On Mondays, it is free. Obviously worthy to see it. There are many things to learn inside and there is a good exhibition about Old Kazimierz. Old and today’s Kazimierz met on photos.

My first visit to a Synagogue. I expected much more information but it was a nice one still. Once I started reading the information boards, it was exciting. Entry point should be clearly shown. Ticket is 12 Zlaty as far as I remember. Nice one to visit if u never had visited a Synagogue. The 2 guiding people inside will help u with directions. Reception person also helpful, ask for info brochure.

Synagogue is now a museum. Inside are small parts of original interior and couple of artifacts related with Judaism. There are tablets explaining rituals and their relation to history of Jews. In the centre is a short exhibition about Cracows rabbis. You could spend here 30 - 90 minutes.

Real nice place and interesting piece of history.Even if a sad period of the past blackened it, this district is a true marvel to watch and explore. Lot to learn, lot to see, lot to taste. Krakkow would not be the same without it.And this building really makes the district to be what it is.Thhank you for the things we learnt here!

A small museum in a former synagogue, not really worth the price.Pretty nice from the outside

Close distance to Jewish festival and life in Kazimierz. The photograph show of combining the old and now of Kazimierz streets completely draws my attention. I crossed by several scenes in the picture already. I especially enjoyed the story of the iron store man. While his district becoming more dilapidated per day, he said and I quote “you need to be happy with what it is, because it always could have been worse.” Many other artists also noted their preferred corner and street, which directly served as classier travel notes to us. :) I also learnt about some Jewish festivals, rituals when people die, etc. Small details shed light to a day-to-day Jewish traditional way of living.

Very well preserved synagogue, we took a walking tour there and learned of its history, its a sad one.

Old Synagogue is an Orthodox Jewishsynagogue in the Kazimierz district of Kraków, Poland, in Yiddish it was referred to as the Alta Shul. It is the oldest synagogue building still standing in Poland, and one of the most precious landmarks of Jewish architecture in Europe. Until the German invasion of Polandin 1939, it was one of the most important synagogues in the city as well as the main religious, social, and organizational centre of the Kraków Jewish community. In 1794 General Tadeusz Kościuszko spoke from the synagogue to gain the Jewish support in the struggle for Polish independence. A plaque in the entrance hall commemorates this event:The Jews proved to the world that whenever humanity can gain, they would not spare themselves. – General Tadeusz Kosciuszko The Synagogue was built in 1407 or 1492; the date of building varies with several sources. The original building was rebuilt in 1570 under the watchful eye of an Italian architect Mateo Gucci. The rebuilding included the attic wall with loopholes, windows placed far above ground level, and thick, masonry walls with heavy buttressing to withstand siege, all features borrowed from military architecture. There was further reconstruction work in 1904 and in 1913. The Old synagogue is a rare, surviving example of a Polish Fortress synagogue. The synagogue was completely devastated and ransacked by the Germans during World War II. Its artwork and Jewish relics, looted. During the occupation, the synagogue was used as a magazine. In 1943, 30 Polish hostages were executed at its wall. The Old Synagogue was renovated from 1956 to 1959 and currently operates as a museum. It is a Division of the Historical Museum of Kraków, with particular focus on Krakóws Jews. The exhibits are divided into themes dealing with birth, prayer rituals, diet, divorce and death. The beautiful womens prayer room, which dates from the 17th century, is often used to hold temporary exhibitions.

Not much information about Jewish stuffs. Thanks to the photo exhibits that made our visit here a bit less boring.

A good way to know Jewish, there are exhibiting old stuffs which they used to use. And the tradition of the people even from a kid, how they grown up and studied. Also history about the museum and synagogue. Theres audio guides, you can rent, polish, English and Dutch.

Got into synagogue for free as it was a Monday where we ran into a guide and went on a free tour. Its not a lavish building but as its the first synagogue, its worth a visit.

What a beautiful place!

