My husband and I really loved this place!!We got there kind of late on a Friday night and were going to just order takeout, but the server informed us it was fine and we had plenty of time. Very unusual for a restaurant about to close within the hour.We tried the Buffalo Bites for an appetizer and I cannot recommend them enough. The ranch dressing is homemade and the best Ive ever had!For our meals we tried the Crispy Tofu special (cornmeal crusted tofu, creamed greens and a quinoa pilaf) as well as the Avocado Reuben which was piled high on delicious bread. Both were wonderful! And lets talk prices! Where we live these meals would easily cost double the prices at Root and the food was so good we would have gladly paid it. But everything was $10. It is mind blowing that food this good can also be so reasonably priced! There were only 2 servers, but they worked so well as a team and kept everything going smoothly, you could tell they really loved what they do and that made for such a good vibe!Definitely dont skip this spot if youre in Lancaster!

I truly enjoyed this all Vegan restuarant and bar. Rob the owner was also the cook, we were greeted by Ms. Kate and her service was amazing. The entire decor and atmosphere with the music was great. Then came the meal, the special pizza was just right. My spouse, the non vegan ordered the fries. They were fresh and well made. Thia place is ALL vegan, down to the bar, prices were food for the food and drinks. Definitely a must stop spot.

We *loved* it here! I had no idea what the prices would be for our giant portions of food, but we were *so* surprised our bill was less than $50 for 5 entrees including a kids item! The food was *delicious* (our omnivore friend agrees), and it was an amazing meal! Were coming back again on our next trip! The Po Boy was so good and I highly recommend it!

Great environment. Friendly service. The owner is usually there and passionate about his business. The food ranges from decadent to health-conscious. Everything is vegan! But even non-vegans can enjoy this cool spot. Open kitchen, lots of spread out seating and safety precautions are taken for a relaxing dining experience.Their French fries are brilliant. You’ll be surprised by all the flavors you can accomplish with plants. “Crab cakes,” burgers, ruebens, and more.Eat local, save the environment and eat tasty food. Win-win-win!

Love the atmosphere and playlist. The marble cake was absolutely bomb! Like Im down in Bmore and wouldnt mind casually taking the 80-min ride to get this cake. The other major winner for me was the po boy. Crispy, battered mushrooms with a hint of seafood flavor was on point. The Big Mic made me giggle bc of the bun to burger ratio, but then my friend reminded me that Big Macs have tiny patties, too. Its a skip for me, tho. I think I wouldve liked the sloppy joe pizza more if it was with meat crumbles instead of lentils and mushrooms. There also wasnt enough cheese or sauce for it to feel like pizza. It wasnt bad, but calling it a sloppy joe set the bar too high. Overall, if in the area, Id return for a meal, but would for sure make a special trip for dessert.

The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was some of the best, most unique tasting food Ive had in a long time. Its all vegan here too, but without the high prices that a lot of other vegan places have. Highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area, in the area or someone who wants a unique eating experience. We had the Big Mic, mushrooms and figs, an incredible salad and some absolutely delicious cupcakes. If you wants beers or drinks too, they have a long list on tap.

Huge selection, tasty, excellent dressings, awesome bread, and fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, the “flash fried” oyster mushrooms were undercooked and therefore tough as rubber and also overly coated with deep fried batter. Too much grease: so I just ate the sandwich without them. I was asked how the food was way too late.

The menu is superb, very tasty and satisfying. We had a feast with so many options that pleased the palate of vegans and the not so vegan. The place decor and sitting area also welcoming.I am not sure if we got there a lil too late on a long day for all at the restaurant, while our waitress was engaging there were more moments in which others were not as much. We also had an accident with one of our kids and the assistance was distant and detached, with minimal diligence to help...

This was the most painful experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. My husband and I are locals and enjoyed our visits to Root pre-COVID, so we were excited to bring our friends who are visiting from Arizona and are vegan. We sat at the bar and the service was a little slow, but we were understanding since there were a few tables and only two bartenders/servers. What we couldn’t get past was one of the guys on the line who kept coming out to pour shots for him and the other staff in the open kitchen. My husband and I have been in the restaurant industry for years - we’ve had our fair share of shifties and even sipped on something during the slow end of our shifts. This was not what was going on here. The entire kitchen staff visibly took at least 3 shots during our 2-hour wait for food. We also noticed they had a full staff and not too many tickets on the line, but still could not keep probably because they were intoxicated. We also weren’t the only group to notice, a couple near us was also loudly complaining that the kitchen was too drunk to get the food out. Not to mention, there was a guy who appeared to be another staff member passed out on a couch next to the bathrooms. The servers seemed visibly annoyed with the BOH but didn’t do anything to try to rectify the situation (to be fair, IDK how I would’ve handled it either). We ended up canceling our food after being told it would be another 15-20min and just paid for our drinks. The fact that they still charged me $1 for my seltzer water from the gun made me lol. I am truly embarrassed a restaurant like this even exists in our city.TLDR: Kitchen staff were visibly intoxicated and had enough time to stop to take three shots, but not get our food (2 sandwiches and a noodle dish) out in two hours. Guy, who appeared to be another staff member, passed out on a couch next to the bathroom. Left without food. LANC VEGANS DESERVE BETTER.

