Its a very good and authentic Indian restaurant. I can recommend the Pepper Chicken Gravy and Kerala Fish Curry. Both delicious and not what youll usually find in New Zealand. They cook all meals fresh, so it can take 30 minutes for food to come. Enjoy

We went to this restaurant on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. This is by a long shot the best Indian food I have had in Wellington. Just go.

It’s ridiculous on how my family had to wait 40 minutes for some food to come out. And no explanation prior or after on why it took so long? And the staff were very rude, the place has definitely changed. Perhaps new owners or the lack of management. Was a lovely place before, now the customer service, wait times and food quality is very poor.

Truthfully didnt enjoyed the dish, like chilly chicken and paneer curry. Garlic nan was good. I am sure someone will respond saying this was the best available food in lower Hutt. But it gave me. Confidence in my own culinary skills, I too can make food like this. Might be its because I had regularly ordered and enjoyed good food in past.

Visited Chilli Masala yesterday had few Masala Dossais, Lamb Dossai and a Butter Chicken! Dossai bread was not up to the mark. I have had your food few times but yesterday it was poorly done!Butter Chicken tasted so bad and I am sure it was an old stock.You guys have always had good food but yesterday was one bad day!Out of 7 who visited, 5 guys are suffering with Diarrhea.

Good food, fair prices, comfortable environment and staff who are amenable without being gushy.

Kids food was not the best, and dont recommend eating lamb masala dosa filling was rubbish.

Went for dine in with all the excitement as the past experience was great. Ordered indo Chinese which came with cashews and with no salt. Noodles were half cooked added with tasteless chewy old chicken.Food was requested to be medium to hot, but was served to the tabe in condition that we have to help ourselves for salt and 🌶.Hospitality was bit weird, the lady came to the table with an expression as she will punch one of us but luckily she asked how the food is? I didnt want to be honest at that time so asked her to clear the table and left.

Go to GR8 TANDOOR down the road. might not be as famous but the food is actually food and not food colouring. you cannot name a more inconsistent place than here. You eat here once and are left chasing the high of good butter chicken, but each time it gets worse and worse so SAVE YOURSELF and go to Gr8 Tandoor.reply: why are you always so rude to your bad reviews? maybe take some constructive criticism on board instead of always being nasty and shutting the other person down?????

Food was delicious. Was hot and tasty. Can guarantee food will be good because it is always is. Lunch prices are awesome. Dinner quite a bit more. Was really busy so had to wait a wee while.Service ok. Could be a little bit more welcoming.

Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. Best curries we have ever tasted. Service and staff are fantastic too, especially Amit who is so friendly and helpful. When we are wanting advice on wanting to try something different, he takes the time to help us and his picks are always spot on. He is definitely one of the reasons we come back. Always has a smile and remembers our names. Top pick always for curry night.

Frankly speaking the ambiance was good and the staff are also good. But the table size is really small for 4 people. And lastly n the main thing food is not at all good. They were all bland even after we asked them to make it spicy. Expensive as well.

If you’re craving Indian food, then this place won’t disappoint.. Gud service, tasty dishes and clean surroundings..A bit pricey for the portion size .. medu vada was yumm..bonus points for chai in the kulaad..

The best Indian food Ive had in the Wellingtom region, if not the whole country! I highly rate this place! Me and a friend went for lunch last Saturday and we had the most lovely waiter! He recommended us a lamb dish and a paneer dish and both were amazing! Amazing service, amazing food and reasonable prices. I will be back soon!!!!!

We dropped in on a casual visit because we were aching for a really authentic Indian meal. We just settled for a commerners plain dosai.In less than 15 minutes the meal arrived and We must acknowledge to say it was good will be a complete understatement. This was great. Very crispy warm dosai served with red and white chutney and sambaru. Service was excellent too.We were so happy we visited the place. Good luck guys keep it up. Five stars without any doubts.

I went to this place for lunch with my friends. We order breads and curries . We found hair in the breads. We order some naan bread and we found hairs in naan bread, when i told them to replace they replace it but same thing happen again . And the curries were not good as well ..in the last i just wanna say i ll not come again and we pay the whole amount but it was just a wastage of money…

Hospitality staff came upto us, asking about how the food was. We didnt said anything but to pack the left overs. The guy at the front, asked the same question, I just said ok, I didnt say I was happy! Here is the screen capture from your online menu, it doesnt say anything about cashew nuts in the dish, until and unless you and you chef dont know the difference between Sesame seeds and cashew nuts!

