Beautiful scientific marvel, one of the oldest hydroelectric station situated in Maithon, West Bengal and Jharkhand on Barakar river.Planned pre independence but bulit in Independent India in 1957. Its about 55-60ft high and 15000 ft long.Its also very close to Maa Kalyanshwari temple. This place also has a deer park.Its a popular local tourist destination for a weekend. Reachable via NH2 from Kolkata within about 230-235km. By train to Asansol Jn then take a bus or cab.There are multiple hotel close by where one can stay with family or as couple.Best time to visit is during winter and rain as summer is very hot in these region.Thank You.
Awesome place to visit with friends and family.. but if you are a bike rider then you have to be very careful for crossing the border. Local police may harras you. As per them you can go to the dam without any restriction but wont came back from the same side you have to travel 5 to 7 kms heading towards the main road and follow along to enter the same area.. be carefull as per 16 th july 2021If you find it helpful give it a like👍

Lovely place near Jharkhand.. the place is wonderful and actually looks like its picked up from a movie scene. Serenity is in every corner of the place. You can go boating from here also for couples there is a millenium park... There are a lot of places to stay but if you want the best view then its definitely Maithon Tourist Lodge cottages. Its the best view that money can buy and also its not very costly. Two bedroom is only ₹2000 a night and the food is average so no expectations there. Its a 1 night trip there or a day trip at max. Great place overall... Most of all paisa wasool...

Really a nice place. Never thought a visit to a dam would be so fun and enjoying. However if youre planning to take a ride of boat or steamer then I would recommend you not to go there on Sunday as the queue would be so long that you have to wait forever.
Maithon Dam, situated in Bengal & Jharkhand border area in the bank of river Barakar, one of the naturally beautiful place for spending your holidays with family,friends.Sunrise&Sunset view is damn awesome from here.Through out the year many people visit here.If you wanna avoid croud then choose anytime except December & January 1st week, as the crowd visit the most during this time period for picnic purpose.Boating is available here with affordable price (₹100/head, as per my last visit on 1st January 2021)picnic spot is quite crowded and there is no sufficient Toilet in that area😠😡.Administration should have focus on this serious issue.Nearby attraction is Kalyaneswari temple, Shiv temple in Bhandar Pahar, an abandoned coal mine etc.

Great as a picnic spot . Boating facility available.
It is basically a dam built on a landlocked lake . Small hills are surrounded around the lake. Mainly its now a tourist place for its heavenly landscape . You can enjoy the views from the bridge or hill. The best part of it is the boating arrangement. You must do boating here . With some extra money you can enjoy the boating for a huge extended time on smooth silent lake. And there is no primary charge for this place or for the parking . There is also a adjacent park here. Though it is small. I personally recomend to come here on winter season . The smoky situation makes it more mysterious. Roads are good . For long drive it will be perfect.

Only private vehicles are allowed to cross the state border. Commercial vehicles need to take E-pass for entering the bridge. Or else you will stopped at the check post. You can get into the dam bridge by walking. Majumder nibas is the best option to stay. Other hotels are also available for night stay.
Wonderful place for one day trip.... Beautiful sceneries are surrounded there.... One of the most rated tourist spot in Jharkhand.... This place is situated near the border of West Bengal and Jharkhand.... Also a good family friendly picnic spot.... In the rainy season the river becomes full of water... And the door of the dam stays opened... The forcibly out water looks beautiful... But in the winter you cant see this... You can see the river is partly filled by water.... And if you go deep, between the rocks there are tiny waterfalls made by the stream....

The Maithon Dam is located at Maithon, 48 km from Dhanbad, in the state of Jharkhand. It is 15,712 ft long and 165 ft. high. This dam was specially designed for flood control and generates 60,000 kW of electric power. There is an underground power station, the first of its kind in the whole of South East Asia.Ideal for weekend break. It takes about 3-3.5 hours with a tea break at Saktigarh. The dam is in between the state of West Bengal and Jharkhand. The best place to stay is Majumdar Niwas which is next to the dam. Kalyaneswari temple is very near by and falls on the way. Best time is winter. The water directly come to Durgapur Barrage. A huge picnic spot in winter. Great Scenic beauty available all over the dam. Great place to visit.

