Kumbakonam is a place where you throw a stone in any direction it will fall near a temple. There is a temple in every corner of the city.I went there to Visit the School where 96 was shot. A scene where Ram goes back. To the class where he studied with his love. As a big fan of the movie I wanted to visit that school. Then i roamed in the city and saw almost 5 Temples, where each temple was bigger than the other one.Kumbakonam was mesmerizing, The gateways to the temple are usually bigger than the temples.I didnt eat anything there, but did enjoy they different temples I visited. It is a must visit place if you are visiting Thanjavur.
Amazing architecture and the planning of mahamaman tank. The place holds kumbh mela.
Gurdwara Bangla Sahib was originally a bungalow belonging to Raja Jai Singh, an Indian ruler in the seventeenth century, and was known as Jaisinghpura Palace, in Jaisingh Pura, an historic neighbourhood demolished to make way for the Connaught Place, shopping district.[3]The eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishanresided here during his stay in Delhi in 1664. During that time, there was a smallpox and cholera epidemic, and Guru Har Krishan helped the suffering by giving aid and fresh water from the well at this house. Soon he too contracted the illness and eventually died on 30 March 1664. A small tank was later constructed by Raja Jai Singh over the well, its water is now revered as having healing properties and is taken by Sikhs throughout the world back to their homes. The Gurdwara and its Sarovar are now a place of great reverence for Sikhs, and a place for special congregation on birth anniversary of Guru Har Krishan.

Architects Eyes DelightAiravateswara temple is in a small place Darasuram. This is one of the Great Chola Temples( UNESCO heritage site) The other two are Brihadeeswara Temples in Thanjavur and Gangaikondacholapuram. The architecture of the temple is amazing. There are detailed carvings on every pillar. I cant stop admiring the expertise of the artisans involved in this construction.. A must see place for architecture lovers.Great Living Chola Temple 2The second of the three temples that constitute the Great Living Chola Temples (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Constructed by Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century CE, it is a Shiva temple that also pays credit to Vaishnavism and Shaktism. The temple is in a chariot structure, with an elephant and horse being the chariot pullers. The walls have amazing stories like the Brahma/ Vishnu competition adjudicated by Shiva. Also the Annapoorneswari sculpture is a stunningly realist one - can see why Shiva was smitten by her! The temple was destroyed and has been rebuilt over time. It can easily be seen in 2-3 hours with a good guide, and given how far away Darasuram is from other major towns, is usually not very tourist heavy.
This place is world famous. The festival names Mahamagam happens here.

Kumbakonam is notable for its number of ancient temples and due to this this is called Temple City.Kumbakonam is one of the ancient temple towns and among the top tourist places in India, flanked by the two rivers Cauvery and Arasalar, in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The name Kumbakonam means the Pot’s Corner. According to mythology, when the world was destructed due to the tsunami, Lord Brahma asked Lord Shiva, from where he can restart creation. He suggested him to make a magic pot with the sand collected from various sacred places and float it in the flood water. Kumbakonam is the place where the pot stopped and then Lord Shiva shot an arrow, which led to the spilling of some nectar on this place, and thus life was revived on the earth.Once ruled by kings, Kumbakonam rose to be a prominent city between the 7th and 9th centuries AD. The town reached the zenith of its prosperity during the British Raj and was named as Cambridge of South for the being the prominent centre of European education and Hindu culture. The grandeur of Tamil Nadu can be seen in the marvellous architectures and temples here. Many of the religious sites in Kumbakonam are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. There are around 188 sites in Kumbakonam. The town is well known for its prestigious educational institutions, carved Panchaloha idols, silk products, brass and metal wares. And the temples here are widely known for their exquisite pillars, imaginative drawings on walls, and mythological stories.Top 14 Temples to visit In Kumbakonam are as follow:Kasi Viswanathar TempleAdi Kumbeswara Swami TempleNageswaran TempleChakrapani TempleAiravathesvara TempleSarangapani TempleUppiliappan TempleMahalingaswamy TempleRamaswamy TempleDhenupureeswarar TempleSuryanarayana TempleKanjanurSri Naganathaswamy TempleKalyanasundareswarar Temple

In 20 mile radius so many temples r there & one vl need around 2 weeks minimum just to have hop-on hop-off visit. One area with lot of temples - TamilNadu has few more like around Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli. But Kumbakonam is pinnacle of chola architecture where every village has majestic temples with irrigation facility for public.
