We had an amazing meal at Rick Steins restaurant in marlborough last night.. the restaurant itself was sleek and stylish, with a relaxed atmosphere and was reasonably priced. The food was exquisite and the service superb. A real special treat on our trip away. We would definitely recommend a visit and would love to go back.
We came in for a meal on a Saturday evening. Ordered mussels and pea soup to start. The mussels were perfectly acceptable but I couldnt taste much of the sauce in them - dare I say, I thought they were quite bland. The pea soup however, did go down well - thick and flavoursome, and they included bread at no extra charge. For main course we ordered fish and chips, and lamb cutlets. Lamb was cooked perfectly but lacked noticeable seasoning and we felt were underwhelming for the price. Fish was tasty but the chips tasted undercooked and soggy. I expect chips to have a nice crispy outer skin with fluffy potatoe in the middle. Undercooked potatoe cuboids describes them better than chips sadly. Service was fine although there was a delay with a pot of tea. Given the name above the door, we were expecting a premium dining experience and had much higher expectations than we received. As another recent reviewer wrote, we found it lacked the wow factor.
We had a lunch for 7 there after a funeral on the 27th Sept 21.We had a really nice meal. Staff were all really friendly. Everyone enjoyed the food. Great fish and chips. Hake was perfect as was the Place. If you like deserts, you will enjoy these.Highly recommended and not stupid pricing .
Great food experience. Surrounded by a great team the food is incredible. Obviously you have to be a fish and seafood lover to appreciate this restaurant. You can also enjoy some nice meat.Located in a Grade II listed building, Lloran House makes even more special your visit to this restaurant. You will find different rooms with very nice atmosphere.
Wonderful original seafood dishes. Fantastic service. If were ever in Marlborough again we will definitely come here again
Excellent venue, brilliant staff and the food was just superb! 4 of us dined there and we could not fault this place. The Xmas menu is very good too, the Hake was excellent and that sauce, wow! I’d recommend the Christmas pudding for desert, just heavenly! They even have real ales by the bottle! We will definitely go back.
The experience was utterly atrocious, the presentation was little to be desired for. The flavours were devastatingly bland, as salt was all I could ask for during the duration of my experience to add a hint of flavour to this otherwise bland dish. Not to mention the horror on my face as I peer across the receipt showing a 12.5 per cent service charge for their lacking behaviour. Im sure many of you are aware of the phrase the customer is always right, well most the time I object to this phrase, but little to my surprise, their lack of experience and knowledge in this catering field of work has rendered them helpless to being criticised for their undeniable shortcomings. Id always hoped that I wouldnt be that person, to call this out, however after giving countless chances to this restaurant, I feel the urge to voice my opinion on this fruitless venture.
A fab restaurant in a fab town. Such a joy to visit such a trendy place with great staff, an exciting menu and brilliant service from start to finish. We had a really enjoyable food experience here and would definitely return when next in the area. No Pinot Grigio the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars.
Our first experience of Rick Steins restaurants so not knowing what to expect our expectations were high. There was absolutely no hurry with our lunch.....this appears to be normal where other restaurants might be criticised for being slow.....it felt relaxed and normal. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable. We ate 3 courses from the set lunch menu and were not disappointed. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience thanks in no small part to our dear friends whose guests we were.
Visited here for our anniversary and it was fantastic. The food was sublime as well as top notch service from out waitress Josephine. She was well versed on the food and drink offerings, super efficient and helpful to everyone in her section. She also introduced me to Chalkys bite lager which was marvellous. We werent rushed and my husband and I both agreed it was one of the best nights out wed had. Various offerings and price ranges on the menu too. From the set menu, which I opted for, and loads of offerings on the main menu. Indonesian fish curry was lovely as a main and Laksa for starter was perfect. Fully recommend you visit here.
Great value and service, thank you
Probably the worst visit I have had. It’s usually been 5 star every time but the latest was an average. Great service as always. The food just didn’t hit the mark.
Terrible customer service on the phone we booked for a meal for this evening after the online booking system was playing up all was fine i contact Ted them to advise we were running behind and got a sharp borderline rude response from Michelle saying I should have checked the confirmation.. if you want to grow your business while exiting a pandemic dont just rely on the quality of your food .
