Have you heard of Chifa food before? Chifa food is an amalgamation of Cantonese Chinese food using readily available ingredients in South America . The majority of immigrants from China immigrated there from southern China namely Guangdong province . When we had an opportunity to visit Lima the homestay we stayed at was run by a nice Chinese/Peruvian couple who cooked pretty amazing Chifa food. In Lima Chifa is as ubiquitous as Macdonalds is in Canada and you will see Chifa restaurants all over the city .To my surprise there is actually a Chifa restaurant in Winnipeg . So I of course had to check it out. Hao Hao restaurant to be exact.I ordered the lomo saltado, kam lu wonton, hot and sour soup, and an egg roll. Total cost via Skip was $52.00 incl tax/tip/deliveryLomo Saltado is probably the most common dish people associate with Chifa cuisine . It’s a beef stir fry with tomatoes, onions, peppers , chilli and usually served with fries . The one at Hao Hao was pretty underwhelming. They didn’t use any aji amarillo chillies or any chilli to be honest . The tomato was near non existent (dish usually has chunks of tomato) the amount of beef was lacking for a almost 14 dish, and the sauce was just one dimensional brown gravy of sorts . It lacked the flavour and punch that makes lomo so popular . The beef was velveted so it was tender which was a redeeming factor . 3/10The kam lu wonton was not good at all . Basically it appeared they took random sweet and sour ingredients along with a commercial dayglow sauce that has been sitting under a heat lamp for far too long and served it with big (but minimal meat) deep fried wontons . 2/10The wonton soup however was actually surprisingly good. It was well balanced and didn’t go overboard on the chingkang vinegar like most places nor was is gloopy . It had a fair amount of ingredients in it too. 8/10The egg roll was just that .. a run of the mill store bought egg roll . Nothing exciting or worthy to write home about. 3/10Overall I will probably give this place a miss. Not much effort put forth in preparation of the food and no real value given the price point. It tastes like cheap buffet food sold at a premium. I wanted to like it. I really did but they fell short .
This is the only Chinese restaurant that Ill order from (Yes, I have my favourites). They serve fresh ingredients with generous portions. This family has always been accommodating to my dietary sensitivities and I cant thank them enough. Please try the Peruvian-Chinese dishes, I feel that this offering needs more exposure as it is often overlooked, the food is phenomenal.
As of Chinese food, it is good! The Chinese-Peruvian food (Chifa) could be better, but its understandable that flavours wont be the same here in Canada. Overall, I think this is a great place to eat and they have very friendly staff
Meal was fabulous, large portions and came to the table surprisingly fast.
Excellent food, ask for the menu in Spanish, it has more sabor
All I can say is I was extremely displeased with the service here. We ordered delivery, told us it would be an hour and a half, sure no problem. We ended up waiting THREE HOURS. Everytime I tried to call to check the status of our order, they would hang up on me or dodge my calls completely. I understand if you’re busy, but to hang up on customers like that and ignore their calls is extremely unprofessional.Turns out they hadn’t even started our order yet...or even bothered to give us a call to let us know that. So ridiculous. Cancelled my order and will definitely not try to order from here again.
Hot, fresh, good. Large chunks of good chicken in the chicken balls. Very impressed.
Exelent food and lots options
Reasonable price for lunch combo. Tastes great too. Would order from here again.
Have eaten Chinese food in Singapore, Hong Kong, and in other Chinatowns in Asia, Id say the closest or most authentic Ive tasted so far in the Winnipeg area.
Really good food. Big portion for our take out.
One of the best Chinese(Peruvian) infused food Ive had. Great service, a must try.
Best place to have your Luncheon Christmas Party.Food is excellent and accommodation is very friendly.Well definitely come back again!
My husband and I ordered take out as our usual place for Chinese food was closed, now we have a new favorite. Their Wontons and Vegetables and chicken were amazing.
This little hidden gem of a restaurant was a great surprise for our family. Great dishes and reasonable prices. Go check it out!
Love the new revamped restaurant. Food is delicious and well priced. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Micheal the owners brother is very pleasant to talk to and he knows about whats on the menu. This is definitely my favorite Chinese, Peruvian restaurant in Winnipeg. Well priced, tasty Chinese cuisine. Definitely a great place to eat at with good portion sizes too.
The wontons with the sweet and sour sauce is to die for
Excellent food reasonably priced and portions were amazing yep would recommend them to anyone!
Excellent food everytime..friendly..clean and very reasonably priced.Gotta eat here!
One of our favorite Chinese places!
