When you want to witness the architectural grandeur of the British era, you must make a visit to the Constantia House. It is part of the renowned La Martiniere College, one of the premier educational institutions in the city. The building houses the tomb of Major Claude Martin, the French general who started its construction way back in 1785. Considered to be the largest European funerary monument in the country, the Constantia House exhibits an unusual mix of architectural styles.Timings: 08:00 am to 6:00 pm; every dayEntry Fee: Free
One of a kind in the whole world. Once you are connected to it, it will remain with you forever.
A hundred acres of land in the heart of Lucknow, maintained with love and care. If you are fortunate to meet the Principal, he will regale you with the history of the buildings and of his own ancestry. Mr. Mc Farland traces his family tree to a gang of horse thieves (that is what his family name translates to, in Scottish!).An interesting fact: this is the only school in the world to have been awarded royal battle honours for its role in the defence of Lucknow during the mutiny of 1857.Its a great school beautiful building very well maintained. Lots of activities happen. Saw beatiful horses there. Tourists are allowed till 5 pm
Its a very bad school, does not pay attention on students and teachers also use abusive language against students. I recommend you to not go in this school. I am studying in this school from 11 years, from nursery to class 9 and now I am thinking this time wasted with this school, now i am leaving this school. so, never join this school or your life will be wasted.
Wonderful experience, in terms of discipline and quality of education, sports.
Our group were taken here by a professional tour guide whilst on a guided tour of Lucknow. It is a private paying/boarding school, £2000-3000/year depending upon age. So for Indian families they would have to be professional people in order to afford the fees e.g. doctors, engineers etc.The history behind the creation of the school was very interesting. A French east India soldier captured and imprisoned by the British, eventually released to fight for the British left his house and money on the understanding that it be used to provide schooling.
School has not been able to develop a online platform in Last 2 years & give lousy excuses. They only find ways to extract fee without doing anything. School is living in its own whims & facies , living in its own world...... Getting obsolete..
Best ever school in india.

