Dakhil Darwaza is one of the entrance gate of the fortified city of Gaur during the reign of Sultanate in Bengal. It was once used to salute the king once they return from battle. Made up of brick with terracotta architecture. Inside it is dark and infested by thousands of bats. So be cautious while visiting inside of this gate.
Dakhil or selami darwaza was the entry point of the city. It is believed that after winning a war or coming from somewhere else people used to gather here and celebrate, so name as selami door.Tickets - not required. Before the Muslim invasion this place, Gour belongs to King Shasanka, who vigorously reign the state. That time Gour was a predominant place of trade where most of world were engaged to trade sugarcane, jute, jaggery, and muslin, the super fune. In Sanskrit jaggery refer as gur the ancient name Gour has derived from that name. The world wide travellers, traders used to come in this place during that day. Almost for 800 years Gour was the peak on this popularity. After 15th Century the city was abandoned due to some war reasons or may the lethal plague.
Dakhil Darwaza literally an entrance gate, (Ar. dakhil, Per. darwaza), is the largest structure of its kind in the architectural history of Sultanate Bengal. It was the main entrance to the citadel of lakhnauti, the Muslim name of gaur (per. Gawr). The gateway was the most solid and most elegant entrance portal ever erected in Bengal. The suggestion that it was erected by Sultan nasiruddin mahmud shah (1435-59 AD) at the time of the building of his citadel seems untenable. When the gateway of gunmant mosque, the city congressional mosque of the time of the restored Iliyas Shahis, could not be built to ensure that it could be reasonably time-enduring, how could such a strong and balanced structure like the Dakhil Darwaza be built at that timeFoodgrain We do not have a similar example even in pandua where the largest congressional mosque in Bengal was erected by the second Iliyas Shahi ruler, who is widely acknowledged to be the first great builder amongst the independent rulers of Bengal.Hence the probability is that Alauddin husain shah, who was also the builder of the bara sona mosque, built the present gateway. The majesty of both the architectural pieces bring them at par in point of time. It is likely that the present gateway was s substitution of a weaker gateway built by Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah at the time of the erection of the citadel. Because of their weak construction similar inner gateways named Chand Darwaza and Nim Darwaza had vanished.
This impressive gateway formed the northern entrance to the then fort of Gour. It is made of small red bricks and terracotta work. The area is surrounded by a beautiful garden having a well maintained grass lawn.Monument that reminds us of our countrys rich heritage. Nice place for short outing with family and friends.
Dakhil Darwaza is an astounding tourist spot. A colossal structure of bygone days has the charm and aura to mesmerize any visitor at this ancient city, named Gauda.Sturdy and magnificent, one can easily detect the minute floral decorations over this archeological site. However, on my opinion, more maintenance is required. The iron made front gate is already in a deplorable condition. Dearth of Information and guidance for the new visitors are prominent. An Information Centre can be set up for all the connoisseurs of history. Government should take initiatives for the arrangement of wash rooms.
This a place of national heritage. So obviously its a great historical site with several other historical sites near about. They are Firoz minar, chika mosque and most importantly karnasubarna-the capital of Gour then and the emperor Sasanka. There is also a pious place where Nemai Mahaprabhu visited once and took rest there.

The architecture of the gateway is an impressive one, and such an impressing structure could be built only when architecture has attained its full fruition. On this ground, it may be suggested that the Dakhil Darwaza was built in the Husain Shahi period. Antorio de Britto, the Portuguese interpreter (1521 AD), speaks of a mosque round the corner in front of Dakhil Darwaza.

Old ruins in Malda, neatly maintained by ASI.
Dakhil or Salami Darwaza was the main entrance of Gour Fort and was built by Barbak Shah probably in 1425 AD. The name Dakhil means entrance and is located on the northern side of the fort. Whereas Salami means to salute. It was a common practice to honour dignitaries by a Gun Salute at the time of their entrance. Must have been a grand sight in the haydays of Gour. Even now the forlorn structure stands proud in its past glory. A must visit for the visitors.

This is one of the best historical place i have visited so far.##This huge gate was made by Md. Barbak Shah in 1425 A.D. at Gour Malda which was the capital of Bangla. At his reign time this unique gate was the first entrance of Bangla. As the soldiers of Md. Barbak Shah salutes or Salam from this very gate by their artillery; so the gate named as Salami Darwaja.##

Gauḍa, Gaur, or Gour, also known as Lakhnauti and Jannatabad, is a ruined city on the Bangladesh-India border. The fort containing the palace in its south-west corner. Previously, the fort and whole city was made by Great Gaur Rajputs or Pala Dynasty. They ruled all the Bengal and present some area of Bangladesh. The fort was strongly fortified with a rampart and entered through a magnificent gateway called the Dakhil Darwaza (1459-1474). At the south-east corner was a palace, surrounded by a wall of brick 66 ft (20 m) high, of which a part is standing. Near by were the royal tombs. Within the fort is the Kadam Rasul mosque (1530), which is still used, and close outside is a tall tower called the Firoz Minar (perhaps signifying tower of victory). There are a number of notable attraction like as, Eunuchs mosque, Tantipar mosque, Lotan mosque, Tomb of the saint Makhdum Shaikh Akhi Siraj (died 1357).

Historically enriched
Other than the screeching of bats on one corner and abundant flow of air the place is wrongly put in shape. This entrance to the fortress is actually surrounded by water - a terrific strategic execution by the Nawaz Shah to make entry by enemies difficult.
One more must visit destinations in Malda. Not at all crowded. A place of historical interest. Worth visiting. Well maintained n clean. More publicity required to let people know about its importance.
