This was exactly what we were looking for during our stay in Salt Lake. Its on a beautiful, wide street - green and quiet and perfect for late evening strolls. Quintessentially Salt Lake, really. And inside, everythings just as lovely - big balconies in the living room, the dining room and the bedrooms - overlooking the street and trees, a cool, spacious bedroom (we got the one with the large balcony) and a clean and big kitchen if you feel like making your own tea etc - cook too, if the fancy strikes you. It didnt us. Its basically a lovely, large home - the living room is perfect for lounging the day away or doing some reading, the wifi is great, there are old editions of some wonderful classics, and overall, the feeling you can is of life slowing down a bit - like youve stepped away from the race just to reset some. The owners are incredibly accommodating and kind - they paid attention to exactly the kind of dietary restriction we had without us even having to ask and made us feel very welcome.Im definitely going back for more, and recommend this place to anyone looking to spend some time in Salt Lake.

My first trip to Kolkata for a holiday. As a devotee of Kali, wanted to see the Kali temples in Kolkata and outside. Loved Boier Baari! My uncle runs a bookshop in Madurai and I chose this place because of the books and the reviews. Loved the peace and quiet and the Bengali food. The owner helped me with many tips...I wanted to see the Kali temple associated with the Portugese devotee Anthony Phiringee. It is such as small shrine, I would not have been able to find it myself. They also told me about the Chinese kali temple which i didnt know about. Was happy to visit this unique temple.Im scared of dogs but their big dog Raja is just lovely.

Our stay at Boi Bari was absolutely mindblowing. From day one, we fell in love with this place full of books. The cleanliness of this place is totally at a different level. Supriya is meticulous about all minute details, and we felt at home from day one. She is also a great cook, so do not miss the breakfast :) The friendly dog Raja only adds up to the homely vibes that this place offers. Spacious and neatly cleaned rooms, and every room gets ample sunlight. The terrace is a lovely place to relax. If you can synchronize nicely, then you can also see Raja playing with a ball :) Overall it was more than our expectations, and I would wholeheartedly recommend this place for everyone.

The place is clean and safe to stay. The food was home made and very tasty. The rooms were quite clean. There is issue with privacy of guest at times since the main entrance ane room entrance is common for house owners as well as guest.

The property is located at green and tidy neighborhood with very less traffic. The house has a very positive vibe, space is kept clean & tidy, all things are just right at its place and well put together , the paintings, furnitures and the colors. While the house rules may overwhelm you, the host is very warm and helped us with things in whatever way possible. She spent time with us over a very tasty Bengali breakfast talking about Bengali cultural, Kolkata in general and gave us her recommendations on shopping and other things. Overall had a very pleasant stay.

We loved the greenery and the lovely food and conversations. Best part was Raja, and his cuddles. The roof is an added bonus and we spent a nice time there, drinking hot chocolate and eating tarts & oranges. You must stay here. I want to come back soon

I had to be in Kolkata between February 18 to 22, 2021 to attend a family marriage. For logistics convenience, I was looking for a decent accommodation in Salt Lake area to stay all the 4 nights. Someone mentioned about a place called “Boi-er-baari” on which I could find quite a few good reviews in different travel & tourism sites. I could manage to get the contact number and spoke to the owner, Mrs. Chatterjee and booked a room for me.Boi-er-baari is a wonderful homestay – picture perfect. Basically, an old 3 storeyed bungalow situated in a corner plot at a peaceful residential part of Salt Lake in Kolkata, has been converted to a cosy homestay. The family of the owner continue to occupy part of the ground floor and the 1st floor where one room each has been dedicated as guest room and 2nd floor have 3 guest rooms. However, since the outbreak of the pandemic only the 2nd floor rooms are being offered to guests.I was lucky to get an airy 2nd floor room with a beautiful balcony overseeing the garden on the ground floor and the road in front. All the facilities provided are just what is expected from a well-managed homestay and for me it was like a homecoming after 40 years. The family takes complete care of the guests. I met another guest from Chennai who has been staying there for the 3rd time and spoke highly about everything including the dinner. Since I was attending a marriage ceremony, I was only having breakfast there and I must admit it was sumptuous. The most noteworthy aspect of this Boi-er-baari is of course the Boi i.e. books. It has a huge collection of English and Bengali Books nicely displayed all around. I haven’t seen in my life such artistic wall décor with framed photographs of book covers or famous paintings from popular books. I am an avid book lover and all the four mornings I spent there I was hooked into one or other books taken from the shelves.I sincerely recommend this place for those who are tired of staying in hotels which are lifeless and artificial even if they are star rated. If someone wants to enjoy staying in a homelike accommodation and enjoy reading books, there is no better place than Boi-er-baari. One has to stay here for at least 2 nights to enjoy a memorable lifetime experience.

Apart from the luxurious space and warm hospitality, what really strikes out in Boi-er-Baari is the essence of bengali culture that it upholds. A beautiful concoction of homemade food, array of books and beautiful paintings in every corner of the house makes your stay totally worth it. After a hectic day of work, when you return to this place, home, sweet home is all it reminds you of.

We came to this place on feb 13 and were welcomed warmly by out host Supriya . The place we stayed was spacious and well lit with natural light seeping through the windows and balcony. In the main sitting area was beautiful setting with sofa chairs table . The walls of the sitting area were adorned with beautiful paintings/ photographs of the famous paintings. The house itself is located in a residential place where there are trees and whole area is well maintained. The house itself had spacious bedrooms with air conditioning and other necessities. After the overall tiring day of the function we were attending, it was relaxing to come back home to a place we have some peaceful sleep and rest. Also while we were staying the breakfast provided was on the house , prepared by the host herself which was delicious.Everyone must definitely stay here when they are visiting kolkota.

