The 100-year-old Ulania zamindars house in Mehendiganj bears witness to the history of Bakla, the region of Chandradwip, which was once a sanctuary for Portuguese-Arakan-Firingi-Bargi-Mug pirates. At various times, the Mughal generals of these pirates Shahbaz Khan, Aga Mehedi and others carried out operations with their mighty army. The former name of this region is Shahbazpur and the present name is Mehendiganj in their memory and victory memorial. The Sangram fort (probably built during the Aga Mehdi period in the village of Ramdaspur in the present day Bhola district became the middle of the 18th century) Sheikh Mohammad Hanif, the loyal commander of Shaista Khan. He attacked the Harmad-Mug-Bargis with his troops with the help of the locals. In successive attacks, these bandits become forever numb. As a reward for his heroism, Shayest Khan appointed Sheikh Muhammad Hanif as Sangram Kella and Subedar of the region. Sheikh Hanif Sangram moved a little away from the fort and settled near Kaliganj by planting uluban. This ulubanai later became known as Ulania.The perimeter of the settlement is bounded by a pipe hawley or a pipe wall. As a result, the word haoli of Ulania zamindars pipe is still popular.Sheikh Muhammad Hanif moved a little further away from this settlement and his next generation built a mosque resembling the Taj Mahal.Which in his next generation became more aesthetic in the construction of verandas and a pair of ghats in the pond. At the same time, a huge brick-surki wall was built at the site of Sheikh Muhammad Hanifs pipe hawli.As far as is known, the main building of Ulania zamindar house surrounded by three rooms was built during the time of Sheikh Hanif. A huge pond in front, several ponds at the back and side of the house, ghats paved with sand. In front of the Kachari house next to the main house, there is a two-storey entrance to enter the Dakbangla main house. All in all, there are various legends surrounding this house. The present government has announced the preservation of the site through the Department of Archeology. The locals demanded that this ancient tradition be upheld by implementing the governments announcement as soon as possible.Collected