It is more than a school. The children are well developed both me mentally and physically. The best place to learn for the children.
It is an amazing place to visit. It is a school bit also an amazing place to visit. So beautiful and royal. A must visit place in Lucknow. please ask for the timings before visiting
It was nice experience in school.
No words can describe the place. Got to visit to believe its Magnificence.
It is 18th century college situated near cm awas ,
An architectural marvel that has been the foundation of the future of many bright minds of India. One of the oldest schools in our country, the La Martiniere continues to be an emblem of the rich heritage of Lucknow. I was fortunate enough to witness its magnificence from close quarters.
How does it feel being a student at one of the (if not the) prettiest schools/colleges across the country? Let me tell you. It feels awesome!!!
One of the most beautifully conweved monuments of our country, aesthetically awesome. Must visit for anyone who loves monuments and heritage.
Good place
Its the place which no MARTINIAN will deny to visit.
The Constantia House, is currently a piece of the grounds of the La Martiniere College, one of the chief schools of the city. This manor was worked by an officer of the British Army, Claude Martin, in 1785 and filled in as a stronghold and also, with its guns and escape clauses and turrets.
I was at LMC Lko from 1957 to 1959, I was in Cornwallis house, l totally enjoye my short stay, we emigrated to the United Kingdom late 59, Currently living in the County of Kent.
The best school in the town, one of the best in India and recognized across the world. The standard of English is excellent, abundance of co-curricular activities. Focuses on all round development of students. Theres no burden of studies from the school. The student is polished on all the fronts of life, not restricted to only the academic front.
La Martinière College is an educational institution located in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh. The college consists of two schools on different campuses for boys and girls. La Martinière College (for boys) was founded in 1845 and La Martinière Girls College was established in 1869. The Boys College is the only school in the world to have been awarded royal battle honours for its role in the defence of Lucknow during the mutiny of 1857•
Amazing campus, seeped in history and prestige. The rolling greens, the flowing river and the grand architecture give it a surreal appearance.
Nice place and big campus
Heaven
It is a heritage structure 227 years old. and a College La Martiniere College lucknow was established in 1845 in accordance with the will of the owner.
This place is awesome as I stayed 5 years at this place and it has a very beautiful architecture which is 200 years old
Sat here once. I felt out of place. Like I was an object moved from its usual place. I never sat there again.
Very Good..!!!
The La Martinière Schools were built (posthumously) by Major General Claude Martin. The more I read about him, the more fascinated I get about his diverse talents, flair for art, and entrepreneurial acumen.Claude Martin was a self made man of humble beginnings and many talents. He came to India with the French East India company and because of his talents and strategic aptitude , the Nawab of Awadh “hired” him.During his time in Lucknow, he amassed a lot of wealth and land. As an avid educationist, he willed most of his fortune to the creation of educational institutions in Lucknow, Calcutta and his hometown Lyon, France. This is the only school in the world which has been awarded royal battle honors for it’s role in the defence of Lucknow during the mutiny of 1857. (Battle honors I usually given to individuals)◽I highly recommend it because of its historical and cultural significance in Lucknow.
One of the best colleges in the town. The college is well maintained. Students are also prone to do the things as per the rules set by the college management.Student learn a lot of things here. Child learns to be more organised, disciplined, self dependent, etc.The campus is humongous & there are a lot of extra curricular activities that students opt as per their respective interest.
With greatness of historical infrastructure and with very large campus colleges education goes parallel as its infrastructure.
A great place for children to enjoy their school life along with studies. BUT NEVER INDULGE IN ANY KIND OF FIGHT WITH THE BOARDING STUDENTS HERE. A huge playground for children to play. I myself studied here for 9 years. Particularly best school from class nursery to class 10th. The only problem is that the fee structure is quite high and can only be afforded by rich or upper middle class people. I would rate this school 8.5/10
The place is really fantastic.
One of the best school in lucknow
La Martiniere College. The names enough. Heaven on Earth..! Quality education and one of the best faculty in the country. Constantly in the top 10 schools of the nation. Need I say more?
Best place to study. You wont feel here like school, its really a home. Cant express in words🖤
Actually speaking, La Martiniere College has been my home for 24 years and I am very happy to say that students who come to La Martiniere College with an open mind and with education as their aim are doing very well. In this current generation, there is lots of stuff to distract the students and lead them astray (mostly due to the negligence of their parents) but for the students who have been through La Martiniere from the very beginning (Nur) and have passed out (12). I should say they can even do the impossible. Please send your children to La Martiniere College if you want them to turn into well carved all rounders, but dont expect the school (any school in the world) to fulfill the parents duties. Always remember the child is an extension of your entire family.Viva La Martiniere!
Best school in India
La Martiniere College, Lucknow. The Constantia building at La Martiniere, the construction of which began in 1796, contains the crypt of its founder, Major General Claude Martin. The school in itself has quite a story: it called upon its students - over sixty of whom participated - to assist in the conflict of 1857 when the Lucknow Residency was under attack. This also makes the school the only one to have been awarded blue and gold royal battle honors. In the Memorial hall right above the crypt - and around the bust of Claude Martin himself - tablets bear the name of students killed in battle, including those who participated in the First and Second World Wars.
Only curricular activities no study at all.Its a place of show off, solid looks from outside, great architecture, design,n building but hollow system in terms of study. But yes very stick rules, almost every activity is made to do in the name of co curricular activities nothing else.
My son stayed as a boarder here for 4yrs.From the exterior ,this is reputed school..but the juniors are inhumanly beaten, abused n bullied by senior students. If the child tries to complain..the seniors will further bully him.Junior students are under extreme fear continuously..they are told ,that since they are juniors..they are supposed to bear all that. They are made to run errands for seniors..n even they snatch money of junior boarders n students. Its a very very serious issue ,thats being apparently ignored by management.By keeping the eyes closed ,any management cant escape such a big responsibility ,as of torturing young nurturing minds.Just old goodwill, isnt enough for reputation of any institution. Its a blot on whole education system. All those who went through these bullying n torturous incidents in past , kindly speak up for young children.
Started school at Dames Mart and finished at La Martiniere College, Lucknow, in the late 60s thru mid 70s, (Col. Daniel/Shaws time as Principals). An amazingly unique institution, one of a kind on a global scale, with enduring rituals and a spirit harking back to more than a centurys time span. Unforgettable years spent. Hail hail the name we own.......!!!

There are two La Martinière Colleges in Kolkata and three in Lyon. La Martinière provides a liberal education and the medium of instruction is the English language. The schools cater for pupils from the ages of five through to 17 or 18, and are open to children of all religious denominations. The schools have day scholars and boarders.
The best place for a childs development and education
Really nice both as a school and as a tourist place. The environment is nice and clean. The building is massive and will make you feel tiny in comparison.
Very bad school exams are starting at 16 th march 2020 all schools have finished their exams
Excellent, piece of history

It doesnt focus in the overall development of a child, its full of politics, the teachers arent very much helping and its definitely not worth the fees...also the children keep on getting involved in bad activities. This place is good only in terms of looks and pathetic in all other aspects.
Its infrastructure is good
Fabulous place
La Martiniere was , is and will always remain an elite institution, it is very different from other schools, academics are not only criteria of judgement but also Co-curricular activities, there are debaters, computer geeks, sports-persons etc etc and diverse variety of students, not only teachers promote various stuff but also the students take everything positively, and show zeal in everything they do.I can guarantee that in entire India , there are only 3% schools which provide such surrounding and good personality development of student, and La Martiniere is one of them.
Gadar movie was suited hera.. handpump scene👍...greate
La Martiniere College, Lucknow, established in 1845, was founded in accordance with the Will of Major General Claude Martin. college ground very huge. Available hostel in this college and college locate very peaceful and safe.