Very rude and arrogant staff. Asked for a table away from the door. Free tables were available. No reserved signs on any of the tables. Advised us that we should have booked a table. Pathetic... 👎Reply:Double shame on you for not counting the guests properly.We never asked you to move any guests from any table. The guy said that he could have given us that table if we had booked beforehand.This proves that you guys are liars as well.We asked for a table away from the door which was opening frequently. We had kids with us. I guess you dont have kids as yet or you dont care where they sit. Otherwise you would have known better.If we were aggressive, we could have created a scene there in front of everyone. So again you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that.Also write how many tables were unoccupied and not reserved? And how many you offered us?

I dined in at Chilli Masala as we walked by earlier in the day and my sister had recommended the place. The restaurant was bustling with a wide range of people from different cultures which was impressive see.The staff was most inviting and accommodating by seating me immediately as he quickly cleared up the recently vacated table.I ordered a mango lassi and a glass of Pepperjack Shiraz whilst I looked over the menu which was extensive and impressive.My dishes I decided upon were the Masala Dosa and the Kerala Fish Curry both ordered Indian hot. The cuisine was amazing and so flavoursome and the diss was one of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommended with distinction!

Im your typical white New Zealander, which of course means I ordered Butter Chicken from this fine Indian establishment. Why would I dive into the spice pot when all the creamy goodness a man (or woman) could ever want or need can be found in this perfectly succulent dish. The chicken is as tender as Ben E. Kings smash hit single Stand by Me. The sauce, more creamy than an overpriced Mr. Whippy soft serve on a hot summers day. The Naan was smothered garlic which could or could not have been crushed into the bread by someones amputated arm stump but honestly it tasted amazing regardless of whether this is true or not. If youre a basic white New Zealander then look no further, this is the place for you. 11.66 out of 10.

I went this place for lunch with my family. Food and service was really bad. All curries was rubish. They just boiled the meat and add water. It was not even cook properly. We order some naan bread and we found hairs in naan bread, when i told them replace it they were not very happy. Finally when they replace i found anothor hair in naan bread again. we were not happy with there food and serive. very disappointment.

Always love the food here. Also loved the decorations they had for Valentines day! It was a very busy night but the staff did a great job getting to everyone quickly.

The food is good, but its always very very slow. Plan at least 45 minutes from ordering to receiving food. Better option is to just call ahead, and ask for takeaway.

Peppered goat curry (Indian hot) was absolutely delicious! Service was friendly and fast. Very attentive. Meal for six, vege and non-vege platters were good size. Naan breads were piping hot and buttery moist. Two butter chickens, a rogan josh, a mutter paneer, a peppered chicken and a peppered goat. All very tasty and moreish. Great spot for a family kai.

Amazing food! Ive ordered plenty of dishes from this place (meat and vegetarian) and they have all been perfect. They tend to be on the hotter side (which is great for me) but if you dont like it spicy be sure to order mild. Their Dosa are particularly good!

Good food, plentiful serving sizes. Very easy to book a table and adjust your booking online.Got a little loud later in the evening, but possibly due to being close to Diwali, and not excessive.

I really love this place and one of my favourite restaurant in the lower hutt. Food is amazing, staff is good, A lots of free street car parking.Service is bit slow but sitting is really worth because of food.

I have been to the restaurant several time before and I like the restaurant ambiance , customer service and food quality. Had lamb biriyani for first time from chilli masala and the review is mainly for that. 24$ for that lamb biriyani is not justifiable- taste , flavour . Quantity is normal.

Amazing food, with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. The service was very good. My dish was too spicy, the chef tasted it and straight away made a new meal (I just asked for a bit of yogurt to tone it down) cant wait to go back and try more!

The Best Biryani in New Zealand. Hands down.It is not microwaved like other places, always freshly made.

My favourite thing on the menu is the mixed platter - you get a taste of everything and the chutney that comes with it is a perfect pairing. The service is good and the atmosphere too but the food is amazing and they consistently deliver on good food. Highly recommended.

From the time, Ive moved to Wellington, i was longing for place with authentic Indian food (Mumbai style). I have tried tge Dahi Bhallas (though these are not on the menu anymore...I loved them). Tea (Chai)...I cant pen down how much Im in love with Chai from here ...I would drop by only to have the tea. Well in terms if the staff....they have been very warm and welcoming 🙏🙂...none the less have always been prompt in their service. Methi Matar Malai is definitely a MUST TRY💞Amit...is definitely and undoubtedly a STAR 🌟...He is definitely welcomes guest with a very warm heart..❤ and even provides proper explanation for the spice levels.
