Someswar Temple is situated in the southern portion of Sri Sarangapani temple. Legend is that the temple shared a larger space during initial construction, but later Sarangapani Temple adjacent to it occupied more space. The temple is one of the prominent Shiva temples in Kumbakonam.

Someswar Temple is a Padal Petra Sthalam (Sung by Gnana Sambhandar) There are 278 Padal Petra Sthalams (Sung by Great Saivaite Saints (Appar, Sundarar, Gna Sambhandar & Manickavachakar)Someswarar Temple, is in the heart of the Kumbakonam town, on the banks of Lotus Tank, by the side of the Kumbeswarar Temple. This is one of the 12 Shiva temples of Kumbakonam associated with the Mahamaham festival. The old name of this temple is Kudanthai Karonam. It is on the Southern side of the Sarangapani Temple. As per the Sthala Puranam, when holocaust ( Pralaya ) took place and everything on the earth was destroyed, Brahma, creatior sought the help of Shiva. Lord advised Him to collect sand from all holy places and make a pot using the nectar and fill it up with nectar. He was also advised to keep the Creation Seed ( Shrusti Beeja) in the pot and cover it with coconut and mango leaves and decorated with the holy thread. ( Typical Kumbam we use on all auspicious poojas at homes). He was further advised to keep the pot safely in a sling/net ( Uri in Tamil) so that it does not get tilted. Brahma did as advised and the Kumbam started floating in the flood and when it neared this place, Shiva appeared and broke the pot. The nectar started flowing out and a tank was created. This came to be called Chandra Pushkarni. Later the sling itself became a lingam and hence came to be called Sikkesar ( Sikkam means sling or Uri ). Another reason given for this name is that as He comes rushing to remove the sikkals ( the Tamil word for problems/difficulties) of His devotees, He is called Sikkesar.Since Chandra had worshipped here to get relief from some curse, the Lord came to be called Someswarar. ( Soma is Chandra ). Apart from Chandra, Jupiter also worshipped here. ( Due to this, this Lord came to be called Vyazha Someswara as Vyazha refers to Guru or Jupiter. Since Vishnu is also believed to have worshipped here, the Lord is also called Mallesar ( Thirumal is the other name of Vishnu). This lingam is in the Prakaram. There are three entrances to this temple. The most preferred entrance is the one where Kalyana Vinayakar is having the shrine . Must have darshan.

Kumbakonam Kasi Vishwanathar Temple: Thirukuttandaik Karonam is a place located in the Kumbakonam district of Thanjavur district on the north bank of the Mahamaka pond. In the time of Ramayana, in order to kill Raman Ravana, Rudramsam was worshiped here and Rudramsam was ascended. It is also known as Karonam because the Lord united the souls during the Great Flood. The site is also known as the Cause of the Ascension as the Lord embraced the Goddess Arad. At the time of the end of the world at the time of the deluge, Brahman had gathered all his creative work together and left it in a jug and safely carried it to the top of the Himalayas. The floodwaters reached the summit of the Himalayas and dragged the jug south. Eventually the ground shook on the south bank. When the water dried up the Lord broke the jug with his arrow and united it with the elixir within it. The place of worship of the Nava virgins. Ganges Yamuna Cauvery Indus Rivers Once upon a time people wash away all our sins Ask us how to get rid of our sins, Lord Kumbakonam is a place where all the rivers and rivers of Saptakanniyar are cleansed of sins so that the sins will be washed away once in 12 years. The place where Lord Kasi Vishwanathar arose under the name of Goddess Kasi Visalachchi. Cholanadu Cauvery is the 28th place in the south coast to receive the Thevara song sung by Thirugnanasambandar.

Arulmiku Somasundari Sameta Someswara (Kundankaikornam) Temple, Kumbakonam. This is the Lord Swayambu Lingam. The temple was built by the Cholas. This is the 91st Devaradhthalam of the 274 Shiva temples that have been worshiped by Lord Shiva.General Information:In 1964, the pilgrims made a different effort. One hundred and 100 people joined the five-chant chant Shivaaya Nama.Instead of wasting what was written, they piled up a hundred books in a vault and placed them in the temple. This compact box has been preserved for over 40 years.Dilapidation: When the immortal pitcher is broken, the scattered tirtha spreads to the floor. This field is named Chandrabushkarani. Over time the site has become extinct.Kumbakonam Someswarar temple can be seen on the peacock with the footwear on the peacock. The moon and Jupiter are worshiped in the temple of the same name. Therefore it is best to worship this shrine on Mondays and Thursdays. The temple has three pillars. Entering through the Rajagopuram, you can see the Ambassador and the Mangalyamani Ambika.Lord Shiva was given the name Malisar because of the worship of Ishwar. If you cross the threshold, you can see the Somnath and neo-lingual.If you come through the northern door, you can see Someshwara and Somasundari. This is the blessing of the Lord, even though it comes from the Ethiopia. In the inner hall, Somaskandar blesses. The walls of the sanctum sanctorum have eight figures of worship.Kanda has a lossAt this site, Nataraja Peruman shows up with Sivakami Amba in a separate shrine. He is known as the loser of the land. If you do not see him, he is the only person who has lost the name of the Lord.Head History:At one time, the Brahman repented and asked Lord Shiva to do my creative work after the deluge.Lord Shiva said to him, Now take the sand of the many shrines and mix it with elixir and make a magic wand. Fill the elixir in it.Put into it the seed of creation, which is the seed of all life. Put a coconut on it. Decorate it with marshmallows. Round the yarn in the kumbha.Put it in a furnace so that it does not sink into the flood. Archery to the bowl. The horde will go south in a flood. Then I will be there. ”Accordingly, the Flood occurred during the Flood. The Aquarius floated. Uri, who was the source of the elixir, fell. There appeared a lingam. The lingam was worshiped by the moon. Hence the name of Lord Somesvara.

This revision was one of the capitals of the Chola kings. Thirunavukkarasar, also known as Upper, a special revision of the Shivalingam, which had been hidden by another religion in the North, by fasting.
