Got arrested for talking over phone while crossing roads. Treating me very well. Cells are spacious and clean. Food is okay, but rice for 3 times is bit boring. Handcuff is a bit corroded but its okay, it does the right job. The officers are friendly. Overall it is a nice experience.

I have been trying continuously for getting in touch with the Lalbazar Police Headquarters at the homicide department in Kolkata but due to unavailability of public transportation I could not go to Lalbazar Police Headquarters after reporting at the Local Police Station at Gariahat Kolkata. They informed that I can ask for help for public transportation at a helpline number but with no effect. I am asking for apologies due to unavailability of public transportation for officially going to homicide department at the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar Kolkata. Should consider that Doctors are usually not habitual violators of the law of the land. On most of the occasions they are in a hurry to reach to the patients in time and may in this way unknowingly or very rarely violate signals or keep vehicles at no-parking areas, definitely by not obstructing the traffic or pedestrian passages. Some of their patients belongs to the police force too. Will you accept a doctor reaching his patients in need late, think over it again. By slamming traffic violation charges against the doctors like any other people will only increase their agonies and will make them repulsive to attend their cases as fast as possible to save vital time. Doctors need a sympathetic and practical approach from your end. You should remember, doctors, even when merrymaking or with their families are preoccupied with their primary responsibility of patient care, like you on call for 24-hrs-a day and should be spared of unless committing a significant offence. More attention should be paid to nab helmetless and reckless ones instead of the soft targets like the doctors. Thank you for the patient reading.

The history of the present structure of policing in Kolkata goes back to the colonial times, when the city was known as Calcutta, and was a fledging settlement of the British East India Company. Kolkata (Calcutta) is regarded to have been founded by an English Merchant Job Charnock, but this has no authentic corroboration. Job Charnock, who was the key functionary of the East India Company, had anchored his boat Maddapollam at a village called Sutanuti on the eastern banks of the river Hooghly, in 1690 A.D. East India Co. then bought three villages Sutanuti, Kalikata and Gobindapur from local landlord Sabarna Roy Chowdhury. This formed the nucleus of a fortified military settlement which in 1696 A.D. (3 years after Charnocks death) became a prime location for the East India Companys operations in Bengal.Policing in Calcuttas earliest days was confined to the Mughal administration and their local representatives. Bengal was still technically a part of the Mughal Empire although the Nawabs of Bengal, based in Murshidabad, in North Bengal, were its virtual rulers. The Watch and Ward functions were entrusted to a Kotwal or town prefect who had 45 peons under him, armed with traditional weapons like staves and spears, to deal with miscreants. In 1720, the East India Company formally appointed an officer to be in charge of civil and criminal administration. He was assisted by an Indian functionary commonly known as black deputy or black zamindar. Under him were three naib-dewans, one of whom was in charge of the police. The settlement was divided into thanas (Police stations) under thanadars who had in turn contingents of naiks and paiks. A small contingent of river police was also formed.
