Following the death of Britain’s Queen Victoria in 1901, the British government in India decided to build a monument in her memory. Of course, Calcutta (the old name for Kolkata) had the grandest edifice, but places like Lucknow and Allahabad too were chosen for the purpose.
Nothing is there to see
The Lucknow Victoria Memorial was created by J.H. Hornimen, in 1908, as a memorial to Queen Victoria. Built of white makrana marble it is situated in Victoria Park, now known as Begum Hazrat Mahal Park. The Victoria Memorial was built at a price of Rs. 1.30 lac, of which the statue of Queen Victoria, (since removed) in a sitting posture, alone cost Rs. 41,502.
Good
Its a good place and it is dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria. If you are a tourist then you can go there for taking rest. Otherwise nothing to see here.
Usually Victoria Memorial is an icon of Kolkata. But in the Begum Hazrat Mahal Oark in Lucknow, there is a small structure in white which is name Victoria Memorial. It is not a huge structure and does not have any Hall. But the white structure in the green surroundings looks attractive and the stone work is quite good.
Its not like the Victoria memorial in Kolkata as it seems from its name
Not only Kolkata, Lucknow also has its own Victoria Memorial. The Lucknow Victoria Memorial was created by J.H. Hornimen, in 1908, as a memorial to Queen Victoria. Built of white makrana marble it is situated in Victoria Park, now known as Begum Hazrat Mahal Park.