Delicious food, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Celebrated my father in law’s 80th birthday here and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Lovely food and very attentive and helpful waitress. When she overheard it was my birthday, I got a birthday sweet treat!
Ive had a number of very good meals here but will not be returning until they change their barbaric and anti-science stance on masks.Masks are the thin end of the wedge on terms of absurd restrictions that threaten to destroy the hospitality industry. Accept these and you accept them all.I find the forced masking of staff particularly objectionable given the known harms of prolonged mask wearing + the dystopian environment they engender.I look forward to the day this policy is amended and coming back in for another meal
Lovely staff, food and restaurant! Brilliant time and everyone super helpful, patient and energetic.
We were taken here for our joint 50th Birthday. We’d delayed it due to lockdown. It was more like an investment. Some of the food wasn’t the same standard as the generally awesome cuisine. Some of it was just beyond perfect. Really it could make you cry.The service was the best. I mean, exquisite food served well is one thing but service that took your breath away meant that this was a perfect evening. Unforgettable.
Worst latte ever. Tasted like black coffee and tiny for £3.15. Wouldnt drink it again if they paid me. P!$$ poor.
Amazing restaurant. Great staff, great service, great food.
Been here a few times, and its always a polished menu, great service and fine food.
Wonderful experience and one on my bucket list which did not disappoint. The food was excellent and i couldnt fault the service .
Lovely! Great food. Staff were excellent!
Breakfast good value. Not so impressed with lunch. Better value available elsewhere.
Very nice place, food is excellent and great views of the river , good selection of drinks and lovely service
Beautiful ambiance, delicious food and amazing service. Everso patient with the two babies we had with us too!
Excellent food and service - really enjoyed the visit.
Great seafood restaurant but for none fish eaters there were alternatives
As always lovely surroundings, professional friendly team and food is excellent. Great to see the plaice back!
Nice style, great courtesy, efficient service and the food was first class. I hope to be returning soon!
Excellent food and service at reasonable prices in a lovely setting
The name says it really nice place with fine dining
The service was exceptional from beginning to end. Beautiful restaurant with incredible food.
Pleasant ambiance, very good attentive service and very tasty dishes created with the best ingredients.
Brilliant lunch, great staff. Many thanks
Super meal and great staff
Lovely friendly waitress, Oysters were nice for an appetiser as were the Padron peppers, the Sri Lankan Cashew Nut Curry had a decent flavour but was found by my partner to be a little bit dry. Mussels had a lovely simple broth, quite a few (5-7 per bowl) were only partially open which was a shame. Nice Cheesecake with Berry Compote.
Having been to the Seafood place in Padstow..we were expecting the same level of food and service...sadly lacking....the fish soup in Padstow is rich..thick and full of flavour...the one we had here last night was watery..oily and insipid !.The Sri Lankan curry tasted so heavily of uncooked out turmeric..we have had their At home box and the curry was to die for...this wasnt!!The crab lacked flavour Completely and the fish Gratin...I did wonder if my taste buds were off ..no seasoning..no sauce...dry as chaf!!! And soo small for the price...So disappointed... I was hoping for the same quality as Padstow...sadly not the case!!!
Appetiser; Oysters. Starter was fab, smoked salmon. Ordered the ribeye steak rare for main, served as medium to well-done. They did replace the meal including sides & sauce (extra), FOC. Was a great night, but was lacking the wow factor with the food and interior. Expected more from a premium chain, but never the less, i would dine again.
Excellent Service. Good Food. Decent value for money. We went for a birthday dinner. Everyone was happy with their meals, from the fish dishes to the beef all were thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were particularly good.
Good service, friendly staff and wonderful food
So disappointed grattan watery no taste bland hake the same oysters had shell in staff tried to compensate us with adjusting bill but it ruined my birthday. They had a problem in kitchen starters took 1hr to arrive. Sorry just disappointed.
We only stopped for morning coffee and to just say wed visited the Marlborough Rick Stein. Very pleasant flat white coffee and what we thought a very overpriced presse.
The staff are fabulous and the food was beyond divine.
