A small museum with two buildings and a total of three viewing rooms in both buildings. In the museum, by and large, there is not much to see. Since this Order is a functioning organization they provide for public viewing at additional charge under the pretext of two excursions at £ 12 each: in one building - a meeting room; and one room in the chapel, - it is in any circumstances would be difficult to call it a good value for money or reasonable to have it as two separate tours. The community was organized in the 10xx and positioned itself as a community for the provision of medical services, but as is often the case with similar orders such as the Jesuit and the like, a banal way of enriching themselves on medical services inaccessible at that time, kind of soft power, which is confirmed by their exhibition, mentioned the wealth of the order and the use of jewellery in decorating buildings, cant imagine that jewellery is critical for medical treatment; the military orientation of the order declared in the exposition, most likely, implies the looting inherent in such institutions at that time. It was a great discovery for me that the hospital museum that I saw in Valletta, Malta was their property, sounds like they are everywhere.

The museum tells the story of the Order of St John. A history that goes back almost a thousand years. This order spend their lives caring for and protecting sick people, starting from the first hospital in Jerusalem in 1080, then a network of hospitals and in modern times through the St. Johns Ambulance. There are guided tours available on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 11am and 2.30pm and Id highly recommended it. The guide went through the aforementioned history including the now defunct military arm and a lot more. The guide has access to parts of the museum not normally open to the public such as the grand hall which is fantastic. Well worth a visit for those interested in history

The museum is tucked away at St Johns Gate and is easy to miss - but dont let an opportunity to pop in pass you by!Combining medieval history with the modern day, the museum tracks the long and turbulent history that defines the Order of St John.

This is a hidden gem in this part of London. I went on the guided tour and learnt a lot about the rise and fall of the order both in this country and abroad especially Malta. The order dates back to the First Crusade. It was re-established in England by Queen Victoria and it is now more famous for the St Johns Ambulance which is a volunteer first aid organisation. The museum and rooms themselves are very interesting and then it is a short walk to the Italian Gardens and the Priory Church and Crypt. This is definitely worth visiting and going on a guided tour around

I popped in here this afternoon having some time to kill. This is a nice, compact and very informative free museum about the St Johns movement.I had a fascinating visit which was very illuminating and covers everything from the foundation of the order as a mediaeval military organisation through to the modern day medical experts.

The Museum at St John’s Gate has some fantastic exhibits such as armour, and a bronze cannon given by Henry VIII, furniture, ceramics, silverware & textiles. In 2009, the Museum had a £4 million Heritage Lottery Funded redevelopment. The redesign also renovated more of the lost historicalTudor building. This is like taking time travel backwards and seeing things from a bygone age and what came out of it is a wonderful service the St. Johns Ambulance service doing a great job.Well worth a visit and one of those attractions in London so easy to miss, and a real treasure to see.

Lovely, friendly museum. Very small and slightly confusing curation - theyve tried to cram in a lot of stuff, appealing to adults and children alike! Follows the progress of the St Johns Ambulance from its formation in 1099 to (almost) the present day - theres a lot to cover in just three rooms. That said, its free and has a small shop - well worth a look if youre in the area.
