Sona Tori is not just a regular restaurant that we visit every another day in our regular life. The esteemed presence of Chef Bhaskar Dasgupta had actually increased its value at its peak. It is basically a place full of bangaliana history spiced with Zamindari Culture and essence. The restaurant has its own history and stories. Stories that actually helped us to rethink the importance of traditional bengali foods and its uniqueness.Just for your information every single corner and the portion of this esteemed place has its own history and we loved the most is the lotus lake or Padda pukur history. To know the History, we request you all to visit this hidden treasure at least once and you will start visiting again and again. We had:1. Chicken cutlet2. Bhuna Mangsho (Mutton)3. Basanti PolaoWe preferred having specified dishes rather than having Thali. Cus the thali is huge and we were in lil hurry. So, we have decided to visit again in the weekend to have the Maha Bhoj Thali.Ratings:Food: 5/5Ambience: 5/5Services: 5/5The rest is in the pictures. Do let us know in the comments.

I did not enjoy the thali first of all. 2nd ambience was also very gloomy and dark. 3rd stuffs were also not very friendly. There was nothing special in the thali except the dried fish fried and chicken malai tikka which they served as starter. Chicken curry was not fresh either.Thali wasnt worth the price.

**This restuarant assembles different tastes of Bengali cuisine.**Ambience- Proper Zamindari touch gives an outstanding look to its interior. The sitting arrangement at the fine dining are is absolutely gorgeous. They have 3 PDRs (Private Dining Rooms) which is used for private group parties. One is the open PDR where visitors can use for smoking. Rests are the closed PDRs which are designed in a theme of dining halls of a royal palace. I am so attracted with this place.**Food- I opted for their ILISH UTSOV menu which is available from 15th August to 14th September. In this course they serve different types of items of hilsa fish.•From ILISH UTSOV I ordered for-°°Ilish Macher Tikki- This is made with mainly boneless hilsa fish, smashed with onion, green chilli & other spices. It is served with onion salad & kasundi or mustard sauce.°°Podda Nadir Majhider Ilish- This delicacy is a typical Bangladeshi cuisine which is observed among the fishermen of Bangladesh. Firstly, the big piece of hilsa is sauted into oil. Then cooked in a curry which is flavoured with onion, garlic, ginger, tomato & seasoned with a special masala. This is absolutely droolworthy!°°Sonar Tori Ilish Platter- This jumbo thali includes-^Gobindobhog Bhaat^Macher Tel^Ilish Bhaja^Ilish Macher Tikki^Pui Diyae Ilisher Matha^Sorse Ilish^Bhapa Sandesh (This baked sandesh has a prominent flavour of gondhoraj lemon)•I also took some dishes from their A-La-Carte Menu-°°Mutton Keema Chop- Minced mutton balls are dipped into egg batter, then coated with bread crumbs & finally deep fried into oil. Amazing.°°Vetki Fish Fry- Fresh vetki fish fillet seanoned with kasundi/ mustard sauce. This is perfect for start your meal.°°Daaber Icecream- It tastes like a real tender coconut. Simple yet beautiful texture! I am blown!**Staffs Behaviour- Staffs were courteous & they always ware mask, gloves, head caps which is impressive.**Come & enjoy!

The ambience was good. The food quality was average. However, faced some challenges. First, opted to sit at balcony in the open air. But that place was not clean. Therefore changed the plan and sat inside. Secondly, planned to order beer, but there was none available, though the menu suggested a numbers of them. Then moved to non-alcoholic beverages. To my surprise most of the items were not available either like ginger ale, tonic water or red bull. Then I was told only fresh lime soda is available from that entire page of that menucard and I had no other choice than to accept that. Lastly, some waiters were wearing the mask wrongly leaving their nose outside, which is not a good practice during current pandemic.

Not impressed. Plates, bowl, food everything had a telchite gondho in it, specially in mochar polao and luchi. We ordered ghoti chicken kebab which is an average chicken tikka kebab served in a ghoti. Pur bhora bhetki was fine. Mangsher bhuna had four pieces of mutton with lots of bones and tough meat. Chittol macher muthya was not fresh. Bill was Rs. 2860 for three people.

