It is believed that Devki and Vasudev used to wash their baby clothes in this Kund. The place was first known as Pavitra Kund but with the time it was pronounced as Potra Kund. Potra means clothes, thus the name was given Potra Kund to this place.Maa Devki washed Krishna’s clothes in this Kund after his birth. This step-well is adjacent to Krishna Janam Bhumi and is enclosed in the locked railings.  Connected to the pious river Yamuna through underground pipelines, this kund is the most ancient places in the city.

Potra kund is a large kund which even have some ancient building surrounding it... Although this potra kund was closed at the time I visited it but I could see how beautiful it was at that time. Potra kund is just next to Shri Krishna janam bhoomi temple. It is an ancient kund. It is said that Vasudev ji and Devki mata used to wash their clothes in this kund while they were in kamsas prison. Though It is no more allowed to enter the kund to protect it from uncleanliness caused by public yet we can have its view from outside, the water and nearby stairs look clean and beautiful.

This door shaped is made of sandstone and here is made of old Hindu method.There is a huge tank named Potra Kund near the birthplace of Shri Krishna.
