The hopless hotel in kolkata. The staff was not wearing the mask properly neither were they well dressed. No name tag was worn by the staff standing at reception. No basic courtesy and etiquette to entertain customers (Mr Tyeb Hussain)which is extremely important in the hospitality industry. Claim themselves to be a five star hotel but their valet parking service is also exorbitantly priced which is generally unheard that any five star hotel would charge for valet parking.Washroom does not even provide paper napkins.

The most third-class five star I’ve even been to!! The Alfresco restaurant didn’t have basic dishes like veg manchurian, chilli baby corn, chilli channa etc. Ambiance was very poor! We had to call the waiter every time in order to serve dishes. They didn’t provide finger bowls too unless asked. And they charged 600/- Service Tax. Anyways, the food was good (Chinese is better ) and a very quiet place. Good for couples, but visit in the breakfast or lunch time. During night it’s a little shady.

Centrally located , lot of care for hygiene and security, reception staff are always cheerful and ready to help , Two negative for this hotel was Firstly they are showing only 20 channel, it was unbelievable for me , Being a stock mkt trader I need to look into some of business channel. Second there swaping machine it was big irritant. This guy Abhishek bhattacharya took 1 hour to bring this machine after I finish my dinner, He banged my door from 11 PM to 12 in midnight for some 2k bill , Really annoying , this guys also have silk shop and he will try to convince you to buy silk from his shop, this sort of things should be avoided.Rest everything was fine .

While the hotel has all the typical luxury elements of a classic LALIT property, it suffers a bit from the fact that it is located in a very old building thats in the most chaotic part of the old town! A crumbling facade, being locked around on all sides by grimy buildings etc. However the property has done a good job of preserving and celebrating its heritage treasures. Everything from old furniture and architectural elements - from the colonial times when it was the GREAt EASTERN hotel - is beautifully showcased. So do take a tour around the property if you can. A stay at the property is like an encounter with history in Calcutta.

The fruit cake is pretty famous in Kolkata and even though I didnt have it, I have had some great reviews to the people I gave it to.

I got an invitation for coktail and dinner party from Citibank to enjoy a summer afternoon in a cozy 5* dinning room. Its close to Raj Bhavan, Dalhousie. All Citibank customers are sipping to their favourite drinks in the evening to their hearts content. I am occasional drinker but not at home. I had a wish to taste however had to drop the idea because the presence of my family and kids. So, grabbed the starters like hot cake. Needless to say, interiors is jaw dropping beauty and other lounge were equally great. You can feel the grandness seeing from outside. Some lounches are booked by foreign delegates. As it closer to Raj Bhavan, this hotel is Diplomats first choice for the proximity and hospitality. As you know, happy moment doesnt last long, after consuming the favourite dishes, booked the rental cab and way back to home. Thanks to Ctibank to make that evening a one of gala evening in my life.Disclaimer: Dont be Citibank customer to get an invitation for Cocktail dinner party, please use your own prejudice. Thanks

Visited their restaurant earlier this week for a birthday lunch and we were thoroughly disappointed ☹️The hotel feels really old and run down with plaster peeling from the walls and the restaurant area feels dull and uninspiring. Guess its used mainly for corporate events these days.We had one mushroom and one minced mutton cutlet for starters and chicken biryani and Betki fillet for main course. The food was average in taste and there were a few misses in terms of the preparation but the service decent.Definitely not worth the price u pay here so pls dont waste your time and money. There are tons of better and newer options to pick across the city.

In this pandemic I had a lovely stay at lalit Great Eastern kolkata . Lunch, breakfast and dinner food was excellent. One of the best in Kolkata. The hotel was well sanitized and clean. The room was spacious with everything that I needed. The hotel is located in one of the best areas in kolkata. My dad was admitted in the Apollo hospital and it wasnt stressful traveling since I had a cab provided by the hotel. Mr. Dipanjan Roy, Manager Liaison of the hotel was very helpful and resourceful , he even happened to know the CEO of Apollo hospital and helped me alot with my hospital work. He constantly had a check on my well being. The staff are very friendly and helpful . . Couldnt complain about any service of this hotel. They even got me medicine from a local store without me having to get out of my room. This is the kind of service that will always pull me to this hotel. Keep up the good work.

Unfortunately due to the pandemic and travel restrictions we had to postpone our wedding plans. Hence as per the agreement we asked for a fair ramification. ....to which the sales team replied after a few follow ups .....that the total amount is forfeited. However the reason for forfeiture not cited. Wondering that how in such extraordinary times ...the hotel is devoid of empathy ....As no sane person will postpone their childs wedding on purpose ...amazed at the standard of lalit ....making tall claims ....only the brand name is helping them to survive....else if they wsnt to keep up with the race....they need to put up theur sleeves .....

The hotel provides a good 5-star service at a reasonable price. The problem is the series of local taxes that one has to pay for luxury in West Bengal. Soon one realises that eating and drinking outside the hotel in non-5-star establishments is much much cheaper. The hotel is surrounded by such establishments. As a result the hotel bar and restaurants are usually empty. The local luxury taxes have killed many high end businesses in West Bengal, and it is a surprise that 5-star establishments exist in Kolkata!

The overall experience was very mediocre. The rooms are not well-equiped with basic toiletries like dental kid and shampoo. The worst of all was the in-room dining experience. Had ordered a sphagetti and veg burger, both of them were tasteless and not cooked properly. To make things worse, we were charged wrongly for the non-veg items. During the checkout, on confronting the hotel staff, they made us wait 45 mins without any solution. The only excuse they had was that in-room dining charges are higher but they werent able to show any menu card which mentioned that. Not at all worth the price. Would never recommend it to any one.

The great Eastern hotel probably the first ever luxury hotel in Asia made in british Era around 1865. Later Lalit Group of hotels took it over from the Government of India and rebuild it in a modern way having ideology of British era and somewhat similar to the buildings which made in that time Period. The hotel looking very beautiful and attractive from out side and even more beautiful inside. In terms of service the Lalit group of hotels doing an excellent job all over its locations in india. However the stay was not like that which I personally experienced in The Lalit Delhi and Jaipur, may be to keep it like british era building is reason behind this but after all rooms are quite comfortable and and almost every room comes with a view. The Breakfast provided by the hotel was just too awesome, the breakfast spread was really very large from North Indian to South Indian to continental and American almost all the breakfast options available at The Lalit Great Eastern Kolkata. Heritage Building opp Raj Bhaban The Great Eastern Hotel (officially The LaLiT Great Eastern Kolkata) is a colonial era hotel established in 1840 or 1841; at a time when Calcutta, the seat of the East India Company, was the most important city in India. Referred to as the Jewel of the East in its heyday, Great Eastern Hotel hosted several notable persons visiting the city. After Indias independence in 1947, the hotel continued its business but went into decline during the Naxalite era of West Bengal; later the state government took over the management. In 2005 it was sold to a private company and was reopened in November 2013 after an extensive renovation.

The chicken tikka bun was extremely spicy with very less amount of chicken and not cooked properly. The Mutton keema bun had no good pieces, very spicy, less pieces. The muffins were not even baked properly.Extremely disappointed by your food.