4th floor B block of city centre 1 Salt Lake houses this wonderful restaurant. You would appreciate the pains they have taken to make up the vibe. Cutlery, crockery, even the water pot are all of bell metal. Lively decor with ornate furnishing, servers dressed in traditional attire, they all add up to it. And then the food! Authentic bengali food! We ordered the unlimited veg thali and it was truly unlimited in quantity and limitless in variety and taste. Special mention of the fish bora, gondhoraj chicken starter, aam shorbot, and I can go on and on as the other items are no less good. The hospitality of servers is the crowning glory. Highly recommended, especially if you are in city centre 1 during meals time!

Visited today as the COVID-19 lockdowns are getting relaxed. Food is alright. However, you should visit only if you’re comfortable sitting close to other tables because they aren’t leaving tables and it’s a packed sitting arrangement. I visited at peak lunch hour. It’s unlimited thali but they charge for extra helpings of mutton and prawns for the mutton/prawn thalis, not sure why. I would rate the food 3/5 and the experience 2/5.

A well known authentic bengali restaurant serving the mouth watering delicacies and the presentation is just WOW!! You couldnt restrict yourself to take picture of the food served, the main part of any food is appearance, it has to be first taste by the eyes and then the taste buds, and the food served at Sonar Tori exactly does that.. Ambience of the restaurant is like traditional bengali rajbari style, the staffs are friendly and efficient, overall a great experience...

Chef Bhaskar has indulged himself in research and reviving in bringing back the lost dishes that we use to hear from our ancestors. A must try if you’re a Bengali foodie lover. The décor and ambiance will take you back decades. The staff is great and their attention to detail is well noted.

Located in city centre it might be a bit difficult to find the place. It is on 4th floor of block B. You need to take the stair case beside kfc to reach the Restraunt. Since it was during the Puja’s we had to wait for an hour before we could get a table also the fact that we were a group of 8 made the waiting longer. But even the waiting area is nice and had 2 vintage sofa sets . The service is not the best as when we got the table they took 30 mins to serve us water. The food was good special mention for bhetki paturi which was the best . We did not go for the buffet which will cost you 1575 plus tax. For pujas they had a shortened food menu anyways. We ended up with 9700 bill for 8 which is reasonable.

We wanted to have some authentic bengali food and also since this was listed in Zomato gold we thought to try it. I had a good experience with them before. It started well. We decided to go ahead with the thali. Welcome drinks and the starters were good. It was from here the problem started. Once we were done with starters they took ages to come back with the main thali. We waited for around half an hour. I had actually fallen asleep as I had a long night the day before. I woke up when then came with the food, I had lost my appetite. The food was served well, nicely presented. However the food didnt taste authentic.1. Pulao - It was no where near the Bengali pulao.2. Sorse pomfret - The mustard gravy preparation was good. Buy the fish wasnt good, felt tasteless.3. Mutton - Again tasteless and chewy. I expected it to be softer.4. Alur dum - The kitchen probably had done some cost cutting with the onions. Base gravy was mostly tomato. On the positive side: luchi, cholar dal, dessert including chutney, payesh and sondesh.I also had to wait for finger bowl, it came only after I had to wash my hands in the washroom!Last but not the least they refused to accept Zomato gold offer citing that the thali was a promotional offer.1. No where in Zomato or in the restaurant menu or anywhere it was mentioned that this is promotional.2. This was my second visit and my friends had also visited this place. From the very first day and always till my last visit thali was part of their menu. It definitely doesnt qualify as a promotional offer. The price wasnt worth the experience we had.

This is Restaurant chain of Neotia Hospitality and Management...so you can guess when business houses comes to food business they dont want to serve you mouth-watering food but they actually found another way to loot you...They just want profit and dont care about your experience. A Bengali name with touches of Bengali culture in the ambience does not mean you will be served the best of Bengali Cuisine. My recommendation: AVOID.You have better options.
