The store definitely had the feeling of a local hardware store that is built through the community, by the community, for the community. I will shop there again ASAP!
They have pretty much anything and everything you need unless youre looking for specialty parts. Super friendly staff and just an awesome place to be.
Store has everything (really, everything) and an extremely helpful staff.
Awesome service. Very helpful.
This is a great place, period. There arent many independent merchandisers of any kind left but MH goes way beyond that. You cant help noticing that they hire young people, which is unquestionably a great thing. And so, service is exceptional. Thats nice, but when youre in a hurry, thats critically important -- and wonderful. (Good luck getting that at Lo----s or Ho-- De---.) And dont be fooled by the size of the store... Sure, they have all the basic stuff but shelves are packed with goodies you just cant find anywhere else (except online.) So if you need a toilet plunger or a bag of soil, get it here, even if it costs 10% more than at the big box store. 10 years from now, youll be happy you helped keep this local institution alive. And if you need hard-to-find parts like the e-clips and axle collars I just bought, this is truly the only place!
McLean Hardware has just about anything you might need. Family atmosphere among employees and great service.
One of the best Hardware stores in No.Va, and deserving of its stellar reputation. Staff is super friendly and helpful.
Wonderful service, wide selection. Easy to get in and out of. Love my local hardware store.
Great neighborhood store, yhey have pretty much anything youd need for basic house repairs. The best part about it is the staff. Everyone is so nice and really helpful. Big shout out to Doug who helped me today!
Great friendly service, supportive of local businesses
I have loved McLean Hardware for over 30 years. It is a special place, where you are always greeted by a friendly employee as soon as you enter, who offers to help you find whatever you need. They have always gone above and beyond great customer, often fixing or replacing things for free. If I ever move away from McLean, this will be the store I miss the most. Plus I appreciate the way they give many teenagers the chance to work there and learn. Thanks McLean Hardware!
The folks here were very helpful when I stopped by today. I needed some lumber for a craft project, and they were willing to cut all of my boards to the correct lengths. The wood quality looks good too, so Im excited to get started with the project. Ill be back when I need more tools/supplies.
Love going to McLean hardware. The staff is always very responsive and eager to help. 90% of the time they have what I need with out having to visit a bog bx store. Purchased a Weber grill and less than 24 hours after purchase it was delivered and set up at my home. Great service, Great people
I love these guys! They are very friendly and helpful. Ive yet to find anything that I didnt need - which is their motto and true. Im sure that theres something that they lack, but they will be my first stop. Great to have a local hardware store with knowledgeable staff.
Its a wonderful place with everything and very helpful people... Worth going to.
Has the feel of a classic mom/pop store. The help is valuable and easy to find (usually asked right as you enter the store).
Not sure what got into Tom Boner, but I am guessing that his is a malicious review, because he has obviously never been to this store. We have been shopping here since 1987 and they are wonderful. There is always someone ready to help you. I have never been disappointed with their selection. The same cant be said of trips to Home Depot. The store isnt that close, so again not sure what Tom was referring to.The prices here are very competitive. I highly recommend this long time McLean business. They are wonderful.
Helpful.
So great to have a neighborhood hardware store. Great people working there and a wide variety of products makes it perfect!!!
Great local hardware store. They greet you at the door to offer assistance. Prices can be slightly higher than chains, but customer service is definitely better
Found what i was looking for
I love this store so much! A real old-fashioned hardware store that has basically everything you need. Sometimes I just go up and down the aisles to see whats there. Other times they have just the right odd-sized screw I need for a project. Sadly stores like this are a dying breed!
Very good local hardware store, usually has what you need for tools, fasteners, other supplies (though not always). Vastly preferable to visiting the big box stores, especially on weekends. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable--if you need something just ask.
Great place, good selection, great help
Excellent place. Supports our community.
Got what you need fast. The service is 5 star, prices higher but time saved.
I love the service here.
Great one on one service.Dedicated and helpful staff to a point that you feel that they are owners of the place .
The prices are insane. Many products are marked 10-30 % higher than MSRP. For small miscellaneous hardware, Im fine with that, but dont try to sell me tools with a massive markup. It made me think twice; huh this is way too expensive, I can get this much much cheaper elsewhere. The service is great, however. Ill continue to visit every once in a while in order to support a small business that values good service.
Definitely my best retail experience in recent memory. I needed to replace my temporary tags with permanent license plates--a fairly easy task, but I was worried about not buying the right screws (since I figured Id need to keep my temporary tags on and wouldnt be able to check the fit). They assisted me in finding the right screws and let me borrow a wrench so I could install the plates on site. All for a $2 transaction! Ill definitely be doing my hardware shopping here in the future.
Parking is easy and the employees are always really helpful. Unfortunately we left with the wrong screws after some one helped us.
Awesome selection service and atmosphere. The best!
This place is great. Has staff to help - in out fast AND they beat many Amazon prices. And it is in the neighborhood - what else can one want???!!!
Good place for quality items like Stihl power equipment, and a great place for advise.Bought my Stihl chainsaw there. To benchmark against Home Depot, McLean hardware is closer (if you live in Mclean), the service at Mclean Hardware is literally 1000 percent better, and the prices are from similar to double what home Depot charges, to even more... Depending on how much you value your time, and whether you know what you want, going to Mclean Hardware can be the better choice.
