We went to dine in for dinner, the vegetable platter was decent nothing special about it, our curries planner and chicken Tikka masala were good with lots of flavor and the spice level for extra hot was actually spicy, overall we will definitely be going back to this restaurant to try other dishes

BEST ONE!!!! It was a great experience of fine dine and best tastes served on the plate. If you are crossing Madison while you are on a road trip and want to eat good Indian food, this place is TOP best to dine with. We stopped there while coming back from Devils Lake Park trekking and ordered Paneer Kadhai, Malai Kofta and Butter Naan and these items tasted so authentic and fresh. Order came in quicker n hotter. If you love TEA I recommend it to drink one there, it tastes so good. We were impressed by the quality, courtesy and non pricy experience offered by the Swagat team.

Not very authentic, no tender meat, underspiced for Indian. Nice staff, decently clean. Rice was fragrant and fluffy, quick service. Could use improvement in the kitchen.

Chat was average when compared to other places in USA like Chicago, Dallas, California and New Jersey, but if you wanted to have chat in Madison area Swagat is better option.

A Big Mistake : Ordered food last night through Uber Eats, I didn’t get the order receipt so called restaurant to confirm. They bluntly said they have not received the order and confirmed from one senior person too and said no order has not been received by my name. They were so sure and told me to order agin from the website. With no choice, I did that and end up paying twice. After 10 min, got call from them your Uber eats order is ready and said the person I spoke with misunderstood it with Eat street and confirmed without checking that they haven’t received any order.I spent my 40-45 min with them just to confirm my order and that too went wrong.Please be careful if your are considering to order the food from Swagat Restaurant. Staff there is not at all responsive. Totally waste of time and quality of the food is not worth the price.

So so so disappointing! Especially because my boyfriend and I were first time goers and really excited to try the food. The prices are ridiculously overpriced, the portions are extremely small. And I hate to say it, but the service was pretty bad. They boxed our food up in boxes that spilled instant when carrying the bag. It spilled all over our car. $60 wasted. The food was not horrible. This was just not a good place. Save your money.

Worst chicken biryani of my life. Seemed like the chef mix whole bunch of red chili on the rice and gave it to us. Chicken 65 was way too hard to chew. Even though they are open till 2.30 PM for lunch, they won’t allow for dine-in after 1:30 PM. When I asked for the reason to the front desk person he simply responded we don’t allow. Not recommending anyone. Sorry didn’t find a star less than 1.

I have ordered out of this place multiple times never had to use a cracker to place a take-out order. I called 45 minutes before the closing time. So call back five minutes later at 8:20 to place a take out order the restaurant host said kitchen is closed. I told the host I called five minutes ago and you asked for a credit card. She said “ Sorry nothing I can do”.

9 of us came in at 1.30pm and had a horrifying experience! The waiter was extremely rude with all of us. He was least interested in serving us, we left withhout eating!Never going back there ..

Swagat is your average/mediocre Indian food place in Madison. They are not bad but definitely is not the place you want to go for a great indian food.The quality of the food is always mediocre and they gave you tons of sauce with almost no substance.Dont even try their naan. Its flat bread at that point.Price is not even close to the value or amount of food you get.

Before COVID, they were alright. Now theyre awful. I dont know what happened to them, and I tried to forgive them and assume various incidents were honest mistakes, but tonight was the last of what I could take. We ordered food through eatstreet, the food did not arrive. We contacted eatstreet and they refunded, and we ordered again. Swagat cancelled the order. We then ordered again with a note asking not to cancel. They just didnt bother to fulfill the order and told us that we should contact eatstreet and get a refund when we spoke to them on the phone... with an eatstreet representative on the line who connected us. They then hung up.The staff has become rude, incompetent, and lazy, apparently. Multiple times we have gotten various amounts of rice, most often vastly under what was necessary to compliment the entrees, and weve had to leave notes on our orders to ask for the appropriate amount of rice... which they have ignored on occasion. I had also ordered Tandoori chicken in the past... which came raw in the middle. Its a mystery to me how someone managed to undercook a relatively thin chicken drumstick, but they managed to do it. Theyve also sent food of various freshness to us.In years past, I wouldve sworn by their food as some of the best you could find in Madison. I understand restaurants are having a hard time during this pandemic, but this is the kind of service and food quality I would expect from a poorly managed and unsanitary restaurant. I will choose one of the other Indian restaurants to dine at from now on.