Just had takeaway fish and chips from Marlborough and to be honest considering the price and reputation I was very disappointed. Best part was the mushy peas and tartare sauce the rest was very dry.
With the ongoing concerns and trepidation caused by the pandemic, we were apprehensive. However, from the moment we walked through the door, the attention to hygiene was obvious. All staff were attentive and gave excellent service. The food was great and I particularly liked the jenga
Had a nice breakfast here, nice ambiance and staff attentive. Only complaint was that perhaps the serving size could have been bigger.
Had a Fish & Chips take away, on pick up the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was ready promptly as it said on the app (the app itself is very onerous). The fish, while very small was tasty. The pot of peas was huge and disproportionate to how much fish and chips were also in the bag.Fish and Chips are a British foundation, I was amazed that there were literally 8 chips under the fish. EIGHT! They werent even that great.Sadly disappointing visit.Would have been one star but for the friendly welcome
Excellent food and fantastic staff as usual
Excellent food and really good value
Food and premises great. But service was cold and not great. When arrived and said we had a booking....no one spoke or greeted us! Waiting staff were not very friendly either which was a shame as food and table were all good
Great food and great service
Good food, brilliant service.

Chips are fantastic, crispy perfection!
Absolutely amazing food and staff were lovely too. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it warm, classy and cosy. Top notch stuff 😋
Great food and lovely service
Another great evening here. Superb food and service and at a sensible price. The Indonesian curry is outstanding!!
Very welcoming & surprisingly family friendly! We booked a table for 7 adults, 5 children and a baby and were well looked after. There is even a kids menu, although not hugely adventurous so our son selected dishes from the main menu!Beautifully presented & very tasty food albeit a tad more expensive than your run of the mill restaurant. We were delighted with the service and the food.
1st time ever here and ... well....Great food and brilliant service, nothing less than what I expected.
First visit back after lockdown, and just as good as before. Their self generated £10 off in September (Mon - Wed) helped make a perhaps slightly extravagant mid-week meal just a bit of a treat!
Fabulous lunch at our favourite restaurant. The staff are charming and the food was divine!! So pleased that they have reopened.
Great food and service as always
Lunch experience was not what I expected, poor service, food was average. Dessert was the saving grace. Wouldn’t rush back, I felt that perhaps the bookings were to close to each other and the staff were struggling with the numbers.
Good breakfast and nice coffee, if a little overpriced. Table service was a bit slow but gave us chance to talk. Waitress was very pleasant and smart. Would go again.
Doesn’t give justice to who Rick Stein is! The food is really poor. The seafood didn’t seem fresh. Gave me a bad stomach soon after I got home which proves it.My partner ordered a steak which was tasteless. the second star is only for the dessert which was so lush. Won’t recommend or go there again.
A lovely ambiance, low lighting and a relaxing place, great staff and not too expensive... But the food lacked something... Would I revisit?? Not too sure....
Great service, lovely food.
Amazing food, fantastic service, lovely friendly people. I will definitely be back after the lockdown!
The second visit ,the day announced that lockdown was coming ,we came for a birthday celebration early, so feeling sad .However the meal was all excellent, All had a fish dish .Look forward to next time , with good wishes . service very good . thankyou .
Great restaurant, fantastic food, very friendly staff, great atmosphere and had a lovely meal here would well recommend to anyone.
Fabulous food - simple, unfussy, just beautifully prepared and extremely delicious! We had a lunchtime set menu at a very reasonable price, Wine list great, would recommend the Chardonnay. Staff friendly and attentive. Ambience lovely, a really nice treat.
Excellent food. Service was very good. Not cheap but worth it.
Really nice environment, complimented by very tasty food and excellent service.
Really relaxing, fab food, top social distance measures and great service. Really enjoyed our visit.
Great experience, from the minute we walked in the door. Staff were brilliant and very informative on both the food and drinks menu. Hannah P was our waitress, and she is s credit the the restaurant. Ill definitely be returning. Thank you.
Very good food and excellent service the only gripe was too many sauvignon blancs on wine menu which I dont like it was lunchtime and we were driving home, so just had a glass but wanted more alternatives and better wines on the glass option.
Just excellent
Food magnificent, staff friendly, immaculately clean, nothing is too much trouble for them Thank you.