This place is incredible. It is clean, the old world architecture was preserved, the kitchen is open and you can watch your food being prepared. There is table service, bar seating, and a back area with tables and couches. The menu has many options for vegetarians, vegans, plant based diets and you dont know the difference. The food is prepared fresh and is incredibly tasty. The fries are hand cut, thick as your finger, and done just right. The staff was great, the chefs were great, and Jiya was perfect. This place is a must try for couples, kids, or groups.Went back on Sunday, still 5 stars.Jaya (spelled correctly this time), provides excellent customer service and is a great young lady. Food is good, staff is friendly, except for one woman (short, wears glasses) from among the staff who was extremely rude. I was wearing a mask, had a pickup order and was looking for a charging point as there was something urgent I needed to get done. The woman with glasses denied from letting me use the charging point and asked me go somewhere behind. I honestly didnt want to be at that place even for a second, but due to the urgency of work I had to. I then managed to find a charging point nearby and used it; she seemed to have a problem again so she acted to pass by and kicked my laptop charger. She was constantly staring at me angrily and gossiping with the other staff. This was an extremely horrible experience, dont think will ever visit this place again or would recommend it to anyone.

The ambience at root was down to earth, friendly, and remarkably conducive to conversation. In fact, we saw two strangers at different tables strike up a conversation based on no more than a similar palette. The food was vegan and any old Joe wouldnt miss their meat and cheese. Speaking of which, the vegan cheese was a hit. The seitan crumble on supreme pizza was best seitan I ever had and the Cuban was truly a work of plant based art. With a spicy garlic aoli (sans the eggs) and layers of soy and wheat meat substitutes, it was even better than many meat filled Cubans of my past. 10/10 and zippity doo dah, this place gets my recommendation.

Tye tomatoes and lettuce were bright and clean and the taste went together so well. For the main course I had the tacos and they were delicious. The rice was cooked perfect, the tortillas were nice and soft and the slaw was fantastic! My guest got the big mic and wow... it was so good. The fries were fresh and tasted like they were made right before they were saved, but they werent greasy at all. Even the ketchup tasted fresh. I for sure will be here again! Two very cool things they do is change the menu every couple weeks and they do not use straws unless its for tthe kids menu, which is great! The food does take a good amount of time but you can see into the kitchen and everything is made tto order so it is worth the wait. The art on the walls is also very unique and cool.

The food and atmosphere was fine. Maybe we just didn’t order the right stuff. But, I’m convinced I could recreate the same meal with minimal effort at home. And I don’t mean because I’m a good cook - but because it was rather bland. The kitchen seemed afraid of spice and flavor. The cauliflower wasn’t spicy - at all. The tofu tasted like sesame ginger rather than ginger curry. And the Brussels sprouts had no flavor and a lot of chew. But I guess it was right for the cheap price. So that was nice. Our server was nice and involved just enough without being over the top or distant. However - they use the square app with an iPad for bill paying - the person who cashed us out at the table watched the screen as I was prompted to leave a tip - talk about tacky. There was nothing wrong with the meal. But we weren’t blown away. There are tastier places that include vegan options scattered all over the city.

L-O-V-E. We just discovered Root in February 2020 after an incident at a place in Hamburg stating they could accomodate my food allergies & then - well - nonsense ensued. I was incredibly upset & my husband said, Lets go get coffee & find some other place. He did a search on my phone while I was regrouping in the bathroom at Starbucks. So - we took the trip to Lancaster. We also discovered that the Lemon Street Market was just a street over. I cant recall what Ive gotten each time. I know I usually try to get something mushroomy, as it seems like this mushroom lover gets jipped out of mushrooms everywhere she goes. Throughout the nonsense of 2020, weve gotten take away & eaten our food at parks or trail heads to the Appalachian Trail with our dog, who is my Emotional Support Animal. I have several chronic illnesses & he helps me with several tasks. The last time we were there many months ago, they had a brunch that I knew my husband would love. We live at least 40 miles away. I spoke with Kate & she actually made accomodations for us so that we didnt have to rush to get there before 2 pm, when brunch ends. Parking is a little crazy, so I popped in to make sure where we were was ok. I mentioned Simon, my ESA, & they welcomed him in with open arms & smiles behind their masks. He is cleared to go into the hospital with me for my many procedures & surgeries. I never push the issue with allowing him in restaurants or stores, but am willing to show the documentation from my doctors. My husband - who usually eats meat, dairy, & gluten - absolutely loves Root. He said that they have never disappointed us yet & it is well worth the drive to get a really good sized plate of whatever you pick. It stinks that in the past few weeks, our visits to other restaurants claiming to cater to my allergies, has been contaminated with dairy or gluten - & I have been sick more times than I can count - even sitting right at their tables. This has never happened with Root. (Or when I DIY my anti-inflammatory & gluten-free WFPB diet at home.) I am very grateful for Root. Im not sure if it would be a good thing or not if we lived closer...lol. As far as deserts go, they are either there or they are sold out. But, if they are sold out, you can just pop over to Lemon Street Market, if they are open & grab yourself a sweet treat.

After having a nearly 10 minute conversation with a lady to formally establish a reservation over 24 hours in advance, I arrived to a man confronting my party of 8 to say there are no seats available and that we would have over an hour of waiting. Humiliated, we had to sit at the back of the restaurant near a bunch of boxes and upside down chairs when we had planned to celebrate the birthdays of two closed loved ones who follow a strict vegan diet. Unfortunately, I had made the mistake of hoping this place would offer us a proper vegan birthday celebration on this very momentous occasion.
