Dehli Gate is one of the old 12 gates of walled city Lahore gate which was built in Mughal emperor time. Through this gate you will enter in walled city of Lahore and see beautiful streets ( in our language we say galyaat ). Interesting thing is that under this gate theres a Pakistan tourism office so you can get more knowledge about this gate and the tour guide of whole walled city Lahore.(Hope you like my Review ) 🙂
Always a pleasure to roam around Delhi gate and truly experience what the real Lahore is. With a vibrant array of street vendors and probably some of the most unique people you’ll come across. There is a mini food square as you go further into Delhi gate but aside from that you can experience almost any kind of Lahori street food and shopping. The beauty of Wazir Khan Mosque is visible from almost anywhere but the only thing to be vary of that around 3pm onwards the area becomes EXTREMELY crowded and congested so if you are fine with that, you’ll definitely enjoy your experience.
This is one of the many gates of the historic part of Lahore city. This can easily be a starting point for your tour to the old city. This gate is the closest to Masjid Wazir Khan, and is easily accessible from the circular road. This has pedestrian and cycle/motorcycle access only. They do however allow Rikshaws but given how congested it is indoors, it is best to walk. While entering theough this door, you get a good vibe of being transported back in time to the era when this used to be an entrance to the city. The door leads to a congested market place, and the best time to tour would be early morning while the market is still closed and you can enjoy the heritage this place has to offer. Masjid Wazir Khan is at a 5 minute walk. Once you enter from here, you can easily visit other gates using google maps.
Dehli Gate is one of six remaining historic gates of the Walled City of Lahore, Pakistan. Delhi Gate and the adjacent Shahi Hammam were restored in 2015 by the Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan. The Delhi Gate was originally built during the Mughal period, and is now known as the Chitta Gate, about 100 metres west of the new Delhi Gate. The gate was named after Delhi since the gate opened east, in the general direction of that city. During the Mughal era, the gate served as the main gateway to Lahore, and its doors were shut every evening. The surrounding area includes several buildings of historical significance including the 17th century Wazir Khan Mosque, Shahi Hammam, and havelis. Delhi Gate also served as Union Council 27 (UC 27) in Tehsil Ravi of Lahore City District. The gate was once part of Lahores city walls, which were torn down by the British after the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The gate itself was also destroyed by the British, but was reconstructed in the 19th century under the British Raj. Following the Partition of British India, the gate housed a girls school. The gate is mentioned by Rudyard Kipling in his 1891 short story The City of Dreadful Night. Lahores famous Zamzama Gun was originally placed at Delhi Gate, but was relocated by the British to a site in front of the Lahore Museum. The gate is a two-story structure which contains space for ten to twelve shops. The gates rooftop can be accessed by a staircase.Restoration undertook a project to renovate the gate that was funded by the government of Norway. Goals of the project were to conserve not only the gate, but also the nearby 17th century Wazir Khan Mosque, as well as adjacent the Shahi Hammam.
Historical bazar, with actual markets and historical places located in it. Very good place for families to explore. Must go Shahi Hammam while youre there.
Entrance to the walled city of Lahore during the British empire was led through 13 gates, out of which six remain. The Delhi Gate is one of these famous landmarks. The landmark of Delhi Gate is the southern pathway that leads to the old city of Delhi. It was restored in 2015. A crowded Bazar is found at the Delhi gate with a lively atmosphere. The place gives an authentic vibe about the culture of Pakistan, and the streets of Lahore filled with locals represent the nation.