Regarding the buffet, it would have been helpful to have the various food offerings to be identified. Service good but the wontons in the soup just dont cut it.
Decent Food for Good Price.Tried 3 times. 3.5 stars avg.wings are the best as they quickly replenish small amount fast. Some foods are blender than other places but personally Id rather have that than salty.Point of this place is cheap Wings! Approx $11 per person (incl tax) buffet for lunch. Can you beat that price? Stop complaining you ungrateful bloggers and find a better restaurant with HIGHER price tag.*** I am not connected to any of the restaurant personnel in any shape or form. I am actually giving a honest opinion here. You can also have perfectly sound opinion that is valid. Cheers.
Excellent peruvian- chinesse food. Unique in Manitoba
Everything was great!!
Best wonton soup Ive had to-date highly recommended!!
I am pretty sure this is the best Peruvian-Chinese food expirience in Winnipeg. The fried Wonton here is the main reasons to I always come back, are fantastic (Lomo Saltado, fried rice Aeropuerto betweeing other dishes). Everything on the menu Ive tried is fantastic! You cant lose this Peruvian-Chinese fusion.
Great Western Style Chinese food. Its great if you have a craving for fast n simple, but if you want traditional cuisine this may not be ur place. They do however have awesome chicken wings
Love the buffet! Well worth the price.
Always an awesome experience there
I have never been a fan of Chinese food, but I definitely liked having dinner there. Good price for a big amount of good food. Totally worth it. Me and my friends loved it.
Passable lunchtime buffet. (Go early or theres nothing left in many of the pans).Itll run you about 12 bucks. The definition of no frills.
Good food at a decent price.
Had the lunch buffet. Its worth the drive Food was hot fresh for a buffet. All you can eat $10 . Cant beat the price either
Friendly staff and great food. Would definitely go again!
Great for pickup. Excellent prices. Food can be a little bland, even if you ask for it extra spicy.
Had a evening delivery. One of the items was not to anyones liking and I called back to see if I could return it. I was given a replacement at no charge. Good food, friendly staff, and excellent service makes this our go to restaurant for take out.
The best Chinese-peruvian food in the City.
Ordered delivery. Arrived on time, hot, ample portions, cheerful service! Great filling food, great price.
Fair price for Lunch buffet as 10.99 but I dont think Id visit again
Our Goto chinese restaurant of choice. Thank you
The food is amazing!
Good service and good food. Not too bad if you want to try a little bit of Chifa (Peruvian - Chinese food)
Definitely worth the journey!
I always go there for buffets since their limited selection is exactly what I always would get at a more expensive buffet - might not be for everybody but definitely worth a try!
What a lunch buffet for $9! Soup plus a very meaty Chinese buffet, must be 16 dishes out in the steam table and theyre hot.
Always friendly... excellent food...great family
Quite family run place, the food is phenomenal.. Highly recommend it
Not too big restaurant and diverse food items but food quality is good.
Save yourself the time, agony and tastebuds. Went for lunch with my construction crew, I had one bite and put it down, only thing that taste decent is the chicken wings... By decent I mean I could swallow without throwing up. Making sandwiches when I get home (y)
Our go to for Chinese food take-out. The lunch buffet is good, the chicken wings are great.
Went for the lunch buffet and arrived at 12:35pm There was 6 other people in the restaurant at the time. Almost every food dish was empty or near empty and picked over. A few mins later 2 of the food dishes were topped up. Food was so/so of what we were able to scrape up. Then while we just finished we were sitting too close to kitchen door. Some one in there was coughing up a lung which then led to the sounds of throat clearing followed by the spitting noise. DISGUSTING !!!!! Now I know why nobody was in there at the noon hour. They have seen the last of me...,..
Go for the buffet. Get the wings. Awesome!
Good food for the price, lunch buffet and drink less than $12. Would not use as a dinner place though, quality would not meet a dinner experience.
Cheap lunch time buffet. Food is very good, and not very busy at 12:30, seated right away
The Chinese buffet is really good, all types of dishes you can have are in this restaurant with decent price.
Awesome food
Small but tasty buffet. Good prices.
Four of us went there for dinner and shared several different dishes, which all tasted great. We went on a Monday night and it was not too busy.
Great prices and great food. Free dish on orders over $40.
Good food fast friendly service
Good price for lunch, selection was fair

The dishes are very varied, of good quality and great taste.I recommend the chijaukay with chaufa, fried wantanes and the airport, which is not on the menu but can be ordered. The wantan soup is very tasty too.The sizes of the plates are perfect, very well served. The prices are very reasonable.Excellent food, the taste is the same as in a Peruvian chifa.
