Situated about few metres from the intersection of Mount Poonamalle Road and the busy Arcot Road, this high-rise sticks like a sore thumb in a neighbourhood of otherwise low-rise buildings and quaint bazaars. And yet there is nothing sore about this place. Service is quick and efficient and niggling problems are attended to quickly. The breakfast spread is limited but its taste more than makes up for it. Both the bar ( Campari) and Avatar ( the restaurant themed on the eponymous sci-fi movie) have decent fare though the lighting in the latter felt a bit dungeonesque. Campari had a similar ambience; a tad darker with disco lights reminiscent of dance bars of 80s Bombay but nonetheless lively and comforting. The variety of complimentary snacks to complement the beer was mind boggling. Rooms are decent too and quite well-appointed except that the air-conditioner needed to be set at its lowest in order to feel comfortable. A holder in the bathroom for a hand-towel would have been thoughtful. ( the lack of one was cited as the reason hand-towels weren’t there). So would a modest collection of good green tea sachets. The décor is sort of faux-palatial but solid. If there is one thing I would do if I were in charge, it would be to up the lighting of the whole place a couple of notches. Still, the hotel offers a comfortable and peaceful stay for weary or the stopping-by types. Psst..the 4th floor has a massage chair in the lobby. Get yourself a free rub if you have any complaints.