Love their Chilly Chicken they have during Saturday lunch buffet. I go here exclusively for that with garlic naan (also on the buffet! First Indian restaurant Ive been to that has that). If you are vegetarian, they have a wide variety of options available and for meat-eaters, they have chicken, fish, shrimp, and lamb dishes available. I highly recommend the lunch buffet. Come out and try delicious Indian food!!

Amazing! Absolutely amazing. As soon as I walked in, the aroma was enticing! The food surpassed my expectations of the flavor, even after being lured in by the aroma. The choice of food was authentic and diverse. Plenty of options for a vegetarian or a carnivore, and the many soups and sauces added to the meal. Spices, PERFECT! This place was decorated with ‘Best of Madison’ awards, without missing a year in the last decade; and I can see why! If you ever get a craving for Indian food, even if watching something on TV that makes you crave Indian food, this is the place to indulge that craving; you will not be disappointed. I never had to ask for a refill, it was always provided before necessary; and my table conversation wasn’t interrupted while my refill was supplied. The staff was friendly, clean and very attentive. I have other reviews on google, and I make it a point to speak up when a business deserves it; good or bad. My advice here: give this place a shot!

They have stopped buffet, I understand its due to Covid. But how can a restaurant forget how to cook!!Chicken 65 comes as chicken Pakoda, Lassi with spoiled curd, kadhai chicken with paneer butter masala gravy... Someone needs to teach them cooking.Being a foodie, it will be unfair if I dont give them credit for Goat Bhuna. That was very good and same was garlic naan.cocktail was good but felt as if they did not have alcohol left or someone replaced their rum with water.Go at your own risk.

Found a chewed-up fingernail in a samosa. Took it out of my mouth and it was definitely a fingernail. Given the plethora of positive reviews from this establishment, I’m not trying to denigrate the quality of this restaurant. I probably experienced something extremely rare.I just did not have a positive experience from here. But statistically speaking, others will have a positive experience.

Not good, and I eat indian food a lot. The flavors were odd, the add ons werent cut up at all, the naan was soggy, and it just wasnt very good. I also felt ill directly after eating.

Good food, but often way too salty

Im an adventurous foodie, but there was nothing that I enjoyed. The staff was not very attentive, but we did get our water refilled. I had to grab salt and pepper mills from another table, but they were so greasy, it really made me lose my appetite.

We ordered the vegetarian dinner for two. It was very delicious. The naan is a perfect balance of soft and chewy and it tastes so good that I could just eat it plain. We like the kheer, the gulab jamun is way too sweet for me though

Great find as we are making a quick pass through town. We needed something quick but not fast food. All the food on lunch buffet was delicious. I highly recommended putting a bite size of everything to try! Place was clean, staff kept the drink refilled and cleared off empty plates quick.

Very rude, they replaced my order with eat street driver, when i called driver they are going to go restaurant again and pick up my order which never happened, i called restaurant and told them i was gonna come and pick my order but the staff was rude saying they gonna close. I called them 8:45pm and they close at 9pm which they have 15min left.

Little overpriced, Buffet options are good, but most of the food is toned down to mild or bland spice levels. Majority of the dishes taste similar due to usage of same spices . Too much of infusion, with cheese and curd with Spices dont give a good feel. Great Ambience good hospitality. Good to visit once in awhile with colleagues if you want a toned down version of Indian food.

I have been visited this place many times, food was decent not exceptional. This Saturday when I visited in the noon, it was disappointing. First of all the item I needed were not available, indeed I decided to try special dishes. There were other customers who left since they didnt find what they were looking for as well. Not sure why they had full menu then. Front desk didnt even try retaining customer and wanted to let then go.Special item was mirchi pakoda, I had never heard of mirchi pakoda and ordered it. It was so disappointing, first of all it was not pakoda. It was bajji or kind of cut mirchi. They need to know what is called pakoda. Further the batter inside wasnt cooked, I thought of complaining but it was hard finding front desk people.I ordered gravy with medium spicy and when I tasted it, I felt like no chilly was added at all. Normally with a entree rice is given and I had to request for rice. They never checked if I need anything or is everything good to even give feedback.During pandemic they should be more enthusiastic and make customer feel more comfortable and feel like visiting again. Will never visit again. I would rather recommend closing dine-in than providing such a bad service until thing are normal rather than spoiling the reputation that is built.

