The promulgation of Regulating Act of 1773 by the King of England paved the way for establishment of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Calcutta. The Letters of Patent was issued on 26 March 1774 to establish the Supreme Court of Judicature at Calcutta, as a Court of Record, with ‘full power and authority’ to ‘hear and determine all complaints for any crimes’ and also ‘to entertain, hear and determine any suits or actions against any of His Majesty’s subjects in Bengal, Bihar and Orissa’.Sir Elijah Impey (13 June 1732 – 1 October 1809) was appointed as the first chief justice of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William in Bengal, Chief Justice of the Sadr Diwani Adalat. His presence at the Court ensured a few notable cases. In 1775 he presided at the trial of Maharaja Nandakumar, who was accused of forging a bond in an attempt to deprive a widow of more than half her inheritance.It was at the insistence of Impey that a new Ghat was constructed a few yards to the north of Prinsep Ghat. This Ghat was specifically designated for the use of ‘high ranking’ British officials, especially Judges who were posted in India by the Empire to step on the Indian soil. The Ghat, therefore, was christened as the Judges Ghat. Interestingly, it is also referred to as the Gwalior Ghat, perhaps because of its proximity to the Gwalior Monument that is located a few paces away from the Ghat.Gwalior Monument, also known as Ellenborough’s Folly, or, The Pepperpot, is an octagonal cenotaph about 60 feet high, crowned with a bronze dome. It was erected in 1847 by Lord Ellenborough, the Governor-General of India, as a memorial to the officers and men who fell during the Gwalior War in 1843.It was designed by Colonel H Goodwyn of the Bengal Engineers and constructed by Jessop and Company. The base is a single storied white marble structure with a spiral staircase leading to a marble cenotaph on the upper floor from the inside. The top of the monument is built like a Mughal ‘chhatri’ or umbrella supported by 8 bronze pillars.The dome of the cenotaph is crowned with a bronze dome cast from guns captured from the Marathas during the Gwalior War. One can enjoy the majestic Hooghly River seen along with the full view of the Howrah Bridge as well as the Vidyasagar Setu from the Gwalior Monument.

This ghat is used mainly for our Hindu religious purposes like Ghat kaaj (this is actually some work done after death in Hinduism which is to be done beside the river Ganges.), our Durga Pratima Bishorjon (Emersion of idols).. etc.. Facilities for changing clothes specially for women and bathroom is there.... This Ghat is neat and clean compared to other Ghats in that locality... Communication with the city is good.. There is very limited bus service but parking is free..
Well place and weather pleasent

Beautiful place to visit.Trust me you will feel relaxed.
Not that clean water but the stairs towards the river is newly constructed and clean
Very nice place. Neat&clean, sufficient sitting arrangement but the snacks stalls are not up to the mark and not hygienic. Local authority should look-after this.

A historic monument situated on the eastern bank of Ganges river (Hoogly) near judges ghat. It was built in 1847. The monument was built in memory of died British officials and soldiers who died fighting Maratha soldiers in late 1843 before The monument was conceptualized by British Governor General Lord Allenborough and Engineer Colonel H. Godwin in 1847. This beautiful memoir is an example of amalgamation of Islamic architecture and Europian style. It has two floors. Stairs are available to reach second floor but remain closed for visitors.

Gwalior ghat is situated opposite of Prinsep ghat. Its open 9 am and close 9:30 pm. You can go there by bus and cab.. You can saw there many taxi they will force to go. But you will not go there. They will charge you high price you have to bargain. You can book ola or uber. Evening is the best time to go there.
Beautiful place to walk in. Cool and pleasant.
Awesom
Observing Durga Idol immersion here. The Ghat is smaller than Babu Ghat, but convenient to see immersion process. Two staircases are there from left and right sides.
It is an awesome place..........
Ok
Perfect ghat for having a dip into holy Ganges specially during high tide time.. one thing I like to add that tourist must beware of the pandits at the ghat and must finalize rate for any spitlritual offering before proceeding...
Used mostly for cremation related rituals. Not a clean place. Other than views of the river, which can be had from several other ghats upshore, not much to offer to a tourist.
You ll appreciate the cleanness cool ambience . Covered with tree.. Walkers and lovers place.
Near princep ghat , small Ganges ghat to immersion
Holy Ganga ji coming from Gangotri , the feeling is just awesome , beautiful sunset view , easy to park , ice cream walas and lots of street food to relish
Nice ghat for spending time because u can easily sit and spend your time or u can book your pwn ⛵ to row around!!!

Good for mrng walk & evng walk
Nice
Nice view of the Ganges near the largest wholesale flower market in India.
Good views
One of the best maintained ghat on Strand Road. Caution - anyone wishes to perform Shradh or Ghat kamano Avoid pundits available on the Ghat, who are from neighbouring states, have formed a syndicate and fleece the families who come here to perform rituals. BabooGhat, half a kilometre ahead, pundits though from the same state are relatively better.
Best place for travel
Gwalior Ghat is Clean Ghat..... Nice view

Ambiance of the place is good. But the place is not clean.