Interesting place to gather some information about the Jewish culture and traditions. Display of ritual and religious object with a thorough explanation of the high times in the calendar which require special liturgies. Interesting explanation of the lives of important Rabbis and how the Kraków Jewish community came to grow. The architecture of the Synagogue is very elegant dating back to the Renaissance

As part of a walking tour this historic site, which is at the centre of the Jewish story in Krakow is worth a visit. Some history and context helps the visitor understand the Jewish faith.A walk round and read of the exhibits takes probably an hour at most.

Yes this is another history of good restored synagogue, managed and kept by local polish guy who is very nice and very passionate who loves the jewish faith. Should you visit? Yes of course, ans enjoy good ice cream too.

You travel back in time when you visit this old Polish synagogue, the place of worship for many Jewish people before the 2nd world war. Today it is a museum explaining the history of Polish Jews over the centuries. 40 % of the Polish population were Jewish and most were eliminated but Nazi Germany during the war. Shadows of the past speak to you as you walk around the synagogue and you try to understand why......

If youre only visiting Krakow and wont make it to Warsaw, then this museum provides some information on Jewish life in Poland. However, if youre going to be in Warsaw, the POLIN museum is more comprehensive and this museum could be skipped if one doesnt have much time.

Worth a visit if you are in Krakow. You will probably spend about an hour there and entry costs 10 zloty. There is not currently much mention of womens contribution to Jewish life in the city though.

Very informative bout way of living especially the Jewish way of life can’t understand why they were hated so much by Hitler n his cronies the folk we met were lovely humble n thankful perhaps living in a troubled country like Ireland where catholic’s n Protestants kill n maim just because they r someone who the other doesn’t agree

I love the way its designed, interesting that it is below the normal level of the road. I guess its very old, hence the name. A worthwhile visit. Plenty of history and culture facts guaranteed.

Very nice museum with a great audio tour for lots of information about the Jewish religion and history of the place. Audio tour takes about an hour and a half.

Both non Jewish with little knowledge of the local history, my partner and I found the pre recorded audio tour very interesting and educational, it added a lot of meaning to the fantastic range of artifacts on show with some tales specific to the Old Synagogue. Would recommend to anyone visiting the city with an interest in Judaism with a specific focus on Polish and Cracovian Jewish history.

Old Synagogue has a museum nowadays and it represents items and history from jewish religion. It has lots of items, descriptions, information and museum is quite interesting, more interesting than I expected.Infront of the old synagogue there are lots of restaurants and also a book store where you can find books and other stuff. If you are a typical hungry tourist, Id recommend a restaurant called Avenue which is close to Synagogue.

It is a museum which offer a lot of thorough and detailed information about the history of the old synagogue and jewish traditions in general but in my opinion it can be skipped. Nothing to be missed.

Free entrance on Mondays!!! You will need 20 mins to visit and there are some interesting things to learn especially if you are religious. Not much to see though

Alta Shul in Yiddish, Jewish Gem from fifteenth century. Go Poland for letting our culture grow with all the beautiful teachings that took place here. It feels magical to enter this place.

Nice place to visit and know more about history and culture of Jews in Krakow. Is a small museum, but I recommend it.You need to pay an entrance fee.

To be honest, not much to see here. Also, it is not used as a synagogue anymore. Nothing more to say really.

Photos in local surroundings. Synagogue. although there is a ticket kiosk, bypass this down stairs. Lots of info. but felt like exhibition could be a bit more striking, with relevant info a bit more obvious. There is alot of text for no real reason. The most interesting bit for me was the fact it sadly lost its roof to the Nazis, but i couldnt see any photos or reconstructing or how it affected the local people. perhaps it was too painful.... I dont know

To be honest I cant review it as being total idiot I went there on Saturday just to discover its shabas. Meaning the place is closed on Saturdays. So the only advice I can give you, plan visiting Kazimierz on non staurday day 😊

Oldest and largest Synagogue in Kraków. Unfortunately, it was heavily damaged during WW2, and was not really able to rebuid its exposition. Museum workers are helpful and friendly.Still, most tourist choose Remuh Synagogue.