I did a last-minute reservation here in Sept 2020 because the company I was on assignment for, Eco Crystal run by a Mr Kaustav Bhattacharyya, put me up in a sleazy, couple-friendly hotel where I heard voices in the corridor and knocking on my door all night. I found this place online as I barely slept that night and moved early in the morning before their mentioned check-in times. But the manager (who runs the place) let me check in early, and gave me a fresh hot breakfast. I took a good hot bath and could leave for work somewhat refreshed despite getting no sleep the night before.I stayed two nights here, and loved how roomy it was. I would sit in the living room once I got back from work, and work on my laptop. The view in Salt Lake is green and calming, and the ventilation in the place is pretty good despite the humid September weather. This is what I liked best about the place, the natural light and the ample space that you do not get in budget hotels. The owner Supriya, who also manages the place, was a reassuring presence after my horror night in the cheap hotel booked by my office. I appreciate her making me feel comfortable. Her family live downstairs and they even have a dog.But the hotel premises are completely private. Id recommend it to everyone. Food is available on order if you place orders in advance. I recommend it. It is tasty simple food

Boi-er Baari is an abode of calmness and serenity which makes it an excellent place to work, read or just spend a vacation leisurely. The rooms here have plenty of natural light, air and lots of space which is in contrast to the stuffiness and claustrophobic environment of hotel rooms. You can stay assured about cleanliness of the place as it is spick and span and has a pleasant décor. The delicious and healthy Bengali meals served here made my stay super comfortable without having to worry about food. Adding to all this, the warm and friendly Chattopadhyaya family as hosts make it a home away from home.

I booked this B&B because it was close to my Sector V office, where I had to report for a work appraisal. But I loved it so much that I ended up staying a day extra just to see a bit more of the city. The guest floor is completely separate and independent, so I had all the privacy I needed. The bungalow is beautifully decorated with paintings. I had heard a lot about the detective Feluda and took a room themed after Feluda. Lovely decor and very spacious and clean. The hostess Supriya lives a floor below with her family and gave me a lovely introduction to Bengali culture. The breakfast is free and really yum. I also recommend ordering their home-cooked meals, great intro to Bengali food. The price is below Rs 200, at least for me as a vegetarian.Special word for Raja, the pet Labrador. Just adorable. I think I stayed for Raja alone

I stayed at the Boi-er Baari with my daughter. Its been home away from indeed! So, be careful that its not a hotel! The most significant advantages are peaceful location, security, size of the property, water & power supplies, kitchen, home made food at a reasonable price (if you dont wish to cook yourself), huge roof top (we were allowed use even for drying clothes) and of course a very caring host and her team.If you are looking forward to home made English Breakfast and really authentic Bengali lunch and dinner just opt for it. I share photographs of few food items served as, I believe, just like me, many would love to have homemade ones.I recommend it especially, for longer stay, for families and working or young-adult ladies and also for those who dont like to have spicy restaurant food. Finally I gratefully acknowledge the hospitality of Boi-er Baari in an unprecedented tough time during the pandemic.Take care!

Boi er Bari provides the ideal setting foran aspiring author or any traveller out to explore the cultural milieu of Kolkata, Indias literary city. A room without books is like a body without a soul says Cicero - here, in this alcove in Salt Lake, one finds the soul of reading everywhere. Im quite intrigued by the concept and the House of Books does not disappoint. Whether you are looking for a retreat where you can your next novel or a starting point for your love affair with Kolkatas literary scene, Id strongly recommend a stay here. Add to that the fantastic and very well-informed hosts who will show you around the city and engage in some delightful Bengali addas. Do check out the fascinating collection of books and paintings.

My guests from Austria stayed one week at this apartment, and were very happy there. They were in Calcutta on a hectic schedule, and it was very relaxing for them to return every day to a welcoming home in a quiet, residential neighbourhood. The extra possibilities of ordering meals was a bonus, and the caretaker was very helpful and considerate.

Just had a brief stay at this unique bed & breakfast in Kolkata. Housed in a stunning yellow building on a quiet street corner in Salt Lake, the Chattopadhyays who live on the floor below & look after you with classic Bengali hospitality (& food) have curated the rooms with great attention to detail.A big, clean & pleasant place its high point is of course the great collection of eclectic books as well the sketches on the walls many if them by Satyajit Ray. Only wish we had more time to read some of the books on the shelves.

I had a very comfortable stay at Supriyas home. The home itself is very very tastefully designed. The thought and love thats gone in to putting it together is apparent. Its very well lit with plenty of cross ventilation. I wish i had stayed a few more days so that i had time to read their books, lounging on their inviting living room furniture. Am definitely going back again! The food was delicious too!! Authentic, homemade Bengali cuisine. I got the recipes from Supriya and intend to try once I get home.Overall a most pleasant stay, with loads of simulating conversation with Supriya, her husband and daughter Sohini (whos a brilliant journalist and author).

Lovely decorated, neat and clean home stay/ Airbnb. The home cooked food & coffee are very nice, but needs to be pre-ordered. House of Books situated outside the hectic and crowded downtown of Kolkata in the way more doktertest neighborhood Salt Lake. In Cade you like dogs, they have a dog, but he‘s not necessarily roaming free around, there is also a washing Maschine available, only there is a lack of privacy (which is not uncommon in India) - and you need to wash your plates and utensil.

At first it never seemed like a hotel or anything like that. It always seemed like this was my home. I got a taste of home cooking here too, I read books sitting alone and everyone behaves like a very close person. I want to stay in the library again whenever I get a chance.
