Kuruvikulam Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple Head History:Kuruvikulam is located near Sankarankool in Tirunelveli district. Its ancient name is Patchi Lake. ‘Patchi’ means sparrow. ‘Tadagam’ means pond.Kuruvikulam is a natural and prosperous town. The Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is located in the center of the town. It is said that Goddess Meenakshi, who rules in Madurai, came here and blessed the people. Therefore Kuruvikulam is also known as South Madurai. There were 72 zamindars in Tamil Nadu. Of these the so-called Royal Zameen was the Zamindar of Kuruvikulam. This part of the land was ruled by the Pemmasani dynasty. It is said that there were no temples in Kuruvikulam about 400 years ago. Therefore, the landlord of Kuruvikulam in this area used to go to the Kalugumalai Murugan temple in a bow cart and worship.Kalugumalai Murugan Temple was under the administration of Ettayapuram Zameen. So he is the first to be honored there. So whenever the Kuruvikulam Zamindar went there, he had to wait for the Ettayapuram Zamindar and worship the deity. This made him very sad. Due to being inside the Ettayapuram Zameen temple for a long day, Kuruvikulam Zamindar was parked outside the temple.Disappointed by this, the landlord of Kuruvikulam decided to assemble his palace and build a temple at Kuruvikulam. If the temple is built like that, it needs a statue of the source to be placed in the sanctuary. So the Zamindar arranged to go to Kasi and bring the statue of Kasi Vishwanathar and the statue of Kasi Visalachchi. But the Lords account was different. The landlord was asleep that night. Then the Meenakshi goddess of Madurai appeared in her dream and said, “Why are you going to Kasi? Madurai Meenakshi myself am in a nearby well. Bring that idol and dedicate it in the temple you are building. ”How to find it? When the Zamindar asked, Circle with Garu in one place. Thats where I will be. The next day dawned. Zamindar with his army went to the place mentioned by Meenakshi Amman in a dream. On the way from Kalugumalai to Kayatharu, Karu circled over a well in the town of Chettikurichi. When he immediately went down to the well with the help of Chettikurichi pigs, he found the idol of Meenakshi goddess there. Zamindar brought the idol to Kuruvikulam to play the accordion. The idol was consecrated in the middle of Kuruvikulam town facing south.‘The goddess Meenakshi has come into the temple we have set up. The landlord was waiting to see what form Sokkanath would take.Once upon a time there were some boys playing outside the herd near the Kuruvikulam pond. Then in their eyes they saw many idols buried in the sand. They immediately went into town and brought the elders and showed them. Arranged to dig them up. Statues of Kasiviswanathar, Visalachchi and Sundareswar have been found in the soil. Thus they consecrated Sundareswarar as the source in the Kuruvikulam temple and Kasi Vishwanathar and Visalatsi in the Prakaram. The landlord was very pleased. ‘We decided to bring in Kasi Vishwanath and Visalachchi. But Meenakshi goddess came here to bless. At the same time, Kasi Vishwanath and Visalachchi have also come together. The zamindar subsequently made several returns to the temples. His heirs also built the temple and the prakaram and built the vehicles for the festival idols to come. Like Madurai, there are chariot roads and corridors around the temple. The festival is also held here during the festival in Madurai. Covering an area of about one and a half acres, this magnificent temple is a sight to behold. It is said that if you perform darshan in this temple, you will get the benefit of visiting Madurai Meenakshi Goddess and Kasi Viswanatha.