This is the finest tourist spot situated at bengal-jharkhand border on the barakar river. The scenic beauty if the dam is just awesome. Thousand of people come here daily for picnic in the month of December and january. Many guest house hotels are available here. Deer park is one of the main attraction of here. Kalyaneswari temple is not so far from this place. Best option to reach here is by own car or book a car. Other wise reach dendua or kalyaneswari from asansol and then took a upto mithon dam.

Awesome place just speechless wounded full view of MAITHAN DAM from Maithan Dam Bridge. I am from kolkata (Dakhineswar) it the distance from my home to Maithan Dam Bridge is near about 228 k.m. I went to bike it is take 4 hours from my location.

This place is absolutely wonderful to visit owing especially to the near blue water of the dam. It is situated on the Damodar river and is operated by DVC for production of hydroelectric power. Boating can be done both in hand operated country boats and speed boats. Open spaces are also available near the dam for organizing picnics during the winters.
Beautiful view especially during sunset.Boat service is of variable rate. We got it at cheap price of Rs.400 for 6persons (1 boat). It took us to island and the lock gates. It was fun.

The Dam is the Biggest dam of damodar valley corporation and was built for flood control and power generation. It was founded by Indias first prime minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. Maithon got its name from Mai-ka-sthan or maayer sthan which literally means mothers abode as there is an ancient kalyaneshwari temple here which was built by the king of Barakar in 16th century.

A very decent place to visit but for only one time. I will not go for five star because i didnt liked so much. There is a park near to the dam one can visit there also.You are not allowed to clique pictures from above the dam. This place is good for picnic and anyone visit in the winter season but in the weekends there is usually lots of traffic anyone can find.
It was a very beautiful and well maintained place once upon a time. But recent negligence from DVC has left this place to degrade. The roads are not maintained now is it used to be. You will get food stalls but they are mostly overpriced by a margin of 22 to 70 percent on packaged food. If possible, buy the packaged stuff from a market at 1.5km before.

Busy months are Dec and Jan where people usually gather here for picnic. There is a park on the foot of the bridge. You can see the other side of the bridge from here and the view is great. Enjoy a beautiful boat ride here.
Good place for boating. Takes 300/- an hour for a boat. But speed takes 600/- and its masive fun giving for children and teenagers.Due to COVID 19 you cannot go towards the lock gates, collect information on e-pass.

Its a nice picnic spot. Many tiny islands are reachable by speed boat or motor boat. On the other side a beautifully designed park exploring herself with many flowers .

Awesome view of the Lake and Power plant from Bridge. Two different view (one is the Misty lake view of hilly area, another is other side of the Dam where water flow is very beautiful) can be sighted from here. Feeling will be different also for the same. One side you will feel like you are in front of sea shore and on the other side feeling will be like rocky Himalayan River side.

Excellent place for an outing. The cool breeze will keep you handy throughout the visit. During the day, it gets pretty hot. Just take a stroll down the dam and you will be welcomed with amazing views of the waters, the massive dam and the river banks. Authorities do not allow cars and other vehicles to stop on the dam, so you have to walk the entire length of the dam if you want to have a good view of the same. You can also choose speed / leisure boating around the waters of the dam, to enjoy and feel the nature, fresh on your face. It is pretty exhilarating.

Can be one day visit place with family or friends. Boating in dam water is main attraction, available at very low cost. Food near dam is not good, so it is advisable to take your own food. There is parking lot so can take your own vehicle. Nice view from the dam pool.
Pretty breathtaking! Although there is no direct stairs to the shallow side and you have to drop down a steep rocky terrain which is a bummer for some.

This bridge is the border between West Bengal & Jharkhand. Nice place to have pics together. If you want to tour Jharkhand after visiting Maithon Dam, you have to pass through this bridge, a great visual treat!
Could have been better in terms of maintenance.Apart from that, the place is informative, kind of a spot of tourism interest.Theres a hydel power plant situated underneath and within the main mountain and dam premises, with a power supply station yard.
