This is a Government Emporium which sells high end quality art peices, etc., sourced from all over the country. There are items made of brass, wood, marble, inlay work, terracotta, white shola wood, paintings etc. You find small items to even antique furniture. The staff is very supportive and courteous. The place is centrally located in Esplanade. However the place is in urgent need of renovations and they should improve the sign board etc.
Its a wonderful experience to visit the Emporium. It shows how fascinating the Bengal and Indian handicrafts are.
This place is a place with great ambience and a lot of works of cottage industry! There are works of wood, ivory ,stone, and and west Bengal, this place has a fancy collection of carpets! It also sells sandal wood , rudraksha ! The place has nice ambience ! The staffs are good ! It has a good collection also !
A great collection of arts and crafts from all over India. All genuine as it is run by the government. Usually you will find different things at different times depending on the artisans. Highly recommended.
An exhibition of artifacts. Very good collection for home decor items. But i daresay the collection was much enormous and varied till a couple of years back. Nevertheless a pleasure to visit, though a tad expensive.
This emporium is on the Chittaranjan Avenue beside metro cinema Kolkata. Many handmade items made by rural India are available there.
It is a perfect mini India. Must visit place for foreigners looking for Indian souvenir and Indians going to abroad and want to buy gifts for their friends in abroad.
Helpful staff. Fun to look around, especially the jewellery! Wish I had room for some of the art and furniture.Sadly, there is Limited selection, especially compared to the one in Delhi.Dreary ambience. It has gone downhill. If youre in the neighborhood, have a look, but its not worth making a special trip.
The store has been located at the junction of S.N.Banerjee Road and J.L.Nehru for many years. Earlier it was a landmark on its own, though unfortunately these days, street vendors have crowded the exterior to the extent that its hardly visible from the road. It is very well accessible though doesnt have parking of its own. I was a fan of the earlier avatar. Nowadays, the decor, the merchandise, the general ambience of the place seem to be a pale shadow of the might and glory of CCIE Kolkata in 90s when my friends and i would visit atleast once every month.
Its just outstanding, and there stuff was soo down-to-earth.. ☺️
Huge selection of indian handicrafts at reasonable prices, with no haggling and the chance to look and explore without being bothered
Very costly items displayed
This showroom is authorized central government of India. Selling very good handicraft products.
Huge collection of handycrafts. They provides clothing also.. All are unique..
Best hand crafted items collection. A little over priced, maybe, due to location etc...
A recent visit has left me completely despondent about this place, where I could always go for quality handicrafts and well chosen goods. Under the excuse of renovations (obviously not much has been done after tearing half of the shop apart), there are piles of bamboo, broken furniture, filth in all parts of the store.Everything is covered with a thick layer of dust, which is obviously of many weeks duration. The salespeople are surly and nonchalant. The whole experience left me aghast.
This place sells handicraft items from across India at an affordable price. There is something for anyone who visits this shop.
It has some exquisite pieces.only a trained eye will be able to discern the quality of items sold there.most ppl dont even know it exists.the metal statutes etc are beautifully crafted not the rough types available in the open market.
I visited there more than once. There are lots of varieties of handcrafts starting from showpieces made up of brass , clay , bronze , sandal woods or other kinds of woods are sold here. Really like the place.
Relaxed atmosphere, nice design and fixed prices for the art and craft items.
It is a treasure trove of hand crafted artifacts. I did not like it as it is very badly displayed, dark at places, with mushy smell. A govt. run organization so they are least bothered to sell. you have to explore on your own.
Place has variety of things one could look for. . If it was not for traffic reaching there could be little less time consuming
Poor service
The art pieces sold here are unique. Staff members works even in all day long power failure situation in unbearable scortching summer day.
The officials did not have a secure place to keep bags, etc; and did not allow bags inside. So when I asked if I could keep the bag inside somewhere, they didnt allow. They behaviour was very unprofessional, practically they did not care for the customers comfort. All this and I could see foreigners, a couple of others with their bags and ladies with their shoulder bags inside the emporium. I travelled for 1.5 hours to see the majesty of the emporium, and I am returning with nothing. Very bad experience
The place looks run down and decript. But if you are a handicrafts and handloom lover like me, there are lots of treasures to discover here. They stock handmade items from all over India. Great place to buy tid-bits for gifting. I found many items priced under 100 INR. Thats something. They also stock authentic stuff,so no danger of getting robbed or getting less value for money. I hope they just upgrade a little bit,so people visit.
Central Cottage industries Emporium is situated on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Chowringhee. It is actually at the crossing of Jawaharlal Nehru Road & S N Banerjee Road. It is well connected through road & Esplanade metro station is adjacent to it. Different souvenir of different states are available here. The foreign tourists specially like this shop.
Shopping for authentic Indian artefacts and handloom stuff at non-ripoff prices-this is the place to visit.Prices are fixed.Staff behaviour is below par-as per expected lines, this being a Government organisation
Place for original handcrafted things .
Huge amount of handcrafted items. If you like to gift something exquisite, drop in.
Nice n good store....helpful people..
Very good and old antique home decoration shop.
Great collection of authentic Indian handicrafts & handloom products but the showroom along with the staff wear a gloomy look & the items are expensive too.
Awesome collection of traditional handcrafts
The collection of materials though reduced, the counter is unique
Nice place although the price seems to be on the higher scale.
Nice collection. Price is on higher side.
Very good for different craft product selling, reliable price, very gentle behavior to customers
Certain items should have been maintained well and sone others lacked finishing.
Many types of hand work, exclusive things for home decorations can get from here.
Kudos gor the collection, but look and cleanliness of the place scares.
Good place to but handmade products
Good ambience, but more variety required.
Great collection of handloom & handicrafts

A great place to take the time to shop quality and enjoy good advice from the many vendors. We bought saris and stoles as well as tea.Products certified by the Indian Government. Here no bargaining but fixed prices. Its up to you whether you prefer this option or not. We have shopped at New Market also where it is possible to haggle.
Good handicrafts are found in this central government agency in the middle of the city.