A must visit place for everyone. The walled city has its own unique style and standard. People from all walks of life should visit and taste the food and see the old architecture. In Dehli Gate you must visit Masji Wazir Khan, its an amazing experience. Must try following places for food.1 - Hero Bhai Tikki Walay2 - Chand Bhai3 - Arif Sweets ( Halwa Puri )4 - Khalifa Bakers NanKhatae5 - Mamu Tikkiyon Walay6 - Das Kulcha

Yes place is historical and there are alot of old histories there, reality of lahore according to old era but one thing that irritate me is that really a crude place. Many hustle and bustle is there. The place is not fit for smooth people very very very hustle and bustle place. At least I think that the people should avoid from biking in the market
Among the thirteen gates of walled city Lahore, Delhi Gate was the most important of all the gates because the Mughals used it while travelling from Delhi to Lahore Fort. That is why the straight passage leading to Lahore Fort from this gate came to be known as ‘Royal Trail’ or Shahi Guzargah. Now imagine the past glory coupled with this gate, the royal guards standing at the gate, Mughal entourages passing through the streets and people leaning over the balconies and jharokas to take a glimpse of their royals, kings and queens and showering flowersYou will find gates to the cities in every walled city in the world. City gates were traditionally built to provide a point of controlled access to and departure from a walled city for people, vehicles, goods and animals. City gates were also used for defence, security, health, trade, taxation, and representation, and were correspondingly staffed by military or municipal authorities.Interestingly, the city gate was commonly used to publicise public information such as announcements, tax and toll schedules, standards of local measures, and messages by the palaces or forts. The public was gathered at a gate and announcements were made there by the courtiers and guards. The gates of a city were heavily fortified, ornamented with shields, sculpture or inscriptions, or used as a location for warning or intimidation. They were also used for displaying the heads of beheaded criminals or public enemies. If we were living in those times, we could have experienced the real sense of a city gate.

Delhi Gate (دہلی دروازه) is one of six remaining historic gates of the Walled City of Lahore, Pakistan. Delhi Gate and the adjacent Shahi Hammam were restored in 2015 by the Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan. Dehli or Delhi Gate is situated in front of Kotwali (کوتوالی) near Railways Station. The gate provides you a glimpse of hustle bustle life. Vendors are selling their variety of goods. Gate is the way towards Chitta gate (چٹا گیٹ) and Great Masjid Wazir Khan. The gate was once part of Lahores city walls, which were torn down by the British after the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.The gate itself was also destroyed by the British, but was reconstructed in the 19th century under the British Raj. Nice to see Lahore gate for city in old ages. One of gates of Lahore
Walled city authority has done some good restoration work here. Good place to try historical taste of walled city gourmet. Many historical monuments such as Shahi Himam, Wazir Khan mosque Sunehri Mosque are also near by.
We went to see if there was the newly introduced force to maintain traffic and order, but there was nothing and it was the same chaotic as always.
Amazing historical place. This gate served as entrance gate for the city of Lahore for convoys or passengers coming from Dehli.
This is a historical place, and due to whole sale dealers and markets this is an over crowded place. Parking is also an issue, also a lot of roads are one way and you are unable to see one way board due to huge crowed. The crowed time is from morning 8am to 11pm.This is a good place to buy cheap curtains, rugs, ready made whole sale suits and you can buy 3piece suit at lowest price near china market at landa bazar road.
Great place to shop fresh spices, dried fruits nuts and more!
One of the few remaining gates of the ancient, walled city of Lahore, Delhi Gate is the one that in the olden days set out a road that took one to Delhi in modern-day India. However - and I would urge that you Google this stuff - the original gate was a Mughal construction. Then, the British - in their vengeful rage - tore the original gate down. So, what stands today is a British-era reconstruction at the site of the original. In fact, the gate looks more like a Victorian colonial administrators mansion than a gate to a walled city! That, I think, really sets Delhi Gate apart from most other gates. It - unto itself - is the hallmark of the cultural devastation that the colonization of the British wrought upon the Indian subcontinent - and, obviously, countless other peoples around the world. If youre a foreigner - especially if youre a British person - go to Delhi Gate. And submit an apology to the Pakistani nation and ponder what your ancestors did to us - and to many like us.Ive rated this 3 to highlight my protest against the unapologized-for tyranny and destruction of the British!