La Martinière College is a non-denominational private school in India (Kolkata and Lucknow) and in France (Lyon).La Martinière Schools were founded posthumously by Major General Claude Martin, in the early 19th century. Martin had acquired a large fortune while serving the Nawab of Awadh Asaf-ud-Daula and bequeathed a major part of his estate to establish the schools. His will outlined every detail of the schools, from their location to the manner of celebrating the annual Founders Day. The seven branches function independently, but maintain close contacts and share most traditions.La Martinière College, Lucknow was awarded a Battle Honour - Defence of Lucknow for the part the staff and pupils played in the Defence of the Residency at Lucknow during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 - the only school in the world so distinguished.La Martiniere Calcutta and La Martinière Lucknow consist of separate girls and boys schools, while the three in La Martinière Lyon are co-educational. The Colleges are day schools, but Calcutta and Lucknow have boarding facilities as well. Extra-curricular activities, including sports and community service organizations, are emphasized, and music and dance are included in the general curriculum.Hindi movie Ghadar starring Sunny Deol was shot here.
Iconic institute..extra large groundvery good reputation....
I have been a more than proud member of this school for 14 years of my life. The experience of studying in such a hallowed institution is the best I have ever had, and if I ever got the opportunity to live those 14 years once again I would do that happily.Vive La Martiniere!
Its not just a prestigious monument but its a workshop where highly accomplished talents get their right place below the arms of this building. And martinians dont need to boast about themselves because we are already sick of this formality. But if want some come get some.....
Actually this isnt my experience but a classmate of mine( currently 7th grade) told me that he stayed 4 months only at this school before shifting as the seniors are really abusive. Though it is said to be one of the best schools in that region, according to him, the boarders were caned using golf clubs on their thighs and everywhere Apparently he still even has the scars. If they complained, they would be in even more trouble from the seniors. They would apparently make him stay up all night receiving punishments and for most of his 4 months of hell he slept in a cupboard (by choice) since he was scared of the seniors . This school seems to have a lot of hype and good reviews but this is what I heard from an actual person who has been there. If somebody had gone through the same experience, please say so. AGAIN THIS ISNT MY EXPERIENCE BUT A classmates
Very nice place and surrounding, I missed the opportunity if not visited.
I love but that principal of this is too....... Bold and fees is so high that only rich type people can give I love it ........... Bye

The oldest and the most recognised and best school in Lucknow with a important historical background
A must visit monument.
La martiniere college is the best schoolAnd the best thing about it is that its a boys school so the boys know how to respect girls
La Martiniere originally named Constantia was the residence of Major-General Claude Martin, a wealthy Frenchman who arrived in India in 1751Claude Martin acquired his fortune while serving Asaf-ud-Daula, the nawab of Awadh & he built the grand building of La Martiniere.Claude Martin who died in 1800 was, according to his will, buried at Constantia. Thus, it became his palace - mausoleum.Martin also willed that his palace tomb should become a school for boys & named La Martinière in his memoryHe left money to open schools in Calcutta & Lyon, his hometown in France, as well.During the Indian Mutiny of 1857, against the British, the Principal, Masters & boys of La Martiniere played a unique role in defending The Residency which was under siegeIn 1938 as recognition of their role, the College was awarded colours or flag bearing the legend Defence of Lucknow, 1857.It is the only school in the world to be awarded a British battle honourMcGill University in Canada is the only other institution in the British Empire to be awarded the same honour, for its role in World War I.Facing Constantia is the Laat, a solid fluted column 40 m high with a cupola. It is said to be the grave of Claude Martin’s horse, or perhaps a lighthouse. In 1995, on the 150th anniversary, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, released a two-rupee postage stamp in honour of the schoolThis, again, is a mark of distinction that only a few other institutions in India enjoy. It is a flourishing educational institution, which is proud of its glorious past.

La martiniere collage is my second home and a best place to study .
Ragging is common in this school and the school has no concern for its junior students who are emotionally depressed and have peer pressure by senior students