I used to like getting lunch from here. Friendly service and delicious food. Suddenly this guy who answers the phone started to sound like he hates callers and has no time to take my order, always and every time gets my order wrong. I asked him once to give the phone to someone else and he claimed he’s the only one there! So rude, and a liar. Their food also started to go down the drain, no more nuts, the flavor is switching from aromatic to just hot! I finally found a better indian restaurant very close to them. I don’t recommend

We met with friends at this spot for lunch. we heard about this restaurant from quite a few people. Well, it was a winning. the staff were so friendly and we felt good. The food was just great. We had a great time and we shall absolutely come back again. we highly recommend this place.

Pretty good. My favorite is the paneer tiki masala. Take out is well packed, but slightly expensive for what is included.

The food wasn’t really fresh. Also, it is really overpriced priced, I got two briani and two chicken masala with nan bread, and we paid 99.35$ for that!!!!

Quite possibly the worst dining experience in my life. And I am 71 years old. I love Indian food and am at a loss to understand the rating for this place. The food was bland- not flavorful, not authentic at all. The service was absolutely horrible- I would waive at a server and they would look away and walk away. We never got any fresh bread, the food in the buffet was old and replaced far and few times in between- it looked gross in the buffet containers half solidified and burnt from sitting in the warm containers for too long. My wife is black (I am white) and did they ignore her! They would not even look at her. The servers did not sound like they had any manners or any sense of how its not okay in this country to treat people different based on their race. There was no supervision- couldnt see a manager or owner around. There was a young man with his hair dyed partly blond- he was strutting around like the governor of the state and was extra rude. Every experience and interaction from the moment we walked in to the time we left was terrible. Needless to say, I am never going back.

Not only have I been eating authentic homemade Indian food for years (my long-term boyfriend is from India and his parents make food all the time), but Ive also been to the motherland (and had a ton of homemade Indian food there made by my boyfriends family who are from there). As far as authentic-tasting Indian food goes, this place is definitely the best place in Madison. Visiting with a friend and we came here. The food was very good. Some other guests had a sizzling chicken dish that smelled very good and many others in the restaurant also looked at the dishes with interest too. The staff were very friendly and helpful with one of our friends in determining the spice level for their dish. My dinner was very good and it was a large portion. I had enough leftover for two days of lunch!

(Do you know how many times more then 15 times with in 2.30 PM )They haven’t filled foods in buffet tray and stared taking the plates while the kids are eating .So we left around 2.40 PM without completing our lunch.Also they charged adult price for 9 years old kid and kids charge for 2 toddlers which are they in 3 years..Very very poor experience in my life time !Please avoid this and prefer something better ... my advice don’t go !

My favorite place in Madison to eat Indian food! My daughter, her boyfriend and I went frequently because the food is fantastic! The chicken 65 rocks along with everything else.The food always taste fresh and the place is very clean! I feel it is the best place for Indian food in Madison and I’ve been to all the places there.

Very tasty pricey but worth it.

First of all I love hot spicy foods. When I was there last there was not one thing on the buffet that wasnt spicy, thats not enjoyable. DO NOT go in the last hour that the buffet is open! They will not replenish food. They will shut off the music and stop bringing water to the tables. They will actually tell you that you need to leave 5 minutes before the posted closing time. NEVER AGAIN, there are too many Indian buffets available in Madison to ever go back.

The food is delicious! I loved Naan #32, and the cheese cubes dish I had with creamy red sauce was marvelously delicious and satisfying. I also so enjoyed their Indian ice cream, it has a well balanced unique spice flavor and sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth. The staff are friendly and very professional. The restaurant is well kept, very clean, and despite being rather large it has a comfortable open feel to it. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The lunch buffet is wonderful. Theres a wonderful selection so you can get what you want: vegan or meat, spicy or mild, bread or rice. Everything is flavorful and delicious. I recommend the mango ice cream for dessert!

Good Indian food, decent price, buffet is ok, slightly, it has some days where its just ok though not consistent.

We ordered pickup of 2 thali meals for 2 people. It came for nearly 4 meals. So the portions were more than enough. But the taste was mediocre, especially the dal and aloo gobi curry.