Very friendly staff, always eager and able to help. They dont have everything (this is not Home Depot), but they have most of the stapes, plus some interesting odds and ends (its hard to walk out with only what you walked in for, but they dont push anything on you). If they dont have something you need, theyll help think through alternatives. Glad they are part of the community.
Have what I need and able to find it fast
Super helpful and friendly staff like the hardware stores of yesteryear.
Excellent! Helpful, friendly and willing staff. Very convenient go-to for hardware supplies of all types.
Awesome as always!!!
They have all the random hardware you need here from duct tape to leaf blowers
Great local hardware store.
Great place to get something you need right away for your project.
This is a local hardware store that gives outstanding customer service. There are typically employees standing at the entrance, almost literally begging to help you. When you bring them your need, they escort you personally and make sure you get what you need. It seems like it might be a family business. They take great pride in it. The prices are a bit high, but everything is in Mclean. At least this place provides service to justify the prices. Selection is surprisingly good for a small location.
Quintessential hardware store serving us well. They get extra snow shovels in when it storms and they stay late so you can get what you need in a crisis. They have all kinds of things and they are our last defense against Walmart deciding what products are available in this country. Did I mention lots of jobs? There is always someone to take you to the thing youre looking for and they always know their inventory
If you live in the area and you are in need of a hardware store, this is the place to try. They have a large selection of all types of hardware as well as other household things. One of the best things about this place is that everyone knows their inventory. Just ask someone for something and they know where to find it. Most of the time, they will even take you to it.Because of its great selection, you can find all you need for almost any home project. I know that Home Depot is larger and has alot more items, but it is also an impossible place to find things They also dont have enough help that can tell you where to ind things. That place is more of a find it your self place. From Christmas lights to the smallest of fittings, McLean Hardware has a great selection and great service.
Nine out of ten times you go there they wont have what you want. Home Depot is only a short trip away. You assume that this local store is closer to you and that coming here will save you time. That only works if they have what you want. For some odd reason Ive kept on making the same mistake over and over again by coming here. Blame on it some mistaken notion about small and local always being better. Its not. Overpriced and understocked. The staff? An assortment of chipper, cute young high school guys, sullen rednecks and the odd person who knows what hes doing. The so-called handyman in the back deserves special attention for being a white trash prima dona with a bad attitude. There are two Home Depots within a short drive of here.
Always so helpful and have so much in that store.
Nice place. Nice people. I got the stuffs I needed.
Great local hardware store, worse variety of tools and supplies and extremely helpful staff.
Find what big box stores dont have. Amazingly helpful staff!
The boys are cute there. oh and yea they do a good job i guess.
Before you get 10 feet in the door, someone is there to ask you if you need help finding something and they will take you there. Plus, I am constantly amazed on how often they do have it. Simplify your life, go here first.
Great local hardware store. Always a good option to big box stores.
One of the oldest and best businesses in McLean with just about everything you need. A Family owned and oriented organization that deeply prides its self in customer service and community. The staff is made of an eclectic group ranging from local highschool students to retirees. They are knowledgeable, friendly, polite, and, quick to ask if you need any help. Plenty of useful services available such as knife or tool sharpening and screen door or window repair. Full line of Weber grills and Stihl power equipment. Trim, drywall, and some lumber available. Special Orders are typically available in 1-5 days. Open 7 days a week. Excellent about staying opening during severe weather and natural disaster. Great selection of boxed, bulk, and individual items.Plenty of neat things in the aisles to keep you busy wandering.
Great hardware store. Lots of friendly assistants to help.
They offer so much and they assist you if needed. They get you in and out as quickly as possible.
This is the best hardware store in the DC area.1. When you walk in there are at least two people eager to pounce on you and help find exactly what you need.2. They hire the nicest young people you can find outside of a Chik-fil-a to run the registers. Where do these people come from? So nice.3. Even the customers are nice here. I saw two guys arguing about who should checkout first.4. They sell STIHL tools.Ive been here many times and have never had anything but a great experience, and they always had what I needed. Why would you ever go to a Home Depot when this hardware store is here? I used to come here more often when I worked in McLean, but even now that I dont Ill travel from Annandale to shop here.
Very helpful staff, perhaps better-staffed because of the # of students working there for summer jobs. There were still only a couple people who actually knew where everything was (more experienced and usually but not always older), but at least they were willing to point you in a general direction.Selection is quite good for a local hardware store. I would not go here for any building projects, but for simple home repair and maintenance, this is about 90% less painful than a trek to HD or Lowes. Prices are, surprisingly, comparable to the big box stores based upon the basics I have purchased (cleansers, fasteners, etc). The only downside is that they charge $5 to sharpen a knife, with no discount for bulk, and its done off-site. Usually, if you want your entire kitchen set and pocketknives done, other places will charge you $5-6, but then tack on the rest for a lower cost per piece (its usually done with a machine). Ive gotten a set of 11 kitchen and 4 pocketknives sharpened elsewhere for $35 plus tax (3@5, [email protected]). Here that would be $75, and they dont do serrated blades.
This store been around for a longtime. Good place to get your most common household item. The staff are very friendly and their is always mainly of them waiting to help.
This is a great family run hardware store in the heart of McLean that always seems to have just what I need!
I wish all stores have customer service like McLean Hardware. Very helpful!
