It was my college for 4 years. This campus is so lively and beautiful. Huge campus with large no. Of departments and streams. Beside education friends chat in canteens, green zone or gachtola. Events like teachers day, rangotsav, science day, birthdays of scientists, reunions are celebrated whole heartedly. The buildings are ancient and antique. Few years back Technology field after passing 12 started here. Some streams are taught here among 8 streams of technology mainly applied physics , applied chemistry and radio physics departments. Reunion is one of the most anticipated events which in our department was celebrated once in 3 year. Irrespective of Senior junior teachers students engage in different activities, performances ,and successfully coordinate the 2 day Reunion. National seminars are organized and People interact with each other. Btech courses are of 4 years others are of 3 years . Teachers of individual departments are the master of the subjects and they try the most to deliver the information to the students.

Departments of pure sciences like Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science etc. and Academic Staff College of the University of Calcutta are located in this heritage campus on Acharya Prafulla Chandra Bose Road near Rajabazar. Very much crowed area..

Went there for an exam. Very bad and unprofessional behaviour of the planning committee and teachers. The place is nice but was truly dissappointed with the way the university is ran by its people. They take nothing seriously. Even the announcement of results were delayed by 2 hours. And they couldnt even declare the results online. Had to go there again the next day and wait for two hours. Unnecessary school rules and regulations were enforced that most of the universities get rid of because those who come to study in a university are not children anymore.

In this campus you will find nice buildings with splendid architecture and well maintained gardens with important departments such as Biophysics Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Psychology, Physiology, Chemistry etc. Academic and research activities are carried out here.

The Court of Directors of the East India Company sent a despatch in July, 1854 to the Governor-General of India in Council, suggesting the establishment of the Universities of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay.In pursuance of that despatch, the University of Calcutta was founded on JANUARY 24, 1857.The University adopted in the first instance, the pattern of the University of London and gradually introduced modifications in its constitutionIn 1934, Syamaprasad Mookerjee became the Vice-Chancelor. At the age of 33, he became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University. During Syamaprasad’s tenure the University opened the Teachers’ Training Department in 1935 and the Asutosh Museum of Indian Art in 1937.In 1937, Rabindranath was requested to compose a song which was to be adopted as the University song.
